Jesse Lee Peterson VS Jeff Durbin (Kind of)

  • Popular Conservative commentator, Jesse Lee Peterson, had Jeff Durbin on his national radio program for the second time. This time Jeff and the crew joined him in his studio in Los Angeles. They spent time talking #endabortionnow and then things (once again) took a turn toward cringe. It is apparent that Jesse holds to a very unbiblical view of sin and salvation and Jeff and Jesse scrap a bit.
    We hope that it blesses you in some way. It's a fantastic example of why learning exegesis and sound Biblical hermeneutics is so important. Jesse is all over the place and it is abundantly clear that he isn't at all familiar with how we got our Bibles.
    Strange thing is:
    Jesse is known as Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson and is the pastor (of a church he founded).
    If nothing else, this is at least entertaining.
    Soli Deo Gloria!

      @sirturdaloter141 to sin is to walk outside the will of God. Quite literally, it is to "miss the mark." We all sin. The difference between the Christian and everyone else is that the Christian lives in the grace and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ. The non-Christian does not rely on Christ for his salvation and, therefore, can not please God. See Romans 8:7-9.

    I love Jesse but he definately has a wrong view of what it means to be born again. He preaches that those who are regenerated will achieve sinless perfection this side of heaven but the Bible simply DOES NOT teach this. The born again believer is at war with their sin and they actually hate their sin but they are being sanctified and continually being conformed to the image of Christ. The difference between an unbeliever and someone who is born again is that the unbeliever is dead in their trespasses and sin but someone who is regenerated does not make a practice of sin.

    I used to listen to jesse lee for entertainment, but then I quit because I wasn't being spiritually fed. Jesse is a little hard headed in some areas and fairly misguided on biblical truth. he tends to pick and choose certain things from the bible for his arguing points and then when someone tells him he's taking scripture out of context he says, " naw man you confusing me." while Jesse is well meaning, I really hope he seeks the knowledge of the word of God and not the knowledge of the mind of Jesse. I sadly dissagree with most of his ideas as I wish he would learn the word a lot better, but I appreciate his zeal. with that said, I'm glad Jeff tore him to shreds in this interview.

    This brother is obviously very confused on the issue of sin. He is also very confused about the the purity of the text and it's transmission through the ages. If he is saying the word of God changes over time, because people have re-written it, then there is nothing in the text he can trust, and he shouldn't be quoting the word. What a messed up and inconsistent hermeneutic methodology.

      I have heard him a few times. He knows and quotes some scripture accurately. He seems to rely on common sense quite a bit which is not a bad thing if he saturates his mind and heart each day with the K.J.V. bible. Where the book of Is. 1:18 says Come now let us reason together, I believe Jesse places this over even reading the bible. But it stands to reason that we should take literally what the apostles said about Christian immunity from sinning after our sins are washed away. This seems like a starting point for Jesse, and he is correct on that tenet of the faith. I have also heard that he denies the Trinity of Persons in God, and for that I would say, more power to him.

      It is a spiritual battle of good vs. evil. There is no such thing as "racism." It has never existed. It has always been either right or wrong, love or hate. And most blacks today have hate. And most whites don't love blacks enough to tell them the truth - that neither whites nor "racism" are blacks problem, but blacks' own lack of moral character. Each suffers for his own sin, and passes it down to his or her children.

      I listen to JLP's show daily as I find it entertaining. He addresses good points like ending ongoing anger and understanding the "children of the lie" plus to be honest he trolls the left well but I never listened to him for Biblical doctrine. When he states _"children of God are to sin no more"_ I translate it as _"true, we are to no longer live in intentional sin but we will still sin nonetheless"_ but unfortunately I believe he feels that no more sin lives within us and that is wrong. JLP is definitely a legalist which goes against the understanding of _Sola Gratia_ (Salvation by grace alone). It's also a major red flag to state that you, as a fallible man, believe in an infallible God based on text *created* by other fallible men. The word of God from Genesis to Revelation is *directly* given from God to man (1 Thessalonians 2:13) and it stands forever (Isaiah 40:8); I fully believe that, will continue to stand on the word and there is no need for interpretation.

    Just like Jeff said Ezekiel 36:27 'I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances' ~ You will be careful. Not you will no longer sin. Finally He says "I WILL save you from ALL your uncleanness." This language "I WILL Raise them up, HAS ETERNAL LIFE" is ALL over the scripture. Salvation CANNOT be lost. Christ doesn't temporarily save you. You cannot snatch yourself out of the Fathers hand. John 6:37-40 " For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day" ~ If you think that you can sin your way or walk away from Salvation I beg you to read the book of John starting at chapter 1 and read through ALL the way to 20. Count how many times Jesus says "I give them eternal life, and I WILL raise them up on the last day", "he who believes HAS eternal life", "Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already", "hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life" ...... You cannot cross over from death to life, back to death, back to life, rinse repeat, rinse repeat. you cannot 'un-has' your salvation. you can't believe unless Jesus reveals himself so you can't un-believe. Don't give yourself too much power. Carefully read John 1-20 highlight everywhere Jesus talks about "believe' and ask yourself if you think it's possible to lose your salvation by your own sins or 'walking away' after you've been saved.

    • @steveno5852
      @steveno5852 Před 7 lety

      Jason, thank you for this post. I have a couple questions: If you can't be "un-saved" after you accepted Christ's sacrifice, what do you do with people who adamantly refute the gospel, or even preach against the gospel after they accepted Him? Do you say "well they never really believed in the first place?" There are those who really believed, and really believed they were saved, so will God "raise them up on the last day" to their surprise? Someone like Matt Dillahunty comes to mind on that question. In my opinion, I would say yes, and I believe I will see Matt in Heaven one day, but that is another conversation.
      My other question for you is for those Christians(born-again authentic professing and possessing) who have been dealt a lot of things in their life that have caused them to allow sin to reign in their life for a period of time, or to revert back to their sinning ways, or who are going through a time of struggle and can't seem to kick a habit(sinful habit). Some of these people I saw come and go and have been friends with and most just couldn't get over the fact that they were steeped in their sin so they fell further and further, getting worse and finally feeling so ashamed they quit the church, alienate their friends and choose to accept their sin and live their life how they want to live it. Same question here: is God going to "raise them up on the last day"?
      I ask because we have an epidemic with individuals these days that say it's OK to sin once you've been saved because God will raise you up on the last day because you can't be "un-saved". Romans 7:15-20 comes to mind as well as Luke 9:23

    • @jtremaine23
      @jtremaine23 Před 7 lety

      Steven O Yes, Scripture says that the person was never saved in the 1st place. When someone says that they used to be Christian, I immediately think of 1 John 2:19 "They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us." I'm not saying they will never come to faith but I knew it wasn't real from the beginning (according to Scripture). Matt Dillahunty would fall in this group.
      Also, there are those that confess that they know the Lord but, in actuality, they are depending on their good works instead of Jesus Christ alone......see Matthew 7:21-23. If Matt Dillahunty was still saying he was saved today and never followed the religion of atheism, he would fall in this group because it wasn't real in the 1st place--there was no true heart change.
      Please read Romans 3:27-31--The apostle Paul addresses this exact issue of people saying that you can keep sinning (with no conviction) and still be saved. Emphasis on verse 31. If a person is truly born again, they hate their sin so why would one practice sin as a lifestyle? He/she has been given a new heart with new desires....they now hate the things that God hates and love the things that He loves. This does not mean they will never sin....as Jeff Durbin points out in 1 John 1:8,10 but it should be confessed v. 9.
      To sum up what Jason Russo is saying is that "salvation belongs to the Lord" & Him alone. (Psalm 3:8; 62:1)
      One thing to keep in mind...no matter what anybody says, if God's Word says something different...ask yourself "who knows all things---them or God?" :-)

    • @JasonRussoMetal
      @JasonRussoMetal Před 7 lety +1

      At my bible study last Monday one of my brothers said "I knew Christians that killed themselves." I told him the problem with his statement is that he can't see inside anyone's heart so it's impossible for him to know those people were saved or (maybe they repented before death?). We can't know for sure. The apostles thought Judas was saved. Jesus knew he wasn't because he knows our hearts. I think of Romans 10:6-7 "don't say who will ascend to heaven" or who's going to hell. When ever someone tries to put you in the hot seat, gently move the spotlight off of yourself and point them to scripture. I say don't take my word for it. Take HIS word for it. So when someone asks me why do you believe in one time justification? Because it's in the Bible. Hope this helps you. God bless.

    Easy way to determine if Jesse is without sin is to ask his wife 😄

      @@chadrawls2262It's something about not having a wife in his life that gets me.

      @janedoe3567 He not going to have a wife he believes women are only good for cleaning house and making babies plus all the bad stuff going on in the world he put most of the blame on women because he had bad relationships with women starting with his own Mother who probably told him I wish I never had you day in and day out because his father denied him before he was born he was engaged twice and still didn't get married his baby momma took his son away from him so he will not be able to handle the New Generation of women plus he is not a fan of black people he has self hatred in him

    I think Romans 7:15-20 is applicable to this discussion. I'd be interested in hearing Jesse and Jeff's opinions on it in this context.

      Zac, you are correct this passage does have application to this discussion. It has to do with Sanctification, after Justification we are on a path of Sanctification (being formed in the image of Jesus. Paul here in Romans described a struggle all of us can identify with. Christians all do what is good, healthy, and right, but we end up committing the same old sins. As we honestly reflect on our lives, we admit our failures and seek to change, but we still may fall back into our old habits once again. We all need to continue to confess our sins to God, even if we've confessed the same sin numerous times. God promises to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). We will continue on this path of Sanctification till God see fit to take us home with him, then our Glorification happens.

    Wow I’ve never seen Jesse Lee Peterson so uncomfortable. That was amazing Jeff. All to the glory of God.
    That is why it says in the Word that when one person teaches two will correct. As much as I like Jesse, he needed correction and God certainly used you to speak the truth. God is good!
