Woodturning - Exploding (!) Crosshatch Lidded Bowl

What started out as a simple experiment with crosshatching strips of alternating wood got a little messy when the maple side of the bowl exploded. Fortunately, I was able to glue it back together and finish it up.
The final piece ended up better than I thought it would after the explosion!
The piece is maple with walnut crosshatching and walnut with maple crosshatching.
