Can I just say that this channel has had the most useful (and useable!) tips I've come across for everyday design? I've rearranged 2 rooms with great results thanks to your quick and helpful tips. Love the videos, love the shorts. Please keep 'em coming!
Me too! I rearranged my weird very long living space and now I have a designated work area separate from the sitting area. Didn't think that was possible given the Western love for open floor plans but it's helping me study so much easier!
Hear, hear! I've rearranged my living room, my office, and my bedroom. The past month has been so incredibly productive and I've gotten the best sleep of my life. It is shocking how comfortable my bed now is just because it's not near the door in any way.
Same!! I’ve rearranged my living room and bedroom. I once wanted to move from my current place, now I love it again because the sections and way everything flows!
Could you do a tier list? Like if the bed has no command position and you have to choose between a wall against a toilet or in view of a mirror which would be the better one to relent to?
He sort of answered this question in a different video, about rooms with awkward shapes where there is no clear ideal answer. He said it depends on you individually, and what is most important for you in your situation. So if you know the view of the mirror will bother you, being against the toilet wall might be better. If the toilet has leaks and there is damp in the wall, but the mirror has never bothered you, it's probably better to be facing the mirror.
The trouble is, builders don't build with fung shui in mind. My bedroom has windows on 2 walls, and two closet doors on one wall, and the entrance door on the other. And only 11.5 feet square. So my bed has to go on the wall with the entrance door. But I feel safe because of my pitbull and rottweiler.
TOTALLY agree!!! I heard in another one of their videos it’s important to take into account the different amount of energy coming in through either the door or the windows, so maybe if you can take that into account and put your bed with the least energy coming at you (like maybe because of your dogs you feel less energy coming from the door than the windows?)… I’m not sure this is right but that’s how I’m thinking about it since I can’t add walls or change things too drastically in my apartment! ❤️❤️❤️
Agree!! My friend had similar issue with her apartment. She's so uncomfortable with the bed directly facing the entrance door (Cliff's biggest no no XD), but the room is so small that the other only possible place to move it is accros the closet which has mirrors for doors 😕 In the end, she put the bed there, but also has a table between the closet and bed to cover the mirrors a bit. Oh and also, I don't mean to be rude, but it's spelled feng shui - feng from the word wind, and shui from water. Just so you know ❤
I'm no spiritual person either, i just take energy to mean airflow and the flow of movement. I definitely feel unrestful and nervous when I have to sit/sleep in the path the air or people walking by take and these feng shui videos explain very well, why I've felt these issues in the past. It may sound superstitious or made up, but what it describes is very real and I for one don't care about what words you use to describe your concept as long as it's true.
Feng Shui actually takes the human psyche into account. If your bed is close or in direct line with the door, you feel subconsciously nervous and restless since any potential "threat" coming through the most likely entrance could see or reach you immediately while you're at your most defenseless. Instinct from WAY back in our history. You place the head end of the bed against a solid wall for the same reason. Eliminating a direction to look out for for threats
oh YES!! Cliff I've followed you for almost a year now and just so happened to find this...the EXACT layout of my new apartment's bedroom - the closet aligns, so does the window and door, with a queen size bed, even - and now I'm going to save this video so it won't get lost. Soooo happy to find this!
I want the door near me because instinctively I want to be able to leave my room quickly in the case my children need me. The 'energy' that connects me to my children is calming.
Tis is literally my bedroom (starter setting) just the bookshelf next to the bed in a high chest of drawers. I have been living here for ten years and tried some combination and the one from the beginning of the video is definitely the best one for me. If I switch the bed like he recommends I can see all the way into living room and it makes me feel exposed and nervous, while as it is now the chest of drawers blocks my view of the door (can’t really see them whether open or closed) and makes me feel secure. Also I have window next to the bed which gives nice draft in hot summers, occasionally allows me to watch moon or rain before falling asleep and sunrise wakes me up before alarm (I swim before work so it helps me get up)
My bedroom is currently set up how he recommends in this video, and you're right, I can see into the hallway from my spot on the bed, which is unnerving. Making sure the door is shut mostly fixes, but I don't like it when the door is open, even a crack
Yes!! I just shared the same problem in the comments. If you drew the energy lines, as he often does, it feels like the energy doesn’t turn INTO the room, rather it carries straight through to my feet.
I sleep with a direct view of the door to my right, and I actually like it more than the idea of it being at the other end of the room. Maybe it's just because I've always had it this way, but I also like to be able to see it at all times.
@@syllith3077 yeah i remember the solution was having each bed on opposite walls and putting books shelves between them, covering and dividing the space so both can have some privacy

I'm not into fengshui, but I watched a lot of your videos and did a quick search for living rooms. I have a long living room and my family and I love books! I also found a free room design program and played around with different furniture arrangements based off of what I already have. My kids and husband spend more time in the living room now and it's fengshui proof (minus an area rug for the sitting area)! I even created a music corner that still somehow flows with the room! Thank you for your videos that show us real situations!
I feel inspired from your videos to figure out how two people and a very large dog can be in such a small bedroom while still having a desk and chair, I think even our decor is to chaotic rn I feel like I need help lol thank you for putting examples up like with shapes and what not
This is my exact bedroom and this is my first time seeing your videos, never heard of any of this but I actually have my bedroom set up almost exactly like this!!! Thanks!!!
I changed my bedroom layout today because I was feeling anxious with the bed directly in front of the door. This is exactly how I rearranged it! Even the door, window and closet are in the exact same spots. I feel good now lol
When I set up my bedroom I bought two short bookcases. Some time passed and the shelves were getting full and I contemplated changing them to tall bookshelves, but then I remembered this video and the oppressiveness tall bookshelves represent (especially since the room isn’t big). Thank you
I live alone and so it's actually more peaceful to sleep next to the door because my neighbor has to walk pretty much right by my window very easy to hear if she's talking to someone.
I remember when I was buying furniture for my bedroom I nearly bought tall storage units to "maximise real estate", but had the gut feeling it'd crowd the room and opted for 3 drawer dressers instead. Displaying pretty things is a must! This layout looks almost like my bedroom, feeling SO validated now 😂
Also can we just talk about how he aims a light at these little models out of screen?? Sometimes, it very clearly comes into play because that's where the windows would be, and he puts stuff near it to show that it will block the natural light. Even here, you can kinda see how the bed on the other side feels nicer with how the light comes in. So cool 💕 love this channel
All of your videos are so helpful and easy to understand, I just wish I could hire you to help me do my whole apartment!! After I see the end results I’m always in awe of how much better the space feels but I am still not confident in my own skills to know what would make my own personal spaces feel better. But I’m learning!! ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for sharing!! It’s truly appreciated :)
I thought, from other videos, that with the door opening like it is show that moves the flow of energy to the bed and that was no good? Genuinely curious, I love watching these!
But but but, vertical bookshelves make more sense to me! You put the stuff you use the least often at the very top, the most often in the middle, and the rest at the bottom, so you don't need to bend down or get on your tippy toes every time you need to get something. It's also much more easier to clean and maintain.
I actually have my bedroom set up similar to this, except the bed is pushed into the corner. I hadn't realized that was helpful but my room does feel calmer. I love learning this stuff!
I like my tall bookshelf next to my bed. However it's a mix of thin metal rails with wood shelves. There is a lot of open space and I have a lamp on it as well.
Every time I think “there is no way it could be changed for better, room is too small and it barely fits a bed”, you go and change it and even add more furniture into the mix. If I won’t concentrate on the process it looks like magic sometimes😂
This is how we have our master set up. And I didn't even know that this was the best option! We're just missing our night stands right now due to the fact we're moving 🤣🤣
My room is very similar to the first one you showed, a big room with bed to the side (although there is a closet in mine) and a lot of furniture to the other side. And tall shelfs near me and bed in the path of the door. Last week I finally bought matching nightstands and I’m rearranging my room with your advice to see how it goes!
As much as I agree with the changes, I will argue the original layout feels very secure and private, but if that isn't what you're going for obviously it's not ideal, but I've had my bedroom set up more or less the same and didn't feel it was a bad layout
I love that the storage choice is always a 2x4 IKEA Kallax. 😄

Could you do a tier list? Like if the bed has no command position and you have to choose between a wall against a toilet or in view of a mirror which would be the better one to relent to?
Omg this is such a good idea!!
He sort of answered this question in a different video, about rooms with awkward shapes where there is no clear ideal answer. He said it depends on you individually, and what is most important for you in your situation.
So if you know the view of the mirror will bother you, being against the toilet wall might be better. If the toilet has leaks and there is damp in the wall, but the mirror has never bothered you, it's probably better to be facing the mirror.
in this particular situation I'd get rid of the mirror
personally i would pick the side facing a mirror bc i sleep on my side, so i wouldnt wake up facing the mirror and get startled
I *think* the answer is a rug under the bed to ground it? (Been watching for a while) 😅

That's why we have curtains, try a 4 poster bed with it's own "movable walls".
I'm not a big believer in rooms having "energies" but I love this channel because of your voice and still really helpful tips for arranging rooms
Energy is a loose term for human flow and movement. It's like heat map in English.
energy here seems more like a catch-all term for everything like sightlines, people moving, focal points, sound, whatever
@@fortcolors9887 pretty much. The practical side helps and was explained a little elsewhere.

As much as I agree with the changes, I will argue the original layout feels very secure and private, but if that isn't what you're going for obviously it's not ideal, but I've had my bedroom set up more or less the same and didn't feel it was a bad layout
This is my exact room size and layout😮!
You're a gem
