Former blogger here - I worked for one company. That ran about 15 blogs. We published 20 - 50 pieces of content a day. 8 different writers with backstories - Instagrams - Facebook's. It was all me. I even posted comments having conversations with my self as the different writers / random readers .... All bullshit.... 30% of the interactions on FB /comments on the blogs were real people .... The rest were me and my coworkers.
hahaaha
Wait, why? To sell ads? Products? Sorry, haven't watched the whole interview yet so maybe it's answered
I can usually tell when a CZcams does this, and yes, I can tell that 70% of the comments are written by the same person.
I can tell that one major CZcams that has taken over everyone's algorithm lately does this.

@@dudewhodoesdopeshit i don't like naming names when i can't confirm it, but I alledge ANDREW TATE!!!!
I alledge he has an army of people writing comments on his behalf as per his instructions.
I did door to door sales very briefly. On my first day I carpooled with two guys who were supposed to show me the ropes. The guy driving unironically played audio of a speech from Wolf of Wallstreet to motivate us. After that he played Gordon Gecko's greed is good speech followed by Alec Baldwin's speech at the beginning of Glengarry Glen Ross. It was obvious that he completely missed the point of what these scenes were meant to express. His misreading of them was cartoonishly absurd, yet it emboldened his #grinding mentality.
Sup Oki.
Did you snort a gram each to "motivate" you and reach your sales goals?
Must be good to sell grinding your teeth...😅🤣🤪.
What a douchebag squad leader
Oki! How about a new video? It's been a couple of years. Always looking forward to your stuff.
Yes please - a new video 🤗 on another note if you’ve been in the trenches you know how many sales people take what is satire and use it as motivation 😂😂😂 personally guilty myself ✋🏾

Yeah, right after getting off the shock of him looking like Dan Bilzerian, that was my focus. Aww!
That’s not a pup. It’s mid sized dog at least.
Yeah yeah yeah, he looks like Dan and yeah he has a great friggin beard, but is no one gonna talk about that marvelous dog? Homie is chillin like the goodest of all boys in the back
Shit I didn’t even see the dog before I read this comment. What a good boi
I thought the same thing!!
He drugged the dog actually.. this was in the news and everything.
@@Jeff-jl2xc context? What do I search to get the who thing??
I'm gonna start this comment by saying I have autism.
Anyway, if I see a pet in the background, particularly the lower part of the screen, sometimes I get so zoned into the doggo or mew that I zone out of what's being said. So I have to put the subtitles on to cover them up so I'm not counting the seconds until they twitch or something. I love fuzzy inside creatures (and outside creatures too) so much. Every day I marvel that my cat is actually real. A living stuffed animal who just walks up and wants to sit on my lap and I'm so honored. She's such a good girl
This guy is very aware of the toxic ideology in these self-help circles. Almost everything he says makes me feel relieved that someone else is aware of that as well.

A big timer guru actually admitted to the fraud in this industry! I was on a "training" a while back with a guru. This was about 4 years ago. And the guy was teaching people to build a list and send them offers from click bank. He was talking about the weight-loss niche and someone asked about the list drying out after one purchase since these people would've gotten their solution and he literally admitted in explicit words, that these offers don't work so they'll always be looking for the next things. These people will push out shitty products, preying on people's insecurities just for commissions. Ethics are the last concern for these shit heads.
Wow. What is amazing that those people stand up and have a platform to speak out. I get it that I can be very hard because of the income. Coffee you are building a unique front line to the bullshit we see in this world. And not only in sales but in the overall state of human greed I notice every day. Very grateful for your content.

One of the more important videos on your channel. Jim has shared a lot of what goes on in the direct response copywriting world.
This was really eye-opening, especially the way he said they pile on claims, so something that isn't true becomes credible... I don't think of myself as being gullible, but that tactic in the right context could maybe get me! (like coming from a brand I already trust). It's crazy how you can influence people just with rhetoric. Thank you, aside from the fake guru sphere, this is quite a good reminder to be critical with regular ads
I never really comment on YT videos, but I had to comment on this one. Everything is so spot on! Everything from the forced positivity to the scammers being scammed themselves and actually falling for their own bullshit. I've seen the vicious and addictive cycle in people I know. I was in it for a few months but realised what was happening so I stepped away and opted for a slow organic blog where I just write about whatever I want.
I wish everyone could watch this video - the cult is growing and it's sad seeing these people get sucked in and suck others in.
The Napoleon Hill thing is spot on too. Such a conman.

Awesome vid, thank you for spreading the message!! Wondering if I should contact you 🤔
This channel deserves a Netflix series 🤙🏼
A story is not told to make people believe that the story is true. It is to tell people, ' hey, is this your story?'.
But yes, stories in some commercials want people to believe that the story is real
People buy things from people they trust & relate to ** Who would buy from someone who is clearly fabricating a story... The story has to be believable that w.e challenge occured, has been overcome..more than likely by or with the help of the "product" they're trying to sell you. "hey, is this your story? Hey, is this your truth?... Cause if it is, then you & I are both alike, and if it wasnt for this product I have here today, I wouldn't be standing in front of you now. Remember the story?"
Every time I see an ad like that in my email, I get instantly pissed off. Insulting to the intelligence of a reasonably prudent person.
And to think that these stories, not only drive most conspiracy theories nowadays, but also political beliefs themselves. Like majority of what is dividing society is not even the politicians, but the very bs created by a bunch of scammers looking to make a buck. Like lets put our differences aside and realize that majority of our conflicts, were simply started by a bunch of desperate scam artists, not even some secret elite force or crap, but simply bunch of desperate mediocres looking to make a buck by turning a simple snake oil sand on a beach sell, into a whole cult and political campaign. All because some scammer told a story... to make a quick buck...
Love the warnings about the smarmy, scammy companies - so helpful and saved me probably thousands of dollars. Thank you! On behalf of my husband and 4 young kids. I was on the cusp of falling into a couple of these traps. Could you please do an episode on legitimate, ethical Cooywriting practices and resources we can learn from or go to that won't suck us down a rabbit hole? I have a legitimate academic writing background and got additional training for grant writing, specifically, when I worked for a legitimate non-profit. There are great organizations with ethical standards in that space that help protect organizations, foundations, and writers. But there are none or they are hard to distinguish in the Copywriting space. Especially now with content becoming the monolith...
There are books by marketers etc. that are worth the $12 or audible credit you might spend on them - times 10.
Can you highlight to good guys in an episode so we know which one's we can trust?
Kudos to this work you do as scams are getting soooooooo common online. I'm grateful for it.
Thank you. May this channel meet much more success.
This is too amazing - right before this video, I got an ad about a course teaching you how to create your own course!
I'm so glad you exist!
You are helping so many people!
I love this guys story telling and voice impressions!
very good interview. copywriting is the core of marketing, its like formulating an algorithm for the triggers for people; 'how do we get more people to spend money'. i equate it to the same thing that the highest paid 'algorithm-programming' people at google/facebook/tiktok do, which is essentially figure out 'how do we get people to spend more time'. Its a power. And as all power, its a double-edged sword.
Although I don't know much about your business John Crestani, you do have a good point. By the way... am I the only noticing Jim's slurred speech? I kinda feel bad for him, he comes across as being under some sort of substance, and also, maybe he is a disgruntled employee? And Coffezila, I like you and you are talking about others being exploited, but you also come across as exploiting Jim here as well in a way... Just calling it like I see it. There is a little bit of truth to everything my friend.
@Horatio D I keep saying
@@alexsevilla7849 he spoke very clearly in my opinion - I don't notice any slurring personally. He made very cogent points and exposés as well. A quite put-together fellow; whether on some substance or not.
@Horatio D The whole "working from home" or "holiday lifestyle" comes from people who built real businesses and eventually palmed off the responsibilities while staying as a shareholder in their business (making money for nothing, other than the blood sweat and tears of getting the business to that point). Anyone who thinks they can make millions on their laptop without any effort is fooling themselves.
To that point, I was going to write a book about building businesses properly (to achieve that lifestyle) however it would be too technical and probably wouldn't do well as a book - maybe someday.

As a copywriter who actually works in this industry, of course there will always be those that just say whatever to make sales... But if you conduct business that way, eventually you will get shut down for it. Real companies out there have legal teams that go through and make sure everything is ethical and true. There are a lot of great companies out there that do it the right way. Don't just fall for the fact that everything is a scam or everyone in marketing is liars.
If you work in THIS industry Im not sure what youre talking about its wall to wall scams I've worked in it. Copywriting and marketing isnt scammy by nature... but these clickbank scams are.
NOT TRUE. The legal compliance teams form the largest part of the fraud. Can't find the link now, but IIRC, when finance and health got more regulated, the result was that the misrepresentations continued, but in a way that complies with formal regulations.
Basically all finance/health copywriters lean towards being unethical. We have an incredibly small number of truly reliable financial instruments, and you should only be buying health products that you REALLY NEED. So we don't need big new financial opportunities, and any health products we buy we'd have acquired with or without excessive advertising. While people are always looking out for financial opportunities, the truly valuable opportunities cant be packaged up and offered to every Tom, Dick, and Harry. So it's BS.
I dont think anyone was saying that copywriting is a scam. They literally said these scumbags are burning bridges behind them until they crash and burn
I don't think everyone in the industry is a scammer.
But a REALLY good tell is when someone goes onto a video SPECIFICALLY talking about the scammy ones to get defensive and go "Well it's not ALL of us!"

This was an awesome interview. I cannot believe it's taken this long for me to start seeing these conversations happen in public.
I've worked in digital marketing for 7 years. When I was starting out I had a similar experience as Jim. I worked at a guru-focused ad agency (also located in a basement) that was shut down by Facebook's lawyers just a few months after I started. I did advertising for a number of gurus on my own and even did some work for Agora for a little while. Thankfully I've moved on to bigger and better things...

Fun fact about stretch claims and ethical statistics. You know the shower conditioners that say "now with 87% healthier hair after 3 weeks" or whatever? They're definitely implying that their conditioner is 87% better than the competition, but if you read the asterisk, those numbers are usually from an in house lab and are comparing that company's shampoo, conditioner, and deep conditioning treatment to just using shampoo by itself. So. Yah. Your hair's gonna be healthier if you condition it. Thanks.

Every coin has two sides. Just choose the good one. Take a look at Stefan Giorgi
Have a service or a product that adds value to someones life that people wanna buy and market it with the FACTS of why it's worth what you are charging.
Anything other than that is a waste of time.
@Tanner Lewis It's one of the most useful skills you can learn, if you think its a waste of time you're only hearing from Agora or Raging Bull or all the other stupid companies who use its power to manipulate and steal from vulnerable people.
Copywriting is the foundation for marketing, if you learn it and you want to get into business you're going to be miles ahead of everyone else. Someone has to know it in your company at the least, its a mandatory skill (or hire a marketing team)
If you've created a product and/or service on you're own, copywriting can net you a good return. Definitely not a waste of time.

It doesn’t have to be a scam or used in a sense that’s scamy. It’s writing a sales page to get somebody to buy a product. It’s marketing. You don’t have to lie or be fake about it.
