  • The Perseus 16mm paddle gives you some of the benefits of a thermoformed paddle but in a lighter, control focused design that will make it worth the higher price tag for some players. The Perseus 14mm is more of an advanced player that has some good qualities though I'd recommend other thermoformed paddles if you're looking for more power.

    Really liked how you showed stats both before and after adding lead tape. I wish more reviewers would do that. That also helps viewers understand what preferences particular reviewers have for swingweight/twistweight, etc.

    Another great review! This one was super helpful and provided further insight than I’ve heard on other Perseus reviews. Really like that you include the twist weight metric.
    Any chance a Scorpeus review is following soon or did you do any side by side comparisons of it to the Perseus?

    Hey man question for you. Sometimes its hard for me as a new but quick learning player to really decipher when testing paddles between soft, power, pop, plow through etc. Using your own scale of 0 through 100 where would you put the Franklin Ben Johns 16mm. Something about the way this paddle hits allows me to put my drives low and I can control it well but I dont dink well with it and it has tons of dead spots and lost its spin really quick. So I am trying to find a modern longer lasting better tech/spin but feel of the Franklin Ben Johns 16mm - any recs?

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před rokem

      It’s been a bit since I hit that paddle but when comparing them together my first thoughts are that they have similar power, the Franklin is less forgiving and more jumpy off the center which is what makes it little harder to control, and then the spin is way better on the Joola.

    I have been loving my Perseus 16mm. It's a direct upgrade to my Joola vision. It's light and has excellent power. The minor issue I was having was the sweet spot being a little small but I have been adjusting and not hitting as many dead spots as I was in the beginning. A concern that I do have is that when I put it next to my ear and shake it I can hear a rattle sound not sure if it's a big deal or not but something that should be mentioned.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před rokem +5

      That’s a good way to think about it. It’s more of an upgraded Vision than an upgraded Hyperion like people were expecting. If you hear a rattle then some glue is probably loose. You should warranty it.

    • @CryptoxLawyer_eth
      @CryptoxLawyer_eth Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@pickleballeffect upgraded vision, okay. but the real question i'd love to hear your feedback on is this: if you currently play with a joola hyperion, is it worth upgrading to the perseus given all the points you make? Great video btw, well done

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@CryptoxLawyer_eth it’s very different from the Hyperion. I’ve had some friends make the transition and ended up liking the lighter weight and little extra power but it’s an adjustment. Even when you add lead tape the balance is different from the Hyperion. I personally like the Perseus more but you’d just have to try it out to see if it’s the right move for you.

    Love this review a lot. Will you be doing a review on the Scorpeus soon? Currently I am playing with the Scorpeus 16mm. I have tried the 14mm Scorpeus and although my hands are faster at the kitchen line but reset shots are definitely not as good as the 16mm. Thinking about trying out the Perseus 16mm too after watching this video. Thanks

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před 10 měsíci

      I think it is. I really wasn’t a big fan of the Perseus 14, the sweet spot was smaller and it was harder to control than the 16. I did like the Scorpeus 14mm though.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před rokem

      Yes, there are tons of good paddles out there for less but I do feel like these have a niche fit if you’re looking for a lightweight, new age control paddle that isn’t mimicked yet by a cheaper option. Definitely not for everyone but there will be some people who prioritize a lighter weight that will like these. I don’t dismiss these because of the price like I did with the Engage Pursuit Ultra paddles where there are many better options for cheaper.

    Random question but how does the Perseus 16mm compare to the original CRBN 1 16mm? Obviously I haven't bought a paddle in a while but seeing if its worth selling these and getting the Perseus. I like paddles that are whippy and fast to swing but have great feel to it.

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před 10 měsíci +1

      They have about the same sized sweet spot, the Perseus is a little lighter, and offers more power and spin. If you liked the crbn 1 then I bet you’d really like the Perseus. It would take a couple of sessions to get used to the little extra power but it’s not a huge difference from the crbn 1.

      @@KELOVE Not exactly better, but it's a good one. Depends what you're looking for. It's nice because it has great power but the standard shape naturally gives it more forgiveness and it's not quite as stiff as other 14mm thermos. I can control the Perseus 16mm better, though.

      Best of those 3

    • @pickleballeffect
      @pickleballeffect  Před 8 měsíci +1

      The Gearbox Pro power is tougher to control than the other two so most people will be able to manage the Perseus or the DBD better. I like the hybrid shape of the DBD which I think is a big part of what makes it so good, it gives you a little extra reach but is noticeably more forgiving than traditional elongated paddles like the Perseus.
