It shows that you care about reliability and dependability; something that vehicles made by companies such as Toyota, Honda, Kia, and Hyundai deliver in spades.

    Insurance companies deny your surgery because you haven't done 4-6 weeks of physical therapy.
    Then, after that 4-6 weeks of PT, you still need the surgery. You GET the surgery. You need MORE PT
    But now you have to pay out of pocket for that physical therapy because you've already used your alloted 30 sessions of PT through your insurance. Insurance companies are the worst.

      Someone who has a friend whose mother is a pediatrician I think about her mother and wonder if she has any anti-vax stories and or stories of neglect. Make my blood boil too. Also, parents who have kids that very possibly have special needs or learning disability deny it again and again. You are only failing your child's potential. It could also be that they deny it because they can't spend the money on various therapy to help the child which sucks in itself.
      Insurance don't even get me started my dad has good insurance but it only covers up to a certain amount per year. And sometimes you run into the limit faster than you thought. It is a shame that not more is covered by our government. I live in Canada yes we have "free healthcare" but we pay though our taxes.

      Another issue that's mainly an American one. While anti vax does exist in other parts of the world their numbers are so small you almost have a higher chance to win the lottery then run into an anti vaxxer. The reason I think it's such a problem in the US is because of culture, general education, and healthcare system. Mainly the last two.

    I'm in veterinary medicine and everyone's least favorite part of this field is the way pet owners/ outsiders view the field or the workers in it. We endure a huge physical and emotional workload, work long hours and often compensation is low but we love what we do, so we continue to do it. This makes it extremely difficult when people make comments about how all we care about is money. People make a lot of nasty comments all the time and have really high expectations. (You need to see them right now, you should just know what's wrong without diagnostics, it's so expensive).

    • @AIopekis
      @AIopekis Před 5 měsíci +16

      Yeah. I do ER vet med, so this is pretty much a constant thing that I hear. Especially when it comes to money because, obviously, ER med tends to be much more expensive than GP. So we get a lot of people who think we're just in it for the money, meanwhile I'm getting paid so low that I can't even afford a 1 bedroom apartment in the bad part of town.

    • @KBRoller
      @KBRoller Před 5 měsíci +11

    • @KelliOlson79
      @KelliOlson79 Před 5 měsíci +16

      I worked in a vet hospital for about a year and it so sad. I couldn’t stay. People know the parts about surgeries and pets that don’t make it, but so many people don’t think about the neglect or outright abusive way people treat their pets. We had one guy come in with this beautiful orange tabby cat who was urinating outside its litter box. It had only been going on a couple days & was out of character. Instead of trying things at home or running a test for a UTI he made us put the cat to sleep. The veterinarian tried to talk him in to signing the pet over to us and we would treat him then try to adopt him out but he wouldn’t let us. That is the heartbreaking stuff I couldn’t handle.

      I’ve got a friend who’s on disability and the health insurance those people get is an absolute tumour. Her doctor had to get on the phone on her behalf and fight with the insurance because they labeled her diabetic test strips as, and I quote: “frivolous and unnecessary.” All insurance cares about is racking up as much money as they can for themselves. If there’s a way they can get out of doing their part of the contract, they absolutely WILL. And it’s the patient at the end of the day that suffers for it, sometimes paying the ultimate price. And I know doctors know this.
      Meanwhile, my fellow Americans want me to believe that health insurance companies are our lord and saviour in all this. Sorry not sorry, but health insurance companies are given way too much control and are protected to allow greed to run them.

    Hey Doctor Mike, if you’re reading this, I love your videos. I watch them all the time and to be honest you’ve helped me start a healthier life ever since I started watching you. You’re super funny and I learn at the same time. I have some medical conditions that I would love to ask you about if I ever meet you. I was born at 29 weeks and 2 days. To put that into perspective, I was supposed to be born on Christmas Day but I was born on 11 October! When I was born, I had breathing difficulties and almost died. I went home after a few months and had to be lugged around with my oxygen tank For 9 months after I was born. But, my health didn’t improve for a long time, going into hospital for colds, temperatures and flu, and when I was 5-ish I had bronchitis 3 times in a few months always going in an out of hospital and doctors offices. Around the age of 6 I had 3 febrile convulsions. Also within a few months testing and multiple MRIs finally gave them some as when I was 7 going into hospital for checkups every 3 months until I was 12. turns out I have 5 chronic illnesses, 1 of which was lung disease which I still have now but have now outgrown. I also have deficiencies of adrenaline/adrenal deficiency, iron deficiency, growth hormone deficiency and thyroid deficiency, all of which I am taking medications for. I am also what my parents call an ‘old soul’. I love reading books and dislike sports. I don’t often have much energy. It takes me at least 45 minutes to get to sleep every night. I’ve had suicidal thoughts and very often feel depressed. I have a short fuse and I’m very stubborn. I feel strongly for the environment, but feel as if I can’t do anything for it at my age. I always get thoughts of things that could, but most likely won’t happen, which gives me fears. I’m scared of going onto jetties for fear of them collapsing into the sea. I’m scared of heights. I’m worried about the house catching on fire, especially at night which is why I’m wanting to become a volunteer firefighter when I’m old enough. I’m worried about bushfires and their effects on me and people. These last 2 most likely define whether I have pets in my life. But your videos make me feel happy and if you’ve read all the way to here, Thanks so much and it feels good to get this off my chest. Reply to this and say ‘peewoop’ if you read this far. And guess what. I’m only 13 years old.

    Worst part about radiology:
    Not being respected as a medical specialty. I have already met so many nurses, lab techs, doctors etc., who diminish our level of education, experience and training to "just pressing a button", and even saying "anyone can do your job"
    edit: to be clear, I'm currently training to be a RADIOGRAPHER, not a RADIOLOGIST (the years in school scare me lmao). So my experience is almost solely based around the people making the medical images of patients.
    But I have already met a lot of judgemental opinions from other professionals about radiology, even though I've only been at it for a few years.

But literally all the practice could do was post a sign about not eating or drinking. It was good to hear from someone working within the NHS system. We Americans often have the NHS thrown in our faces whenever we moan about our insurance issues on any comment forum. To be fair, any system has it's horror stories and it's glories, too. Healthcare is a business, no matter how you slice it, so administrators have to oversee the red & black ink, trying to stay out of the red as much as possible, which ain't easy.
      We've made great strides in diagnostic and surgical technology, but these things are astronomically expensive. Staff aren't paid nearly what they're worth, but are still costly. Pharmaceuticals, equipment, medical supplies.....it all adds up, and no one wants to have to bear that expense alone.

I don’t work in the healthcare industry but as a retail employee who’s had to deal with the public and corporate shenanigans getting in the way of us doing our jobs effectively and efficiently and then somehow being blamed for not being able to live up to the ridiculous expectations I totally feel for everyone in this video with their frustrations!

    Mad respect to Jake for telling people that it’s okay to find help . I’ve seen firsthand so many people online talking about how they hate going to a therapist/psychiatrist or are scared of it. Even some who say that they can’t help at all. It’s really sad to see people going through serious mental issues and not wanting to get help because of unhealthy stigmas/stereotype. Hope Jake can reach this audience too and grow his channel to aid in erasing these stigmas/stereotypes.

      Finding the right therapist is also hard (not to mention the cost). I was first diagnosed with GAD/MDD in college. My first psychiatrist prescribed fluoxetine, but then dismissed me when I told him I was having side effects. He even joked about the side effects, implying I should be happy to have them. The next therapist immediately took me off the meds, as he was very anti-medication, and then told me basically "I'm not here to help you feel better about your problems, I'm just here to tell you what to do to pretend you're functional until faking it becomes a habit". (He didn't use those words, but that was his approach.) My third and final therapist was great for awhile... but when I lost my health insurance and couldn't afford her full payments anymore, her entire focus became "getting me in a place where I can get a better job" instead of actually listening to what I was asking her to help with. And as soon as I did get a better job... she told me she didn't think I needed her anymore, basically firing me.
      I haven't been to a therapist since. I'm sure finding the right one can be amazing for some people, but it's *hard* to find the right one, and for someone who needs a therapist for *literally having an anxiety and depressive disorder,* it's too exhausting to bother with after awhile.

      I have been to several therapists and tried many types of therapy. Not everyone benefits from sitting around and talking. Not everyone benefits from therapy. Going to therapy was nothing but an additional stress when my actual mental health improved more from taking that time to meditate.
      It's a wonderful tool for many, but what we don't need to do is pretend that it can fix everything. As a bonus point, a bad therapist can genuinely do more harm than good. People need to give therapy a try, but speak up and be honest about what is and is not working. If it's the therapist fit, find a new one. If it's the therapy in general, you're not neglecting your mental health for not doing it.

      @xionmemoria honestly there are so many different types of therapy now. Theirs EDMR IFS Sotomantic their are so many out there that people can look into now. That it is no longer one Fits all anymore. Theirs a lot of therapys for people who don't like talk therapy. Theirs also DBT as well. Not only that life gets difficult as you get older. That's why I tell people you mignt not need it now but people should be open to the idea especially when you get older death grief and things like that can be extremely hard on mental health especially if you lose parents or have mutiple family deaths.

    I'll chime in for my ophthalmologists as their loyal scribe. The least favorite part is "not seeing what they're seeing". Patients would complain about a visual distortion and are very bothered by it. However on the exam, everything looks normal and unremarkable that would lead the doctor to believe it's because of a certain condition.

    I’m not a doctor, but I was a phlebotomist. The one thing I hate when I was working as one was the fact that patients would forget to mention their needle or blood fears. It sure would have helped knowing that instead of having them faint and get injured while they fell. Trust me, it happened too many times. Anyone else? 😅

    • @KBRoller
      @KBRoller Před 5 měsíci +1

      I have a strong fear of needles in skin. I've never fainted, but every time I need blood taken, or a shot that has to be held in for a bit, I get nauseous and lightheaded (even if I'm not looking). So one time, I needed a bunch of blood taken, as I started seeing a new doctor with a chronic cough, so she wanted basically every blood test done as a baseline. I go into the phlebotomist's office, and of course I wasn't allowed to eat beforehand, so my stomach was already a bit blech, especially with the nerves. She starts taking blood, and I'm just closing my eyes and looking away and trying to breathe.
      Next thing I know, with no warning, I'm vomiting all over the floor. I was *humiliated.* I kind of wished I'd passed out instead, because vomit is worse. The nurse runs in and brings me over to the recovery room, tells me to rest a bit while they clean up. Then, when they were ready to try again, they had me lie down the whole time. Hu. Miliated.

      @@KBRoller oh no! We really don’t mind cleaning up messes. The only problem for us is when people with these kinds of needle and blood phobia neglect to tell us about their phobia, that sometimes they yank their arms away in the middle of a draw. Blood gets everywhere or we get accidentally poked by the needle. It’s very hazardous. Sometimes, they just faint and hit their heads on the desk or the floor, which makes the situation worse for the patient like a concussion or worse. I get that not everyone is great with needles or blood, but a little heads up if you’re feeling faint or nauseous. That way, we can release the needle quickly and support your needs. Looking away is good. I had a patient once that blasted loud music with their headphones and was distracted by the loud music that I finished drawing blood and he felt fine. When it comes to shots, ask the nurse if they can squeeze the area where they’re going to administer the shot. The pain from your skin being squeezed/ pinched doesn’t go away quickly, thus the pain of the needle going in is nonexistent. I would also recommend to go to the hospital early in the morning if you fast for 12 hours or more. That way, you can eat right away after.

    • @Mary-sh2bp
      @Mary-sh2bp Před 5 měsíci

      @@JadeGiose oh! I would suggest you to print out a small copy of all the test tube colors and which one to use for tests, and laminate it. I made it into a bookmark, so each time I read, I could memorize too. Buy yourself a good gel pen like what the nurses use, because you will need to have a good one when you’re filling in the test tubes. They usually print out patient identifiers nowadays, but for school, it’s manual so you can remember the order. Speaking of which, practice your military time because it’s what the hospital uses. Always ask questions because it’s always important questions and no dumb ones. You’re dealing with specimen that literally holds the answer to a patient’s health care. DO NOT BE COMPLACENT just because you’re used to the job. When you become complacent, you will likely make a mistake and that’s bad for you and the patient. If you have caffeine sensitivity, try to avoid drinking coffee because you don’t want your hand shaking during a draw, practice stabilization on both hands. Good luck!

      You could’ve just straight up asked people before you did it. I’ve had so many blood draws and IV’s from multiple week long hospital stays and 50/50 have asked me. I don’t have a fear of needles anymore because of the many times I’ve had them, but I’ve had a few instances where I was so sick or just worked up in general that I’d pass out. I didn’t know it was going to happen either so I wouldn’t have known to say anything 🤣
