Omg thank you for posting this. I just rekeyed my lock and messed up. I was panicking and telling my toddler not to touch the lock. Your trick worked and I rekeyed it properly.
Excellent advice!! This helped fixed 2 locks that I hadn't keyed correctly... Didn't push key in all the way.
This saved me a bunch of time. The problem was that the key wasn’t all the way in when I reset it. Placing the key partially in allowed me to reset the key correctly. Thank you for making this video!

You got lucky. I've had this happen to multiple locks (I'm a landlord) and I KNOW I did the rekey procedure correctly and your fix (partial insertion and lots of jiggling) didn't work for me. The kwikset locks seem to glitch like this about 25% of the time when you rekey them.
I'm having this issue right now... Been trying to finagling with the key I used for a half hour.
I don't think it's luck. I just did this and it worked. I had to jiggle it a few times just to get it turned 90°. Once it turned I was able to redo the rekey operation and it works perfect
I had the lock in the wrong position when I started (up and down instead of sideways) and I think I’m out of luck to fix it
These locks are TRASH. I’ve done this about a dozen times with different locks, and know to be SUPER careful holding the key and going slowly. Still just got locked out 15mins ago with neither key working…. On about the 4th lock out of a dozen. Complete trash. And best part is- Locksmiths say they can’t pick them. They have to be drilled. For $100. DONE with CRAPset locks.

I removed my lever lock due to this problem then re installed it. I found the original keys it came with, then reset for my key. It worked again for five minutes. I'll try again. Thanks.

Will this tip work for one key that from time to time requires me to jiggle it to unlock the lock? I have to also slightly turn the door knob while jiggling the key.

So this is only for locks with the hole to insert the Smart Lock? My old knobs r so old, this doesnt work. Oh well, going to have to buy a whole new set. But thanks for the info. Unfortunately Home Depot employees dont tell u this.

What do you do when someone opens your door when you are in mid switch of rekeying n now current n new key doesn’t unlock the door?

I turn the key as directed to the left and insert the kwikset key tool.I do not hear any click. I try to remove the key and it will not come out.I tried it again with another video having you turn the key to the 90 degrees to the right and the same thing. I cannot pull the key out after using the smart key tool. What am I doing wrong??

The key is supposed to be turned 90 degrees to the RIGHT (not the left)....

you're supposed to turn the key to the 3 o'clock position not 9 when setting the new key
I think it depends on which direction your doors facing
@@Jarlzdotorg I've been a locksmith for 25 years. Turn to the 3 o clock position unless some bonehead installed lock upsidedown
