I´m 23, and I can tell you, Jordan and Jocko are two big role models for our generation. This podcast is just gold. Please, never, never stop this podcast. More young people need to listen this guys. My generation needs it.

Yeah I was really frustrated when Peterson was on the H3 podcast and he was on a really interesting thread about sociopaths and the host jumps in and changes the subject. Jocko lets it play out.
Jocko shows his mastery of risk assessment and is a great example of how to command yourself; Jocko's actions are uninfluenced and unaffected by malice of others. He has obtained the "American Dream" (freedom of thought not objects or social status). This is a great model for parenting and should be the basis of our elementary education (how to learn); currently authoritarian Learning (authority decides facts) only teaches submission to authority or perceived authority. USA DOE standard is 12 years to become a productive member of society, USMC officer training is 10 weeks to become proficient as unit command (critical thinking under dire & solitary situations)

I agree with this statement 100% I am so grateful for the JRE! I've been introduced to so many people I would have never heard of. People I agree with, people i don't and those in the middle, where I don't mind hearing them out. I'm learning more about other viewpoints and mindsets. I feel very fortunate and blessed to live in a day in age that I have the means and opportunity to gain insight and information while on the go. While leading a busy life. 😊
It was the other way round for me. Dr. Peterson led me to Joe Rogan but yes, I am so glad I am seeing more women in the comment sections lately in these types of content lately. Just really happy. Also, I miss JBP so damn much.

Honestly. If you just talk to people. A.k.a. Friend, then you will feel better. People like to be all dramatic about what's happened to them and claim that no one cares or say that it's not anyone's business. It's like, okay, then feel free to suffer on your own. The reality is if you simply talk to people, you have an outlet and the pressures Doesn't build up until you go nuts. It's that simple. You don't need to spend $500 an hour. Talking to dip s*** who f****** can't fix your problem. Within 10 years or 25 years. Obviously scam.
@@samiamgreeneggaandham yeah, I know a someone who works with the addicted. Real success isn't getting them clean, it's keeping them clean. Zero data on overall effectiveness of the program because they don't follow up anymore after just a couple of years. BTW the taxpayers fund this...
@@samiamgreeneggaandham- I was diagnosed with CPTSD a few years ago which is basically multiple traumatic experiences that are each capable of causing PTSD.
I have spent about 5 years being treated for it. What happens to the brain is a normal response to an abdominal injury. Just like you will form a scar when you cut yourself, the lower brain area which is responsible for immediate detection and response to danger becomes overly developed.
The problem is that this part of the brain has a tendency to take over and wants to run the show. It will react before you are consciously aware and when it does then you don’t have access to the prefrontal cortex which is the problem solving part and does the higher order thinking skills.
So you end up with a superpower for survival which is a very good survival tool but it’s not a good living skill. Conversely operating in the prefrontal cortex is a good living tool but it’s not a good survival tool because it takes too long when it’s a life or death situation and you have to respond immediately.
So the reason why therapy takes so long is that you have to build new pathways to connect the lower brain to the upper brain. That doesn’t happen unless you are doing it intentionally. Otherwise the survival part will just override the other parts. You come to rely on survival because it saves your life in an emergency and therefore it’s not just difficult but nearly impossible to shut it off when it’s already activated before the frontal cortex is. If you don’t have the wires to connect from one area to the other then you can’t switch from survival to living very easily when you’re activated by a stimulus. And the stimulus is activating the low brain before you are even aware it happened. So suddenly you don’t feel safe and you’re hit with a fight or flight response and all is was was a sound or smell or look on someone’s face or a black car coming from the right or someone taking a step towards you. Anything that happened before or during the trauma can become a trigger to switch off the cognitive function and switch on survival.
I did Nuro feedback therapy and when they did the brain scan, they could see the brain waves for PTSD were in the 90th percentile on the other brain waves were in the 10th percentile. After treatment I was able to get my brainwaves to function closer to a more normal range. I had already had a couple years of therapy before that but then I was attacked by an armed carjacker who fired 26 rounds at me at close range and I shot and killed him. It made it very difficult to negotiate with my lower brain to let go and let the cognitive brain run the show. It wanted to switch to survival 24/7 and that’s an exhausting way to live.
Hopefully you’ll find that helps understand the nature of PTSD as a natural response to trauma that is life saving but also becomes a double edged sword.

In the beginning God created Heaven and Earth. He created humans too to have a relationship with Him. That's our purpose as humans that have a relationship with God. Sin, however, messed that up because it made us imperfect and imperfect creatures cannot have a relationship with a perfect and holy God. That's why we so oftentimes feel empty, unsatisfied and unaccomplished because we're not in relationship with the God we were created to be in a relationship with. But that's where Jesus comes in. Jesus is God's son and He came down to earth in human form to live the same life we do yet unlike us He never sinned. Jesus is perfect. Yet despite the fact He is perfect He died on the cross for our sins and sacrifice Himself for us. The punishment for our sins is death but because Jesus took that punishment for us if we put our faith in Him and receive Him as Lord and savior we can be reconciled to God and be restored to that relationship we were created to have. And we can be sure that Jesus is the Son of God because on the 3rd day God raised Him from the dead and in that He defeated death and the grave, proving that He can do the same for us if we put our faith in trust in Him. That's how you get to Heaven. That's how you become full in your heart. That's how you become reconciled to the God who created you.

Quick story.
Prior Marine. I was in San Diego, riding an electric scooter 4-5 years ago right as it was a idk new thing fell off busted my face, had to go back to Pendleton to get stitches at the hospital. But I had an uber ride back. Met a man from Iraq. Didn't speak much English. Downloaded a translating app so we could talk and he told me how he recently left Iraq because his family was Chrisitian and believed his family would be killed as well as himself would be killed if they stayed. He escaped the country put his family in Istanbul, he alone moved to America to work and support his family in Istanbul....you get few moments in life like that. I remember being so caught up in his story that I completly forgot how split open my face was.....I remember trying to talk to him about that....never saw him again. I hope he reunited with his family.

However, lets say such thing exist. If you listen to what Jocko says, and watch how military works, you will find out one thing. Lets say, you have a platoon full of soldiers with the same rank and they are given a mission. If those soldiers are all responsible and disciplined "alphas", they will still choose one of their team mates to take the leader rol. They will pick the one whose judgement they trust the most.
Why is it? Because regarless of the hierarchies, every organized team/organization, need someone as the carrier of the vision and a good judgement to get to that vision.
They wont fight between themselves to be leaders and inflate their egos. They will pick a competent individual, and will trust their lives on that leaders judgement.
In fact, almost anyone that knows what leadership is about perfectly, would rather not be one. Too much responsibility for an untrained human being can be psychologicaly devastating.
TL;DR.

So many people in today's world need to listen to this podcast. Me included, of course. Put your damn phones down, RAISE your kids, have self discipline, help others, be kind, be honest, be true to yourself, be humble, respect yourself and others, have purpose and ambition, don't self pity, respect authority and overall just strive to be the best version of yourself during our short time on earth!
Honestly…I would pay 500 bucks an hour just to be unable to unload alllll of my issues onto Dr. Peterson and would absorb his advice like a complete sponge because he just absolutely gets it…he’s such a brilliant mind.
And Jocko nails it regarding human kind needing struggle once again to realize how difficult life can be and we are so insulated from it..for example..we haven’t had world war in nearly 100 years..we have no conception of how good we have it.
This is a tremendously informative conversation.

I think about this opening often. I first saw this when it aired 5 years ago. I have never forgotten and never will.
Anything involving Jordan Peterson is worthwhile and beneficial for everyone!
I am Iraqi and I immigrated with my family to America at age 6. I moved back in 2016 with my family to Baghdad. What Jocko described in the opening, it really happens, not in Baghdad but in Mosul and other cities. And my main goal is gain revenge at what deashe (ISIS) did to my people and my country. So as soon as I finish college I am signing up for Green Beret training. I am currently 15.
You are truly an amazing individual. We need more people like you in the USA.

He reminds me of my dad. If my dad had been an academic, too. He was a principled man who knew exactly who he was and what he needed to do. I've never met anyone as calm or as committed to helping others with zero fanfare. He was extraordinary. Dr. Peterson has similar gravitas and wisdom about what matters and what one must do. My dad always said he had to accomplish at least one thing every single day...in order to stand himself, I think. I relate to that and hear it in Dr. Peterson's clean your room adage. We have to progress or we wither.

It's perfectly true that almost everything Dr. Peterson says I either agree with or update my current ideas on the subject. That's truly remarkable for a man to know so much universal truth and then to articulate it! He's a true role model in my life.
Thank God that modern technology exists and that conversations like this can be recorded, saved, and revisited-indefinitely.
There are nigh countless moments in this single conversation where I had the impulse to pause the video and write down my thoughts on an individual sentence, phrase, or word that was said, but my written thoughts on it would make no sense without also writing down the context… which could take ages, and far longer than my retention of the original thought in the first place.
One day, I’ll get all my thoughts and ideas written down and sorted out once and for all-that’ll also be the same day I die at 153 years old… probably from covid.

@@AbsoluteArch Sure, I get that. University filled me up with immense knowledge about my field and their 4 years of training prepared me for the career that I'm currently enjoying. Listening to guys who've endured a lot of hardships like Jocko taught me a lot about life and gave me a lot of perspective. I think the former is intelligence and the latter is wisdom. So I get what the guy is saying, but I guess I disagree with him because I don't think someone can really say one is 'more' than the other since each represents a different aspect of life.

For me, those free speech events are mostly entertainment, especially when sjw's 'sperg out. So glad these old podcasts are still available. My son and I listened to Jocko's podcast's on a 3 hour drive to go to an airshow with both military jets and stunt pilots. He has just been accepted into a pilot program. Jocko's podcasts helped him make little changes to turn his life around and be more disciplined. I had been bingeing watching Joe Rogan podcasts with Dr. Peterson(and watching JP on other podcasts as well) for a week leading up to this. This is part of the heavy duty transformation I've been going through the past 5 years. I hit a road block a couple years ago and did a lot of backsliding and struggled to get back on the wagon. My eureka moment came several years ago when I was taking accountability for my weakness, too many to list and some of that includes raising 4 children alone for 20 years. I am a 50 something woman who absolutely loves kung fu movies and it made me think about the discipline it takes to train and become a great martial artist! That is what I lacked all my life was self-discipline. I knew I needed to make another change, to get back on track. Listening to Jocko and JP, and then this one together has really bolstered my goals. I've made a commitment to myself to make these small changes that in the end will add up to something big. I did it once before, but lost motivation (which I understand why now) Now I'm ready to focus, reach my goals and stay on track.
Thanks for sharing, I backslid pretty heavily myself after having great success in my 30s. A bad break-up can do that though and discipline is what I am struggling with as well. I'm optimistic I can turn it around. Hope all those small changes you made are adding up to something significant 8 months later.
@@zarbins Thank you. Not doing too bad, but not where I want to be...yet. The biggest thing, I quit drinking and that really helped my motivation. Back on healthy eating, exercising and setting reasonable goals. Life isn't too bad! Looking forward to summer and go hiking, swimming, kayaking, camping with my significant other!

Some of them really lagging behind by global standards. There are many countries where you can't be bankrupted by medical bills or by getting an education. There are many countries that don't terrorize the rest of the world for the sake of "freedom and peace". There are many countries that have a prison system & social security system that actively encourage rehabilitation for all but the worst of the worst of criminals. Get a grip. Your country is shit. America isn't even " the land of opportunity" these days because small businesses are not supported well (by the law I), and cheap loans are not that easy to get. That advertisement was true for maybe the first 150 years or so, when things were pretty uncontrolled. It isn't the "land of the free", especially when you take into account your oppressive legal processes, government surveillance and institutions like the FBI, CIA and NSA.

When I saw this come up on my feed I had to do every chore in the house beforehand so I could listen to it without embarrassment.

This resonates so hard. I was 17 when I learnt to swim. I got angry at the fact I couldn't (my dad had been so hard on me it left me with a mental block about it and a phobia). I joined swimming classes, and all the others were under 10yo. I was so embarrassed. But I stuck with it, passed the course, and ended up joining my dad's scuba diving club. I passed all my open snorkel diver qualifications and was pretty proficient in the end, probably more so than most swimmers. In recent years I've noticed the fear has crept back and I've regressed somewhat. But that also taught be that you need to be vigilant with your fears because they never go away.
You are right, also guilt and regret, 2 most painful feelings. Anger is just a secondary 20 minutes or less of sitting with emotion. You do not stand and let a wave blow you over, to advance further out you dive in to wave an pop out on backside and intensity of feeling subsided.
Now... Shame is a beatiful emotion, do you know why?

Now... What is opposite of shame? Pride, so if you think what occurs in Pride Community? Shame does not have a home there, what is guiding moral compass?

Hi Jocko, I am a casual Podcast viewer. This is perhaps one of the best podcasts I've come across of Peterson so thank you so much, it was hard for me to make up my mind about him views. However, I found this interview so refreshing and thought provoking. I enjoyed listening to your experience in the military and how you found your purpose as well. I was mostly neutral about Peterson since I understand what he's talking about philosophically about psychology and religion; his talking points are incredibly high level and it takes so much introspection, life-lived, and knowledge to ACTUALLY follow what he has to say so I understand why he got "cancel" at one point and how that affected his mental health since his messages are fundamentally good beliefs. At one point, I questioned his intentions when he was riding his hype (due to conservative media) too dangerously by knowingly convey his message in a way that would elicit a reaction and his lack of credence when it came to juxtaposition his views with modern times. Despite him having conservative views and being "correct" in terms of principle, society has overwhelmingly moved on from those concepts without a "major collapse" like we're not going into a recession because of transgender people. He overuses old ideals to convey his message in a modern world and just doesn't work on a younger audience. Peterson is human and its easy for anyone to eclipse themselves when they gain so much fame suddenly.
Anyways, I saw some of his talks about his physical and mental health struggles and his belief in God made me think "ok, Peterson just got canceled, politics aren't as popular anymore, so he's bringing himself to an equilibrium." He's not changed, maybe he's not showing up on everyones FY page or conservative politics but he's always stayed true to himself after everything he's been through. It's inspiring cause he got "mega" canceled like losing his teaching credentials and ability to practice clinical psychology which is messed up cause we need more people that understand the mind like Peterson.
I'm not easy to impress. Jocko is a hero, and if he ran for president I would fundraise for him.

Two weeks ago I made $1,900 and last week I worked 3 days and made $1,100. I went from living off of VA disability and SNAP (food stamps) to looking at making $80,000 next year in a matter of 2 weeks.

Jesus it’s kinda hard to deal with Jordan when he just drops a huge wisdom bomb in the middle of a sentence and then carries on like he didn’t just spit fire. “When you kill your ideal you’re lost” and then just continues what he was saying.

I think it’s impossible to listen to Jordan Peterson and not walk away a better man. Just hearing him say you can and should strive for more integrity in life is invigorating every time because literally no one else is giving that message to men these days.
Im on day 3 of watching this before work. I work at 6am and have to leave at 5:30…I’ve been getting up earlier and earlier to finish this and today I got up at 3:30 to get to the end. No, not even close. I've made similar comments to this like 3-4 times. Most of the time it was where I found him involved in something very unexpected or on a channel I've never heard of before.
Though I do think there are some other people who spam comments like this on many of his videos.
