Liked the simple prototype design better imo
I agree. Feels too crowded.
YessâŠ.plain was better
100% agree, almost a little upset about this design, lol. Grey edge guard is nice though
Same
That shit was cool as hell
Probably last time Chris gets invited out to a paddle premiere Lol.
đ
Thatâs why we love him thoughâŠboy canât be bought
@@stephenhall7430 thatâs why his paddle reviews are the bestv
Great review as always. Buzz words a plenty in the product description. Swing weight adjustments
will be the next merchandising angle. You put so much into this content. Next level. 5.0+ review
Thank you for the honest review! I play with the 16mm Hyperion ( which is being sent back on a warranty claim at the moment) but I am looking at DBD now vs jumping on the Perseus.
Thank you for your time and posting. Also, showing games is a lot of fun.
You guys always provide great content. And you guys are very humble which I appreciate.
Another thoughtful and honest review! I actually talked to another CZcamsr at the Atlanta PPA and he actually said he can't do the same type reviews that Chris does because he works with some of the other brands that Chris will just flat out say aren't very good. I too was a long time Hyperion user and just got the Six Zero DBD, and it is amazing! The only thermoformed paddle I've tried to date that has anywhere near a similar feel and sweet spot. I will eventually try the Perseus, but my hopes aren't too high that it will be better than the DBD. Keep brining the honest reviews Chris, it's what you're known for!
Got my six zero DBD - amazing indeed!
How would you describe the differences between the DBD and Hyperion (both 16, I assume)?
Love your inclusion of swing weight...that definitely is more important than overall static weight. Great review!
âPerseus is an evolution, not a revolution.â Well said.
Another truthful review. Found the comparisons and mentions of other paddles helpful.
Love the honest feed back!!!
Hard pass @ $250. đ”đ”đ” Really enjoying my Ronbus R1 Pulsar. đ
Iâm hoping to pick one up soon. While i wait for a DBD replacement.
@@jpize I ordered the DBD waited 6 weeks and when I found out it would be at least another 2 weeks for it to ship/arrive I canceled it after I watched the first look and comparison reviews for the Pulsar that Chris Olson and John Kew released. My R3 arrived in 8 days and my R1 in the same time after it dropped. I went with the R1 (boils down to personal preference) but two of my buddies ordered the R3.
Picked up a Perseus 14mm Pre-owned on ebay, like new and added an over grip and lead tape at 9 and 3 o clock positions. It plays great! Amazing value being less than half the retail price.
Great and honest review. Mad respect!
I watched around the :51 second mark over 28x. In fact, it's become the video on my screen saver. Yes thats a real thing. I just watch you over and over on repeat. Amazing.
Iâm glad I didnât wait for this @$250 plus!!!!! Pulled trigger on a Vatic Pro Flash 16mm and never had so much fun with a paddle. With discount code got that thing for $130. This is a guy coming from a Hyperion 16mm.
great review and appreciate the honesty! kind of expected joola would play a bit of catch-up to thermos, while charging a lot more , but not really offering a lot more
Thank you for the review!
$150, legacy pro is ideal price for me. Two questions in mind after watching your review - 1) Why would they drop the rounded head shape and go back to the traditional one? Some feel rounded head would allow faster swing. 2) Wouldn't the texture in the center reduce the grit? I noticed legacy pro and carbon try to avoid any texture print on the center and they do provide excellent friction. Thanks!
Thanks for the honest review, that's why we watch and listen đGreat, great job đ
I have 2 Hyperion, I find this paddle a smooth ride. Nothing resets better. I have it dialed in at 10 oz , I placed all the weight on the handle. This changes the balance of the paddle making it more head light. At this weight the plow through is amazing, easy power, and because the weight is in the handle it is very maneuverable. Never had a problem with them breaking. Hopefully the Hyperion drops in price so I can get a couple more đ nice review thanks đ
You donât have a head light paddle by adding weight to handle you just have a heavier paddle that is slow at the NVZ. Dialed in at 10 ounces? You must be 6â5â and 270lbs.
@@godgunsandgoldens sorry Jim, but by adding weight to the handle you move the balance point. Give it a try , you'll be very surprised. Or live in the dark, your choice. Either way I don't give a crap. I'm 5'9" 190 and I'm 59 years old and not slow at the nvz. đ
I replaced my Hyperion with a 6.0 black diamond! Once I got used to the difference in feel and broke the 6.0 in I would have to say it's better paddle than the Hyperion. I definitely get more spin and can drive the ball much more effectively!!
I have a 6 0 , 14 mm on the way
@@brettbw1 i have the 6.0 DBD and love it in 14mm...i had the CRBN 1x before still in my bag
Good to hear, man it takes a long time to get a paddle!
I been using my broken Ben Johnâs Hyperlame for months
$250......I'm out, way better options for less money. Thanks for being honest in your review.
Solid review, super fair đđŒ
Edit: I forgot to add a section in my review on some small history of thermoforming. Everyone has been convinced Joola is copying all of the new competitors, but the original Hyperion was actually thermoformed as well (it just didn't extend into the handle). You can refer to my blog post here where I explain it more: pickleballstudio.com/blog/joola-ben-johns-perseus-review
what lead tape were you using? just curious. Width and space looks perfect
Is the Radius also partially thermoformed like the Hyperion?
Nah, you get the memes, my boi.
Briones code works along with some others. Guess they didnât like your review haha
Great, honest review. At $250, somebody has to pay for Ben and Colin endorsing its paddles!
I recently went to a SixZero DBD and an really loving the feel, and the price point. I am going to also try the Ronbus Pulsar R1 for comparison as it took some time to get the DBD and I always have two in the bag :) I really feel like some paddles are way overpriced in some cases compared to others of the same tech/manf process and performance. Thanks for the review...
Would really like to hear your comparison of DBD and Pulsar R1. They are the 2 paddles I'm considering but don't have a chance to try them ahead of purchase. Leaning toward Pulsar based on what I've seen/read but would appreciate any insights you have from your experience with them.
I'm in the same boat wanting to try the R1 pulsar as well, let us know if you do and how it compares!
I wonder if it would be worth stating the swingweight post-lead tape after you tune it to get a more uniform response across the face? Not necessarily your personal optimum weighting. I recall swinging a Swift - it had a lower SW but wasn't as stable as a standard Hyperion. By the time I leaded up the Swift, its SW felt about the same as the standard Hyperion I liked. I suppose the question is, was the Swift the better option to have the customization opportunity?
Love the honesty. Thanks for your advice. What racket do you use or recommend in the $200 range?
A slightly different take on delamination and paddles that do this. We all know that spin decreases over time as the carbon surface wears. Give me a good warranty (6 months or more) and a paddle that delaminates and I get to send it back for a new paddle with brand new spin. Just be sure to have an extra or that week turnaround on the warranty replacement.
Great review!
This paddle is what I expected it to be. I think the bigger news that no one is talking about is that Ben signed a life time deal with Joola. This is the first life time deal, and is huge for pickleball.
Best paddle reviews on the internet!
For high value, you should try out the Rogue 2 Players Carbon paddle (with weight added). I have three of them and can attest that I donât lack for power, spin, or control. All for $130! Worth a report, maybe?
Sounds like a good paddle but I'll still playing with my CRBN 1X 16mm and Selkirk Invikta Vanguard Power Air.
Thanks for your candidate review đđ»đđ»
Great review! đđœ
I Own both the Legacy and Vatic 7. Legacy is the king of top spin. I found the Vatic low on power and muted. My serves are also short. I have to put much more power into my shots. That said, Legacy is not a paddle for beginners. If you hit flat the ball will fly. Also, Legacy has a larger sweet spot. I expected more from my Vatic 7. But I will try adding weight.
That's funny cause I find just the opposite between my v7 and the legacy.
@What's Jeff Do'n Really. Most find that the Legacy has a lot pop. Too much pop is one of the common complaints. Never heard that about Vatic 7. Maybe yours is delaminated? Earlier batches had issues with that.
Haha. No delam.
Hi Chris- could you briefly describe the main difference between the Perseus 16mm and Selkirk 003 invikta? I have been playing with the 003 for about 2 months now and really like the control and soft game but starting to think I need more power. Thanks and keep up the great work!
Love your videos
Bud, we need to get you a travel steamer for that shirt ha ha. Love the honesty.
Itâs fixed for tomorrows video đ
Good review. Impressive that they got the swing weight down as much as they did for an elongated, thermoformed, edge foamed paddle. Although you should fix the swing weight value for the 16mm Perseus on your paddle stats page cause right now it's showing 16. What would that even feel like? =)
Solid video!
I love VATIC!!!!đđ
Great review overall. concerning the cost as a con ---I remember when indoor pickleball at YMCAs was $3 pp for 3 hours of play. When indoor tennis clubs began having PB and the cost went up to $7pp (now its $10)for 2 hrs there was a lot of complaining about the cost being too high. And there is a lot of price complaining here!. The cost variations are not that great. 10%.off = $225. just because your paddle costs $25-50 less means very little over the course of paddle life and whether it works for your game. But of course YOUR cheaper paddle is better...for sure.
Are any of the ProDrive Paddles foam injected?
Great video đ
What's the best for spin?
For those who likes a lighter paddle for hands battles, do you recommend only two lead strips ~0.2oz at the 4 and 8 o clock position and not put on the additional two strips at 3 and 9 o clock?
Worth switching from the Engage Pursuit EX Graphite?
The weapon I needed to propel me from 6.52 to 7.5+ DUPR đ
Usually agree with most of what Chris says on paddles we have both tried. On this one - like the ronbus when he originally said it was similar to CRBN 1x- he and I have to disagree. The Perseus is a 100 percent absolute winner. First who is it not for. Itâs not for people who love hot paddles and maybe this is why Chris didnât like it as much because he generally likes hotter paddles. Maybe he also got a bad prototype bc this thing doesnât have a small sweet spot. Itâs a little dead on bottom 20 percent as are practically every paddle. After 3 days and 9 hours I canât say anything negative about the sweet spot because itâs not a thing anyone Iâve played with or thatâs borrowed it has noticed. The resets he talked about with scorpeus I find easier with the Perseus. Dinks. Touch. Drops easy peasy. Iâve had one or two friends like the scorpeus and can really reset it. I found the 14mm scorpeus a little too reboundy or poppy for me. The Perseus was spot on. Itâs super light if coming from Hyperion but if liked Hyperion youâll love it. Mine is 7.8oz. Itâs the most controlled of the thermaformed Iâve tried. More so than ronbus pulsar R3P which I really like and is in my bag. Perseus is a control paddle with power def not power with control. The top 10 percent or so appears to be designed for juice as if line it up for the forehand blast or the backhand roll it will deliver a punch from the top of the paddle. But generally in the sweet spot itâs just an easy paddle that you can trust. Thereâs no second thought or hesitation at hitting a shot because of worry itâs gonna pop up or fly. You do you and the paddle will deliver what youâve asked of it. Went into a little more than skeptical bc of Chris mixed review but came out the other side thinking Iâm glad I took a flyer on it bc itâs staying in the big and is now my number one paddle.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
My scorpeus core crushed after 1 gameâŠ.got another and itâs solid.
Favorite quote from video. "Good shot "........ to Ben Johns
Have owned the Vatic Pro R7 for a few weeks now, have played numerous times and the paddle is holding up really well along with texture on the face. Would highly recommend.
Can you do a review for the master athletics P2XL paddle?
Sounds like I may stick with my SixZero. Do you personally add led to your SixZero?
Amazing video! Any plans on reviewing the bread and butter filth?
What brand of lead tape do you use?
I like how your net is high in the middle. LOL.
Hey Chris we need a CRBN 3x review! đđœ
Yes please!
They were supposed to send one a bit ago, I never got one.
I think Pickleball Effect has a written review up.
a lot of money for a rebranded legacy pro đ€·ââ
How are you testing spin rate, or is this from the manufacturer?
Great review again Chris. Discount code for Legacy Pro brings it in at about $130. Surprised itâs not one you recommend as an alternative given your prior outstanding review. For me itâs head and shoulders above any big name brands at a fraction of the cost. I have 3 and no delam after 5 months of play 3-4 times a week. Also have the LP pro S which is excellent IMO. Thx again for transparent review of the Persius.
Yeah Iâm sure legacy is much better than the perseus if these top pros played with the legacy they would love it if they live the perseus.
@@DallinTaggart agree. Legacy just doesnât at tis point have the pro sponsorship budget but I bet they get someone soon! Great paddles.
How would you compare the LP Pro vs the LP Pro S? I've been using the LP Pro since January and like it, even with the occasional over-poppiness I get.
I've been playing the Legacy Pro since mid April 6 days a week with zero issues. Love this paddle. For $135 (discount code), it's a no-brainer. See no reason to spend $250 for any paddle.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but legacy didn't fix the problem. I delaminated two of the new ones in less than 2 months. A friend of mine delaminated his in two weeks. Another delaminated 2 in 2 months, failed tests at APP Cinci badly. And 2 other friends delaminated the new ones in a month. But hey that's better than 7 days right?
Shouldâve kept the clean look of the prototype đ
Awesome video. You pick that US Open shirt right out of the hamper?đ
Where did you add lead tape on the paddle?
What do you think about the more flared shape vs the standard rectangular shape in general? Doesn't make much of a difference?
No noticeable difference for me.
Thank you for saving my money.
Great review and really great content. - T Mo
Do you have a running list of your current top paddles?
I don't, but that sounds like a great video.
Could be a running list linked in the description. Keep up the solid work!
@@PickleballStudio That would be a great video!
I love spending my money stupidly so Perseus here I come!
When is sweet spot going to have a way to quality area?
Seems like Bens paddle got some serious lead wrap.
Make a review on the crbn 3x plssssss
Detailed, great review as always đ
Now the question: what does it mean that paddle is âpoppyâ?
Itâs referring to how fast the ball comes off the face of the paddle when hit. Which doesnât always equate to more power necessarily, but can sometimes help w overall power depending⊠just an FYI.
@@braddaddis371 thank you for the clarification đ
Chris, is your spreadsheet on paddle spin rates available?
Yup! Should still be up. Added the Perseus stats to it just now.
At the price point how can anyone choose one of these over a Legacy Pro??
Great review Chris!
I'm wondering if they added less edge foam in the perimeter or one that weighs less which may contribute to why the swing weight is lower and you found the sweet spot to be smaller.
Itâs certainly possible. All trade offs though. Iâd thatâs the case, would result in a higher swing weight.
Why did they do away with the aero-curved shape?
Was waiting for this video so glad I watched it. Thanks for saving me 250$ my legacy pro Iâm sure is much better. Canât beat the sweet spot/ power/ and spin
Chris, there are things called irons or steamers... Looks like you got that rainbow jersey wet, squeezed it into a ball and then let it dry that way! đđ
Hahaha gotta keep you guys entertained somehow! ;)
Should be a perfect paddle at that price point lol
Where did you get the 3.5 at best T shirt?
My website
Are we speaking of swing weight at the NVZ. Isnât important to stress paddle concepts at play levels and location on the court.
Seems to me your comparison between Joola's Perseus and Six Zero's Double Black Diamond is a bit like apples and oranges. The Black Diamond would be a similar design to the Joola Perseus.
Iâm excited my dbd should be here in the next 2 weeks
my dbd just came two days ago and i was checking my email every single day. they dont send out tracking #'s unless you ask! 10/10 paddle i wouldnt wanna play with any other one
for my dbd they have said two weeks for a while now, ordered mine Apr 20, how about you guys?
I don't know if I could handle that anticipation! My buddy finally got his in and it's an amazing paddle. Probably the best out there now.
â @Luis Alberto Ordered my DBD April 1 and it arrived May 27 so call it 7.5 weeks. Shipped from Utah to CA.
I ordered a DBD on May 9th. They said I should get it in early July.
Are you planning on talking about the scorpeus too?
Planning to film a first look today.
3.5 at best!
Is it just me, or does the Vulcan net looked shorter in the gaps then at the center post?
Time to get a new net that doesnât look like a W with a high point in the middle đ
if you play indoors that is mostly what you will find.
It seems like you need to make your own paddle company đ
Hmmm I wonder if Ben will have the same attitude about delaminating paddles now đ
11/10 paddle review
1.7/10 shirt ironing
Darn, I was aiming for 3.5 shirt iron đ
@@PickleballStudio shucks I missed an incredible opportunity there đ€Šđ€Š

Random request. Chris could you possibly test out the new raw carbon variant of the Pro Drive? Iâm hoping that it might be an upgraded warrior
It just came in! Not sure when I can get to it, but Iâll try
@@PickleballStudio thanks I appreciate the reply. You are doing great things
Does Ben Johnâs uses the 16mm or 14mm?
Are you into custom keyboards? Whatâs on your desk? Looks nice.
I'm not, but only for the sake of my wallet haha. Otherwise I'd love to buy a bunch.
Currently I'm using the Ultimate Hacking split keyboard. Love that thing.
Waaaaay better on my shoulders compared to a regular keyboard. You can also do a ton of fun things with layer keys. Control the mouse, create a numpad, macros, etc.
