  • In this video, we look at two new nodes that were added to Blender 3.1. The extrude mesh node and the scale elements node. Two great nodes that work great together!
(Sorry for a little bit of glitchy audio in this video)

Thanks for showing the solidify workaround! It seems a step was missing, don't the original normals need to be reversed?
I would really expect that to be an option in the extrude node though, like "create caps", like a normal extrude command.

You are absolutely right! Just add a flip faces node to the original geometry before the merge by distance.

I wish I had more time to spend on all things Geometry Nodes, they're so much fun. Your videos should all be included in the Blender Manual. Very concise and to the point.

    Another great video.
One of the most interesting parts of the extrude node is the bit where you connect the index to control the length. Sure there are lots of other interesting ways to control that.

I just have one thing to say: Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for showing how to select specific faces, verts, and edges! I've been trying to figure that out for ages and have even wanted a highlight/select indicie node for selecting edges, faces, and verts. I can add that to my list of manual modeling tools with geometry node equivalents now.

I’m so glad it was helpful! So often it’s little things like that which get overlooked. If you make something awesome show me it on Twitter @johnnygizmo

Thanks for sharing this update. I can stop trying to recreate complex mode now and wait for feature parity with Solidify now I know it's in the pipeline. This really will be a game changer when it arrives. It's number 1 on my geometry nodes wish list. The merge node probably sits at number 2 on my wish list too.

personally I'd prefer if the individual tab on extrude was not true when node is created. It might cause some crashing or load with heavier meshes.

Would love a way to inset & extrude. Inset seems to be a big miss at the moment, I have been trying to replicate a relatively simple procedural workflow from another software :) and keep hitting snags due to missing functionality.
Love the work you guys are doing, and its getting there, just hope we can fix these last mesh building nodes soon. Keep up the great work and I also love the calm informative videos you do.

Is there any chance we can get dissolve verts node with selection, or decimate planar? Are there any plans for it?

Still waiting on the curve modifier becoming a node. It'll really save time to not have to scroll through 12 different iterations of the same thing just to change something before or after

@@JohnnyMatthews Nevermind, I somehow figured it out from the existing nodes. Though it does require an extra vertex group compared to the modifier. Though it's much better than the modifier for people doing 1 line of vertices at a time

Hello Johnny, Thanks for the great Geo-Node Content!
I saw that you are currently working on a Curve Curvature node!
That sound very interesting! Is there a build to test it already?

is it possible to calculate the curvature with a node setup using the current nodes available in Blender?

hello, when using the extrude and scale nodes to a grid node is there a trick to "apply transform" to have nice regular size extrusions and scale results even if you change size of the grid or other primitive node?

There is no negative in the offset slider of the extrude node.
    Is it a bug?
Works when I plug a value node into the offset with negative values.
