  • A film showing some of the changes that have happened in recent years to parts of Kirkintilloch/Lenzie.
For the last 10 years at least, housing developments have spread throughout the town from the old hospital sites to former brown field sites and increased the expanse of the town. The entrances and exits to the town have changed too in the recent years with a new road linking the town centre at Townhead with The M80 motorway. Its a film to promote discussion as well as give those who've left the town decades ago to see their old homes and haunts as they are today.
The footage was created on a cold Sunday in January 2023 in between showers. All VLOS CAA regs were adhered to and as a drone operator I have my required certification to fly this and other UAV devices. The device used was a DJI mini 3 Pro drone (under 250g).
As always comments and discussion very welcome.
I much apologise for the early part of the video as the footage could be better focused. Im using a new drone and like all things new, im still learning how to use the features (including auto focus). This will be ironed out before the next release on my channel though.
Music for this video has been provided by the very talented Beatland. A Glasgow based electro act. I have linked at the end of the video to a video on the Beatland channel so you can sample even more of their work and hopefully subscribe both to my channel and beatlands channel.
    Once again,
Thanks for watching and if you like what you see, give me a thumbs up to ensure more of this content is highlighted on CZcams.

Great video. We moved to Kirk in 1960/61 with the overspill when our tenement building in Glasgow was being knocked down. I remember when Back o'Loch was a halt. I think that you got the wrong position in your movie. It was situated next to Waterside Road, just up from Townhead. I can remember seeing steam engines there. There was a spur that came off from Lenzie and went through Whitegates - urban legend was that Whitegates got its name from the white gates of the railway crossing - don't know if that's true.
I used to play in the grounds of Woodillee Hospital - that's where the best chestnuts grew.
We moved to 23 Lammermoor road. It was a brand new house then; the last row of houses in Kirk, then it was just countryside. I could look out the kitchen window and see the farmer and his sons ploughing the field - with a horse drawn plough and then sowing the field by hand; where Quarry Drive is now. My father was a welder and made the garden gate. Looking on Google maps street view, it looks like the gate is still there some 50 years later. We left in 1969.

Thanks enjoyed the video, could you leave the street and place names up a little longer, we after 50 years need time to work out where we are, thanks, keep up the good work

I’ll certainly try and find a way in future videos. The editing software I use doesn’t allow for the labels to move with the action meaning that the street name stays in one place while the film has moved on which i feel would make it a wee bit confusing for the viewer but I appreciate the comment and i’ll do what i can to find a solution. Meanwhile if you pause the video at the point later you want to find that may help. thanks for your feedback

I received as a Christmas present 2 years ago a drone in which my intention was to take pictures of Kirkintilloch, to date its still in its box.
Reading the comments below I remember getting the train with my ma and da from Kirkintilloch (eastside) that stopped at Back O Loch, until we could join the main line to Glasgow. And talking of how Kirkie has grown, At the General election in 1983 we covered, in one night, to every home in Kirkintilloch and Lenzie an election address from Margaret Bain. Ah Happy days, Love the vids.

Take that drone out of the box and I promise you wont regret it. Thank you so much for sharing your memories and Im delighted you enjoyed my video. Im still on a learning curve with my drones and I think im getting a bit better at the editing now too.
