We take the lock apart, and take a look at the insides and re program the lock from scratch

After a local locksmith tore apart my lock and left me holding the pieces (quite literally) and claimed that "nothing could be done", I found your video and had it fixed myself in 10 minutes. Thank you.

Excellent video, saved me from buying another lock. You should note, this video is for DEAD BOLT. I have a Keyed entry knob and had to watch another video to get the lock out. Then this video helped me. Thank!

Bought a brand new deadbolt set and the original operating key that came with it didn’t work at all. This video absolutely did the trick.

Thank you for your brief and "to the point video". I lost my Key and brought my smart key cylinders to my local locksmith to have them re-key it for me and they told me that it cannot be done because it does not have "pins" like a regular cylinder, so I left. Then I called kwikset customer service and waited more than 30 minutes for someone to answer my call and give me the part number so that I could order a new cylinder with key. During my waiting time I found your video and re-keyed both of my cylinders in less than 5 minutes with just a small screw driver and paperclip. Thank you and keep up the good work!!!!
I was using the smart key when I dropped the pins too soon before keying the new key, then both didn't work. Your instructions were a huge help, thank you!

Works well! I missed the part that the groove must line up with five pieces, but that's on me. After rewatching this video, I got my Kwikset smartkey reset. Thanks!

Excellent video, helped me fix 2 Weiser Smart Key Handsets that were not working at all! In fact, they work smoother now than they ever did!
Worked great for me. I bought several door knob sets and accidentally threw out the keys for one of them. This saved me having to order a new core. Actually couldn't find a replacement core in the bronze color so I was going to have to install a silver core into a bronze door knob. Lol. Now I know how to handle this issue again. Thanks

I messed up re-keying my doorknob. Took it to Lowes and they said they didn't know how to fix it. Few minutes with your video and I had it fixed myself. Thanks for making this! Saved me from having to go around to other stores to try to find someone with the resetting tool.

If I'd seen this video before I bought the Kwikset Smartkey reset cradle, then I wouldn't have had to buy it.
Oh well, it is faster in the field, and I guess I don't have to worry about losing one of those little springs or pins.

5 years later this video is still making an impact. Thank you so much for posting. My lock just stopped working one day and I couldn't reset even with the bump key or master key. After watching your video I was able to disassemble the lock and reset all the wafer pins. Everything works great now. Thank you! 👍👍👍

Thank you so much. I have found dozens of the Kwikset mod. 911 with no matching keys, because Lowes and Home Depot gets charged 40-90 bucks to take the lock apart and rekey it again by a locksmith to make their customer happy.

Perfect. If you have a slightly different lock with smaller components, just be careful and follow thru exactly. It works.

thanks a million for the tutorial as the alternative was to buy a new lock simply to get the replacement core. Still not sure how the lock got set to random when I messed up the re-keying process. It was a lot easier then it looked at first.

Thanks for this! I did find it was easier to reset the pins, insert the key and then replace the pin plate. I found getting the pin plate to slide properly for rekeying didn’t work as well if I replaced it first before inserting the key. Kudos!

Very helpful. Screwed up the re-keying and had no working key. This was easy to do, and worked perfectly - AFTER I got the door off its hinges. ALWAYS HAVE THE DOOR OPEN when re-keying. Dumb mistake I'll not repeat

Thank you for the video. The process worked like a charm. I know the key I wanted to rekey to was not working prior, so I'm not sure why, but I put that key in just to see how it pushed the wafers up and I was able to slide the cylinder out; i.e. I didn't have to push the wafers down. It is a mystery.
