🤔 ABOUT LOCATION REBEL 👇
For the past 10 years at www.locationrebel.com I've taught people just like you how to build a lifestyle business and become a digital nomad. There are a lot of ways we do this depending on your goals, skills and interests, but some of the most common businesses are built around freelance writing, niche sites, affiliate marketing and blogging.
Our primary goal is to help you get to the point where you're making $3-5k a month as quickly as possible, because after that? You have options.
My name is Sean Ogle, and I'm the founder of Location Rebel. I'm a location independent entrepreneur from Portland, Oregon and I travel 3-4 months out of the year and take my business with me wherever I go. On this channel you'll learn exactly how to build a similar business and do it from some pretty sweet destinations as well.

I too was once told to sell a pen. I gave them a ten-step plan to improving their business (the content of said plan was waffle) and then asked them to relay it back to me. They couldn't. They would have if they had a pen.
haha nice one!
How’d it go?
🐐
1:20 your problem case's mistake is: outlining benefits, producer not customer oriented?
That's a good idea
One thing that I realized over the past month from learning about copywriting and that I NEED to build up my confidence and get over thinking negatively. It holds me back so much
this is two of us.
@@SRshinoda three of us
@@sj-nf9qf Four of us!
Did you build up your confidence?
@@SRshinoda did you build your confidence
Wow! FINALLY someone that gives examples and not just talking. Thank you! Needed to hear this!
Here I was thinking this video would give me a reality check and possibly discourage me once and for all from embarking on this career change. I was instead slapped with confidence and a reality check pointing out this is what I really want to do - thank you! :)
So... How is it going?
How is it going bro?
Yes, how’s it going?! Inquiring minds must know! It’s been 7 months. I just graduated with a Ba in English lit in December and got picked up by a copywriting agency in January (starting at a very low rate); barely minimum wage if you’re exceptionally quick. 4 months in, I managed to get picked up by another copywriting agency for a slightly higher rate and have had a few interviews for corporate copywriting positions that didn’t end up panning out. So with about 5 months of experience now, I am definitely making money but it’s hardly a living. However, I have a better grasp on what it’s going to take to get to the big bucks and it’s definitely possible but it won’t come easy. I hope this ia helpful to all the aspiring copywriters out there.
So how's it going?
It's because he is a good copywriter so he knows how to get our attention :)
Thanks that is actually possibly the most helpful and honest take on copywriting, more importantly it really clearly articulates the skills and focus you need to have when copywriting really clearly, it's not easy but it can be rewarding if you put in the time and effort to do it right.
Never had a moment where I wanted a pen so bad. 🤣
Man I love the content. I've been watching your videos and reading your articles for the entire day. I guess this was the kind of guidance I was looking for. Not only did I learn so much, I learned the things that matter the most. Very solid content.
i like how you use some sort of copywriting frameworks in the beginning. Including personal interest then "nontraditional" way and telling us that we are not who's gonna make lots of money and then offering us your 3 things( and this 3 things trick plays a lot too). appreciate it good job.
Great content! Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed how you didn't just say 'sell benefits' but you actually gave an example of a pitch that focuses on benefits. Thanks for that! I'll check out more of your content.
Sean, we have watched this video a few times over. Fantastic content, personal examples and advice. Keep up the good work.
Here is what i wrote :
(1)This pen is just incredible. It's unlike any other pen I've ever used. It's so smooth, and the ink just glides across the paper. Plus, it never smudges or bleeds through. It's like writing with a cloud!
(2)This pen is just incredible. It's so incredible, in fact, that you'll be able to write all your problems away! With this pen, you'll be able to tell your boss off, write a love letter to your crush, and finally get that book published. The ink is top quality, and the pen itself is just so darn comfortable to hold. So go ahead and buy one now - you won't regret it!
👏🏼 Get one for yourself and thank me later 😉
Second one is actually attention grabbing. And make me feel to buy it.....
Both of them are honestly trash, I don’t mean to sound rude but they really are. You need to sell the solution not the product. By the way you say it, it’s just a solution looking for a problem
Really appreciate *YOU* giving examples! That pitch letter was 🔥🔥
Hey Sean! Your video was very helpful! Short but very straightforward with vital details on copywriting. I’ve watched tons of videos on CZcams and by far your video is the one that helped me unstuck myself. Now, I know the right way to do better in getting a copywriting deal. Thanks a lot, it means the world to me. 👏👍
I like this video because you broke everything down, gave examples, good& bad,& then said how you can work your way up to copywriting if you don't at first have the skills.you didn't make no one feel bad.very, very good!
Exactly what I needed to hear!!!
The greatest thing here is that this entire video not only provides useful information but does what he talks about the entire time by promoting and getting us to visit and take his own product.
As always - telling us like it is with some real examples of where to start. Thanks for being such a clear source of accurate information. I appreciate you as a great resource for some of my clients!
-E
Thanks so much Elizabeth! Really appreciate the kind words :)
Great stuff dude. I always appreciate people who provide examples when trying to educate us about something
Love your content and very straight forward.
I clicked this video kinda terrified that it'd discouraged me form the trade... but it only encouraged me!! I think I possess all of these traits, and I think it's right up my alley!
Great content. Direct to the point especially for someone like me who's new to this writing thing. But it's a skill that can be learned.
I backed out fast on copywriting after doing regular writing as soon as I realized how conversational and persuasive it was. I need to practice on both of those fronts!! Thanks for the suggestions
I need help with finding real writing idk where to start
It sounds like the enhanced wolfstreet version of "sell me this". I really appreciate all efforts and energy behind. You've made such a genuine performance. Thanks for being concerned.
Thanks for the extra points! It's really helpful.
My first time listening. That pitch letter was very helpful. Thank You. PEACE!
Welcome!
Great video, I had been thinking about copywriting, you sold me on the extensive work involved. Thank you for your honesty. This was my first video from you and I'm looking forward to more.
Omg! This video is so criminally underrated! This was extreeeeemely helpful. Thanks a lottttt! Immediately subscribed
Thank you for this very valuable information. Freelance copywriting is something I have been wanting to do for a while now. You have given me the insight I needed to go ahead and take the plunge.
Thank you for taking the time to explain what it takes to be a successful copywriter.
An absolutely clear and understandable explanation of what copywriting takes. Loved your demonstrations of the wannabe copywriter versus the seasoned pro. I'm more encouraged than ever. Thank you.
Appreciate the info Sean! Really good quality videos
Thank you!
This video is of so much value to current and upcoming copywriters. You articulated this effortlessly. It came in at the right time as I’m kicking off my copywriting journey this year. Thank you for the great informative video. I will check your link and have a good read as well.
I appreciate you making this video. I am definitely working on the skills to do copywriting, and I know I can do it. The one hangup that I seem to have is finding a way to show results when I lack any physical evidence of it. You game me a couple ideas so far, but I plan on communicating to you guys at LRA further.
Thanks again, and nice video format!
Sounds good! A lot of the results really does come down to having the confidence you know you can do it. And after all, if you can convince someone to hire you in your pitch, then that in and of itself is proof you're able to be persuasive. Just have to have the confidence in yourself and your skills to know you can back that up.
I like the new format you are doing, good video transitions, and the music (can I ask where you got it from?). Very well done. Keep up the fantastic work and perfect examples.
Thank you! Looking forward to seeing where this goes.
Thank you for making this video Sean! I needed to hear this.
Wow! Thank you!! This is so encouraging
That’s probably the most powerful “sell me this pen” speech I’ve ever heard
Thanks for the advice mate. Glad that I watched this video
To sell something one needs to understand the emotions, pain points / gain points and needs of person buying their stuff.
To target the correct audience is the key point here.
No one buys everything, only those buy who needs it.
In Sales we pitch an idea exactly like the way you mentioned. Sometimes An idea irrelevant to the product you're selling works very well too.
I reached out to few things in sales that will work in every sales module
1. Find your dream audience
2. Do complete research on topic
3. Be problem solver
4. Give instant solutions
5. Trigger emotions
6. Get the results
this style you've developed is really engaging :D I really loved this one (enjoyed your previous as well but this was very fun, engaging and educational!)
I basically know all of this, but I’m still learning other things that I need. Thanks for pointing out the most important points to become a copywriter sir.
Sean, Thanks for this video. You always seem to have perfect timing because I have been really wanting to dig into Copywriting but questioning whether I have the skills. After watching your video, I know that I can do it. I just have to overcome my fears. By the way, I loved the cheesy example of selling the pen. It cracked me up because I have seen that so many times and that literally is how people try to sell it.
Zach! Thanks so much, this means a lot - and I think you can do it too. Just don't forget to practice (more on that in future video).
Hey Zach ! Did u started learn it , bcoz I also need to know it , I m little bit confused so I want to know did u??
Appreciate your suggestions
Thank you for this Sean.
Very helpful!!! Kick in the arse that was much needed 😊
Thank you Sean!!! As an aspiring freelance copywriter, working to build a strong foundation before I head into the great big world of copy, this video was essential. Your humor and obvious use of skill proving your points, really added sticking power to your knowledge. I will be returning to this video multiple times as a refresher of what I really need to succeed. Lastly, my favorite part of the whole video, talking to yourself... is this something everyone does as a freelance writer? HA!!! Love your stuff! *Subscribed* ~Charity
Great video, to the point, explanatory, insightful and yet entertaining/motivating
I so appreciate you!!! Thank you Sean
loved the video!!
I appreciate this video! I have been digging into getting into copywriting and this helped me move forward a little bit more. I love writing and I can sell ice to an Eskimo, so to speak, as I have a lot of sales experience as a hair stylist selling product while delivering fabulous service. And I am typically a positive/ optimistic person. Can you/ do you have a video on how to get started with copywriting?
That was clear, realistic with a peace of playful! Thanks my dear
This is the best copywriting lesson ever! Thank you!!
This was fantastic. Subscribed.
You're just amazing!!!!
Thank you so much for this.
Awesome video very helpful thank you 😀👍
Hey Sean, You also asked for comments on your new format. Mine is that this video was evidence that you're upping your game.
Your storytelling has always been healthy. It's one of the reasons I watch you. But you're starting to tell those stories visually with this example. I liked seeing you open the door to real film techniques. I think it can set you apart from the crowds of wannabes in this space.
The use of black and white with thoughtfully chosen filters was convincing - it created an illustration that aligned the audio message to the feeling of failure and demonstrated your point.
You've over-the-top correction in the pen story was hilarious - especially for those of us who endured the thousands of painful hours trapped in over-priced courses that encouraged exaggerated solutions.
I like this format and am keen to see how you grow it. Vlogging is overdue for the same attention to a good camera and editing techniques that copywriting needed when it moved from the paper letter to the web landing page.
I hope you keep discovering the opportunities for the film in vlogging and find the right point of creativity in a process that is still on the cusp of a new horizon.
Change this CZcams world, man. PLEASE!
David, man thank you SO much for this. This is the best comment I’ve received in a long time.
I’ve felt like I’ve had the potential and skills to up things for awhile, but mostly due to a lack of planning, and a little bit of laziness I haven’t usually done that extra 20% to SHOW rather than just TELL.
That’s the big thing I’m wanting to improve on - and I think it will go a long way.
As you mentioned, in the space of freelancing specifically there aren’t many people who have tried to jump in and do higher quality work. I think thats where I want to go - I just need to get organized enough to make a plan for it and execute.
May mean going down to 1 video a week instead of 2 for a little while. But I’ve been excited to start thinking about this more and to hopefully level up moving forward.
Thanks again for taking the time to give such good feedback.
@@LocationRebel Thanks Sean. I absolutely agree. It's quality over quantity. And I'm excited to see you produce the work it takes to do this job. I've loved video for sales for a long time and it has given me access to some great clients. Good film is a copywriter's muse. So from me - Follow your gut on this. It's good for pocket and the heart.
i love your view about new copywriters just like me, it helped me a lot.
This was so nice!!! The video felt like an interesting movie...learnt a lot as well
You hooked me at the pen. Subscribed you on spot. Well done 👍
This was an excellent video. Thank you.
I need to work on the confidence part. Great video.
Just stumbled across this video and I must say 'confidence' is what it takes to start pitching! My first paid content writing journey begun when I assure the customer with a simple sentence, how about I provide you a 500 words of blog post that align with your business in floristry & you can evaluate, then decide whether I am the right fit to be your content writer? He said, okay! And now, 9 months later, I am still with his business as a freelancer & he recommended me to his other business associates. Back then, I have no expectations of the outcome but simply crafting words to resonate with his pain point & voila! Not an easy journey being a freelance copywriter but each research is well-worth to spend time on and execute the flow with each clients! Thank you for this video, love it!
thanks alot, you just saved me alot of money. i was about to buy an online course. Not because of the first 2 reasons but for the 3rd. Im trying to start freelance copywriting from scratch and of course I have no results. I just came back from teaching business english in south korea for 6 years. better work on my small website and instagram first. keep up the good woik.
Wow wow wow, the example of the pen really makes me realize a lot of things that I can't find in other videos. Thanks so much!!
its like car commercials
This is simply great and amazing way to teach newbie like me. Thank you.
I liked this video format, it's engaging and fun. Also love the reality checks. I'm in the CopyHour course right now (day 4) and it's definitely a lot of work. Also reading Influence, which is great. I've never been a sales person...but I kind of like it, lol.
Sandi that's awesome! Those are two of the very best things you can do to get better at it, so you;re on the right track!
Qq
Thanks Sir!!
You really did a nice job with the pen pitch... (Nigeria)
Great advice.
I can do all of those things! Thanks!
I need that pen! JK but yes this is a lot of help, great content! Keep it up. You got a new subscriber
Great video!
Loved this
The video was so brilliant it persuaded me to think of writing .... as for some reason, I always write interestingly and persuasively ..people comment ..must try the exercises .. so good, thank you.
I wasn't sure about this video when I saw the thumbnail 😅, but after Im finished with the video,I'm pretty sure this video is a reality check ✅
You got me sold on the pen lol. Love your videos. Thank you,
This is so endearing and compelling.
Thank you!
I swear this video just gave me life. The intro was hilarious! I swear the power of the pen. Let's ✍
I loooove it !
Very good!
Well balanced video👍
these are things I learned in a few weeks that‘s no dealbreaker
I feel like I'm in an awkward space. I've gotten a few freelance copywriting gigs but I've never been privy to the results of my work.
Have you asked your previous clients how well your copy worked
Maybe you need to be charging commission as well as flat rate... imo it's only fair you be compensated according to how well your work does. If your client makes an extra £100k from your piece, surely it's worth more than just the... £1k or whatever you charged them? Monthly commission! You deserve it and it's only fair!
Awesome!
I must have that pen!!
wow😂😂😂
with learning... I really enjoy this video... the way, you adopt to explain is not just easy but also understandable and enjoying❤❤
thanku❤
Given the amount of time that one must put into copywriting or any other real profession, would you say it's not the best job while writing a book? Those clearly selling copywriting (interesting how often they have paid services as well) don't say this stuff. What do you think? I have a writing history and I wrote copy for screenplays (that actually did get the green light) at Sony pictures as an intern in film school. So, is copywriting good side work? Or a more all or nothing, unless you're gifted with the sales ability using words, like yourself? Not to mention a lot of research added, which might be ok. Any thoughts? And, thank you for the very honest video! Audrey
The 5% was the 95% in the old day
KEEP TRYIN'!!!
I really love your video
The pen thing...
A copywriter will start with asking questions to determine if the customer needs a pen in the first place.
Through the question, he will know what type of customer he's dealing with, and what will push their buttons. Their desires and dream outcomes or the pain they want to be rid of.
And then start doing what you said.
I believe you skipped the most important part of the sales process. Don't you think?
The point is not to sell the pen. The point is to find out if and why they need a pen and help them realize it themselves.
The pen sales pitch was so good haha .
Damnnnn I want that pen 🖊 🤣 you killed that ish! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾❤️
The title got me hooked so bad
You better sell that pen. That was great!
You have great marketing skills !!!
I am learning about copywriting, i love writing in general but as someone who really have problems with commercials and the way they sell things or the annoying way to convince me to buy smth I don't want to, i have no idea why i want to try taking a step in this career but i want even tho the fear of sounding cheesy or cringy while trying to buy something or writing a header for example.. anyway this video was helpful and funny to see a tiny glance of how it works!
❤ this video. Funny, valuable and enterteining. 50 yrs old beginner here. Looking for training course. Is there any course you can recommend?
Dont you need to pitch for other types of freelance writing too?
Did you learn VSL from Jon Benson? Because your opening to your video reminds me of him A LOT.
