  • In this episode, we're joined by special and hilarious guest @Comedianeddieb! We share the most uncomfortable parent-teacher conferences we've ever had... From parents not believing actual camera footage of their child assaulting another kid, to the helicopter parent asking their child's teacher to text her every time her precious angel poops at school.
To end the show, we try the weirdest and grossest snacks students LITERALLY eat at 8:00am every day. This may or may not go well...

The fact that *no one else on the show* got what Eddie was talking about when he was talking about Chick-Fil-A workers and McDonald's/Popeyes students cracked me up. That line had me cackling.

I knew exactly what he meant when he was talking about Chick-fil-A versus Popeyes and McDonald's. Those Chick-fil-A kids are going somewhere. Those other kids may be in same situation for the rest of their lives.

@@kayleegoff141 That's true, but part of growing up and functioning in society is still treating people with kindness and basic respect despite what you have going on. Which isn't to say ignore your trauma or not get treatment, or that it's your fault if you don't have access: it means that you can't take your feelings out on random people for no reason
And just to assure I'm not blaming the kids, I was one of them and I still don't have access to proper therapy. I know what it means to be young and mistreated or abused by everyone around you, but if I didn't change how I was treating people I would have been in an even worse place than I was then. It's not easy and we need to get more resources and support for those kids, but at some point you also need to work on yourself with what you have. It's hard when you have no framework but it's possible

When my oldest daughter was in preschool, age 3.5 she was very quiet at school and non-stop at home, including reading out loud. During the Christmas program she stood on stage with probably 30 other kids and just didn’t even move her lips, just silent. As soon as we got in the van to go home she sang every song of the entire program with gusto!!!! She’s now 24 with a B.A. in creative writing and still quiet in public and nonstop chatter when she comes over to visit.

Why can't these Psychology majors stop pointing fingers and just do their damn job? Most parents work year round, not the eight and a half months a teacher works. Most adults get just two weeks vacation time each year, while a public schoolteacher has the exact same vacation schedule as a six year old. Good grief, they want us to believe that a Holocaust survivor has got nothing on an American public schoolteacher. What is so difficult about this entry level "can someone please start my orange" government job? The taxpayers see to a teachers every need. All a teacher has to do is maintain a pulse and keep their shoelaces tied, if their job requires them to wear shoes, as some teachers in Oregon teach in their barefeet. If the teachers unions demanded that each teacher be assigned a person to wipe their ass or they go out on strike, trust and believe they would get one. Why do American politicians allow teachers union to de facto run our country?

My daughter had a teacher who was absolutely INCREDIBLE. She had this Teacher for 3rd grade and then when she was going into 5th grade she got the same teacher. She flourished with that teacher. I loved her so much. And I gave her gift cards, and she loved doing crafts. So I would get her a craft whenever I found a cool one.She ended up leading a craft group and I was part of. We become friends when she was in 4th grade. And I told her not to be worried my daughter knew and expect special treatment. She didn't know we were friends. And she actually had my daughter excelling in 5th grade. And she was able to even tutor her for her difficult subjects.

It makes me so sad hearing how uninvolved parents are in their child’s education:( I remember parent teacher conference nights and it wouldn’t be that packed . My mom was a single mom with very minimal support working 50 plus hours a week in corporate and running her own business. She always came to my parent teacher conferences and encouraged me to and helped me to do well in school even tho she knew I didn’t really like school that much she was still very much present.

  • @katrinascarlet5637
    @katrinascarlet5637 Před rokem +4

My mom was the stereotypical immigrant parent who only took A's. Like I got an 87 and I cried. Then I had this one teacher, I got straight F's, I was written up EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Literally every day, my mom had to stop coming because her work couldn't keep letting her go to my school at the same time every day. Before that teacher I had never been written up, I had never struggled in school, no teacher had any complaints, the other teacher I had that same year (we had one for math and science, and another teacher for history and English) adored me and was shocked to hear the other hated me so much. The second teacher tried her best to stand up for me.
My mom was super upset with me for all of one week before seeing the pattern and talking to my other teacher to confirm I wasn't just being a brat. After that she went from super attentive, "I'm so sorry, I will make sure she doesn't ever do that again." to "Yeah, yeah, I know she's in trouble, like always. I'll sign the write-up when she gets home." Can you imagine how bad a teacher has to be for a latina "I didn't move to this country and work my butt off for you to not get good grades!" mom to just brush off F's for a whole year?
What I hated most was when she'd give an assignment, she'd change the rules after it was turned in. So even though my answers were correct, they'd be wrong because I, along with half the class, didn't follow the rules that she didn't give us until we turned it in. The teacher retired after my class. I've had amazing teachers, me and my mom just really hated that one.

Oof guidance counselors being there for the kids hit me hard. My GC didn’t understand mental health at all and would send me random motivational speeches on CZcams during the day to “fix” my depression. She told all the staff I had depression when I’ve never been diagnosed with that. I had/have severe anxiety and cPTSD. At one point my senior year I got severely sick and was too weak to leave the house, so my GC convinced the dean I was skipping due to “depression” (which is already messed up) so they drove to my apartment while my mom was at court, she knocked on my door for 10+ minutes insisting I let her in. I did and she made me go to school, wouldn’t leave my apartment until I went with her. I collapsed in the hallway from being so sick and she told me I “looked great” with all the weight I lost and that I needed to be there. They never informed my mother so she came home to me not there and only knew because she asked my girlfriend. The only reason it wasn’t pushed to have consequences was because graduation was months away… I’m pretty sure she’s still at that school 6 years later and I hope she isn’t literally taking kids from their home still 🥲

My daughter is just shy of 2 and has been in daycare since 5 months and even at this young of an age we have had situations where I worried the teacher may not like her and/or I was surprised with a behavior they said she was having at school that seemed out of character. But every time that happens I just tell them that it seems out of character but that I will do what I can to address it if/when she does that thing at home. Any time I've been concerned the teacher is singling out my daughter I simply try to build up the relationship with that teacher so I feel more comfortable with them, and have an open conversation if need be. There is no reason to be hateful toward these underpaid saints who don't just teach out kids but care for them and show them love!

But the pay can't be all that bad when one considers the fact that there are 3.2 million schoolteachers on America's payroll. If the job is as horrific as the teachers unions and the education lobby in Washington say it is the profession would have went the way of the buggy whip and your local blacksmith a long time ago, but that hasn't happened at all has it?

A few times they did show up it was shocking. My dad came to a parent teacher night in highschool and he was one of like ten we saw in the whole school. Most parents didn't show up. Once my school had this parent sit in thing where if a kid was acting up then thier parent could come in and "monitor" them, and two girls called the bluff but their mom's actually showed up and that was a surprise to everyone that their moms actually cared

I try to be involved but not in the way. My son has autism, ADHD, odd. I make it a point to at least have a phone call with every teacher he's going to be with. When we hit the end of every 6 wks I send them all a chocolate bar and a 10$ gift card. I normally do the local grocery store so they can get some beer or wine lol.

My son started Kindergarten this year and it’s been a STRUGGLE! He gets so overwhelmed and it comes out in bad behaviors. The first month or more of school was AWFUL. He started doing a lot better and now he’s acting out again. He’s in therapy. Adhd. These kids that were raised during Covid are having a hard time. My sons grades are great though. It’s stressing me out…

My nephew went to kindergarten. He was smart but wasn't as mature as most of the kids. The school asked if he could redo kindergarten for the next year and his parents agreed. There were 4 others left back with him. He and the other children excelled in the retake of kindergarten. I am happy to say that he became a Mechanical Engineer and is a great dad and husband. Being left back did not affect him negatively at all.

Lol my guidance counselors through orimary school never gave me the time of day when the bus driver was shot and died, when my parents divorced, but when I was 10 Minutes late to school when I had no first period (online PE yall) the counselor cleared her schedule and chewed me out for half an hour.

My son just turned 6 in October. He was eligible for kindergarten this year. At this point, I'm certain putting him in public school would just get him in trouble. He's reading on a 3rd grade level and doing 2nd grade everything else. And he's high strung. That kid has one speed. Go. I know he's a little monster but I got it.

When teaching parochial school I had to remind a nosy obnoxious mother visiting my classroom during a boisterous Christmas party that the kids weren’t afraid of me, even though I was a man, because even they knew that the teachers weren’t allowed to beat them anymore, so if the kids knew that, they why didn’t the parent? Was she perhaps running some internal dialogue reminiscing about the good old days when the nuns used to beat the kids with yardsticks? Fortunately I came to my senses and walked out of the building just prior to spring break when the principal, a nun, started shrieking at me in front of the kids for permitting them to bring their sleds to school after she’d gone on the PA system and told them that everyone should bring their winter clothing the following day so they could all go out back to play in the snow on the side of the hill, which was suggestive of the common practice there of bringing their sleds to school. Parents are nothing but shit in my book. I quit to return to sea as a merchant seaman. When I got tired of that after eight years I went to barber college. I then spent 20 years in the barber trade. After all, I had an all male clientele with the exception of a few lesbians who wanted men’s haircuts, no inventory, no paperwork, and no payroll. If a kid refused to sit still I would l simply cancel the remainder of the haircut. If an adult was unreasonable such as demanding to know whether or not I could cut hair, I would simply tell them “I give haircuts not interviews” then go back to reading the newspaper or whatever it was that I’d been doing when the asshole wandered in. When you’re dealing with the public you’re dealing with assholes. That’s why it’s always best to be self employed so you can refuse unwanted business. And no, I don’t want to teach barber college. One of the crazy parents at the local barber college pulled a gun on a student barber working on a little boy because “he was too slow”.

I worked as an instructional assistant and one year I was signed to the middle school and we had a student who was going home crying to mommy everyday that he was being bullied. It became my job to follow him around from the start of school to the end of the day, everyday. It was supposed to only be for a month to show mom this was not happening. It ended up being for the whole school year. Multiple times a day, everyday that school year I got told Fu and F off, because he was mad that I was following him. I then had to go home and take care of my own kids. If I could have quit, I would have.
