NOTE: As of February 23rd, 2024, FFG reversed their previous ruling on Survival Technique and basic investigate actions on locations.
Hey everyone! Recently, Eric requested that the two of us do a video discussing The Feast of Hemlock Vale player cards. Sensing Eric's excitement for learning more about Arkham, I couldn't say no!
This is the final review video for Eric and Hemlock Vale, so hopefully you enjoy this new player's perspective on the player cards!

1:06:37 The devs rolled back that ruling on Survival Technique. It no longer works on basic Investigate actions at locations.
Yes, thank you. I forgot to make and pin a comment mentioning that when this video went live. The Survival Technique ruling was brought back after the video was recorded and is no longer accurate. Your comment will be the pinned comment now.
@@PlayingBoardGames I think this was just a misunderstanding with the ruling of Grizzled. A basic investigate is considered a "test against an encounter card", but not "a test on an encounter card".
@@Neescherful Stuff like this spreads like wildfire, I recall seeing it as a ruling somewhere that was reversed, but regardless of what it was, it only reminds me again to ignore any rulings that come out as emails and return to the FAQ ruling only style I settled on last spring.
@@PlayingBoardGames Oh I don't blame you :) It was definitely on ArkhamDB, so I think it's good you brought it up. I just meant, to me personally it didn't make any sense that a basic investigate is considered "a test on the location".
For modern sport archery that's mainly about accuracy, you only need enough strength to get the range and stability you need to reach your targets. Historical war bows needed to potentially penetrate armor and inflict mortal wounds, so many were very hard to draw compared to most sport bows people use today.
You also want to a lot of strength to repeatedly draw over the course of a battle.
If I understand Miracle Wish correctly, it's not simply "a bunch of Eucatastrophes". Unlike Eucat, Miracle Wish/Evanescent Ascension does not replace the token you have just drawn with an Elder Sign, it resolves the Elder Sign in addition to it. Notably that means it can't cause you to succeed when you draw an auto-fail, which makes it quite lackluster for a level 5 card, in my opinion (maybe unless you have a super sick Elder Sign, but then again none of the investigators that I would classify as such can play this card)
Nacho's ability elder sign that recurs events is the one I have my eye on.
Ancient skeletons were literally deformed and had one side of their body with thicker bones because anicent archery required so much strength. English war bows had huge draw strengh. Saying archery is more of a dex thing is a popular rpg misconception
It's 2024, I don't care about old skeletons anymore.
48:10 is why the video took so long to release as it took up all the production budget for February :P
51:10 Only Justin could look at Rod of Carnamagos and think Song of the Dead/Jim enabler. Never change Justin (:
Evanescent Ascension doesn't replace the tokens drawn (i.e. -5, skull, auto-fail), you resolve the elder sign ability in addition to the drawn token. So if your elder sign doesn't have much +value to it (or you aren't Mateo) the test is probably still a failure.
Another great combo with Testing Sprint is Amanda Sharpe, provided you play it on a turn where you can proc multiple locations with a solid skill card under her (deduction, for example).
I don’t think you’re happy if your plan for Bianca “Die Katz” is to just play her, take 5 resources, then kill her. That’s spending 3 actions to get net 3 resources. You either want to be succeeding on those parley checks or using her in your parley deck to spawn an enemy when you need one
I enjoy all of the content you all release, and, my FLGS still hasn't received Hemlock Vale (Thanks Asmodee,) so this is perfect for me at least.
Ok, let's discuss Strong Armed and Firearm/Ranged.
You do need muscles to fire a bow. Usually when firing a traditional bow, you have to remain on overdraw for quite some time to line up a shot, which requires a good amount of muscle.
Also, firearms do need muscle too. Have you tried shooting a rifle? Not only it can be heavy, it also can recoil heavily. If you don't hold your gun on a good, steady grip, you might even get a fracture depending on the gun.
So, basically, strong armed should work on both. But FFG continues the trend of making Melee weapons much more worthwhile than guns.
About miracle wish: based on a token bag of 13 tokens.
If you add 6 bless token about every 11 tests should give 2 drawn, and 48 for 3.
With 10 tokens this becomes 5 and 15 tests.
I would say x=2 is very easy and x=3 probably only happens with 10 bless tokens, or if a investigor at your location looks at mutiple 5okens simultaneously.
Olive mcbride (2) makes 3 or more quite likely.
Wrong Place, Right Time is for Hank. When he flips he can't be healed. They needed to print something like this IMO.
Yep, Wrong Place, Right Time and Devil get around the "cannot be healed" limit and can be combined with other survivor healing like bandages.
Say you get hit for 2 damage and have Devil and bandages in play. If you tank both points on Devil you can only heal 1 of them using Bandages. But if you put 1 point on Devil and one on your Resolute Hank, then you can proc Bandages on the damage on Devil and then proc it again when the damage is moved off Hank and put on Devil due to Devils ability.
Also, Wrong Place, Right Time allows you to utilise the soak of other investigators at your location, such as triggering the death effects of Xavier or Tetsuo Mori even if they were played after you already took the damage you are trying to get rid of.
23:59 we are back to calling curses chaos haha
Never change eric
Is Justin saying Crededentials another Eu reka situation?
I hope the head of Carnamagos makes regular appearances on the channel!
38:27 I was trying Fence deck for Finn with two Bank Job and it works extremely cool. Fence goes into underworld market, so you get it pretty reliable. So goes two bank jobs. And these bank jobs let you afford all the goods from the underworld market, so you deck becomes extremely consistent and reliable.
Fence has always been playable, and since Underworld Market I think is actually quite good, since you can consistently get it out on turn 1-3, and get a lot of value out of it over the course of the game.
I only realized now that upgraded Rod of Carnamagos isn't limit 1 per deck.
really looking forward to finally being able to build a usable gunfina deck with british bulldog,. Also looking forward to trying out the science archetype, the parley archetype and the expanded curse and blessed archetypes. Not crazy about the masks, an underpowered card might be a miss but an overpowered card makes the whole game worse.
I don't think Cleaning Kit works with Ornate Bow. The bow's action is to physically put the ammo (arrow) in the bow and aim. Just having more ammo would not effect this. I would be very happy to be proved wrong. Ornate Bow and Skids is an awesome combo.
You can use the supplies on Cleaning Kit as if they were ammo on Ornate Bow, meaning you can fire the bow if there is no ammo on it but there are supplies on your Cleaning Kit.
Can anyone specify if Bewitching requires the investigator to perform an engage action to activate, or if it’s simply when that investigator becomes engaged with an enemy?
It is when an investigator becomes engaged with an enemy. Look at it that you are engaging the enemy and the enemy is engaging you at the same time.
Hear me out: cleaning kit + strange solution
