Leg day? Never heard of that.
lmao
Pew pew

maybe some
Everyday is chest day bruh, train legs when you walk
he has long legs that's probably why, but i'm sure he has good legs ;) don't judge that quickly
I don't know what is tighter, those tires around the rims or Jonathan's t-shirt?
Probably jonathans t shirt
What??!! What bout dem jeans?!! 😂 #drainpipes
The jeans definitely!
May as well just start presenting with no shirts on at all.state of them sleeves.
I can't breathe
I'm not a fan of those rims, but they somehow remind me of the rims found on early 90s touring cars.
I think the rims are heavily inspired by the two most famous rims used on the mercedes 190e dtm car. I can't remember the names, but i'm sure they were OZ's
I hate the looks of those wheels
They remind me of gymkhana
Elmer Matthew me too
i hate the look of them but it aint my car personally id go for something more stealth
I wish wheels and tires would have been changed before suspension! Just to serve as a proof that the easiest tuning you can do to your car is changing your tires to better ones.
I don't know why people are buying crap tyres anyway. Anyone want less grip?
Some people do not know any better, some people simply don't care.
I have a good example, a colleague, very passionate about old cars, but not necessarily passionate about spirited driving. He buys the cheapest all season tire he can find, his argument being that he drives rather slowly, so he won't benefit from the added grip. I tried to explain to him that those few meters of braking distance could make a huge difference in certain situations, but to no avail.
Chris Hart I use budget tyres on my daily driver, it grips the road very well in both the wet and dry at road speeds. I have no reasoning for extra grip because I'm not thrashing a 115hp Volvo on public roads. If it can cope with 50+mph cornering speeds, it's good enough for me. On my 310hp Golf however, I run Toyo R888s because that car does get thrashed around the roads and grip is the most important thing.
It's not that "most people don't know any better" it's that their car will rarely ever be going fast enough to struggle for grip on the first place.
But is not all about lateral grip. I find that most benefits come from the reduction of braking distance. Your Volvo could be benefiting from that if cornering speed is not a concern. And you don't actually need to go full on and spend a fortune. Sometimes, spending 20-30% more can buy you a much better product. Valid for a lot of stuff, not just tyres.
Exactly. When I bought some alloys with budget tyres my car handled much worse. Braking distances was the biggest difference as it would skid out much sooner
Amazing edit as always guys, much fun filming! It's getting go the close to the m3 (which is now fixed....)
You look strong!

The aftermarket rims egh 🤢
@@CarThrottle Alex can you post a link to what trolley jack you use?

A Zsiguli azért jobb szerintem ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
an uncontrolled variable in this series is you are becoming very familiar with the 330D on the same track...that accounts for gains beyond what the equipment upgrades are capable of.
the E93 M3 drivers needs the same cuts at the track to contoll this variable.
I'm sure they know that seeing as this is promoting the parts for sale in their shop
And the m3 is his personal car so think he's pretty used to it
Can we start a gofundme to get Tyre Reviews some bigger clothing?

indeed haha, not enough leg day.
don't forget the forearms like he did.
For the next series, can we have some professional timing equipment as opposed to an iPhone? You know, for some reliability?
I think it's a pixel 2 actually

Dude! I love this series!! So pumped when you upload a new one!
Love the wheel choice
You need a wooden splitter at the front, that makes 330D's much faster. :P
It does. But only if penistone oil is used in the engine
Ahhh the ol top gear builds. Loved them so much
Dont forget to fuel up breakfast and try our English Muff-ins
love these series
How to beat an e92 m3 around the track you ask?
Buy a Prius
Topgear thinks otherwise. The actual Topgear i mean.
Didn't top gear show a M3 getting better fuel economy at a track than a prius?
Dude the M3 gets better mileage than a Prius lol
Ollie Crofts
Bud, you got it the other way around! Probably this works better and is more accurate:
"How to beat a Prius' fuel economy at the track you ask? Buy an e92 M3!"
Endurance race?
This series was great to watch and very informative! Especially the top-on-bottom showing the interior steering inputs, nice
Great series... really enjoying the progress so far! Well done...
Love the videos! A few thoughts:
1. The fifteen52 18" wheel may be lighter than the stock wheel, however, a high quality flow-form 17" wheel (e.g. APEX ARC-8) will be even lighter, further reducing unsprung weight and increasing performance. Tires are also cheaper. There is a reason the SPEC E46 racing series uses 17" wheels. 18" wheel may look better, but will not perform better than a lighter 17" wheel. You may be able to drop a little more time going with a 17" wheel.
2. BMW does use staggered tires with their M models, but that does not necessarily mean its the better choice. Going with a square option is much more beneficial on track, as it greatly reduced understeer that plagues pretty much ever BMW chassis. Additionally, if you track your car often, you will want the ability to rotate your tires and increase their longevity. Not something you can do with a staggered set. Unless you are pushing a ridiculous amount of power down and need to extra grip in the rear, square is the better option in my opinion.
I think the best setup for the E46 chassis would be a 17x9" ET42 with 245/40-17 tires, that way you can maximize sidewall support with a 9" wheel as well as rotate and reduce understeer.
Keep up the good work!
wow i didn't know he was that tall... or you so short =X
Alex is short.
Short but one hell of a driver.
Think Alex is about 5ft 7, the other dude is probably around 6ft 3
Damn dude chill alex didnt do nothing to you
LoL.. was gonna write the same thing about his height, but i have too many bad comments lately so I skipped it :)
Great series, guys. Thanks for this. I love the logical progression of attacking the weakest aspects first. It's awesome what well thought out improvements can do, rather than throwing bags of money at it. Cheers!
loving this series !!!! I've been looking at some kw coil overs and nankangs. but now I'm gonna look at some new wheels to. one of the best channels on here "bravo!!"
I really hope to see this car turning into a serious tract weapon. Let's see some serious mods on it Alex!
Colonic Irrigation
I like fifteen52 wheels but they are heavy. Interesting choice in staggering the wheels. My m3 is a staggered set up but always thought squared was faster on the track.
General square is better but the car has to be setup for it, in the last video after the coilovers the car was very loose at the rear so would benefit from a wider rear tyre as an easy balance fix, likely the coilover spring and damper rates were setup for staggered tyre setups and without adjustable damping you can't tune it out
The split-screen comparison from inside the car (at 12:26) was a brilliant idea. The tire-suspension package really did make it easier to drive fast.
Really enjoying these, nice too see some real world testing... not too techy but enough detail given. Excellent
Makes vid sponsored by michelin-
Literally the next day "here are my nankang ns2r's"
Michelin ad guys were like "wtf man?!" Lol
WTF is a nankang? Chinese tires?
Don't you have access to Google? They're Taiwanese
I looked up some reviews, just don't drive them if it's wet!
Ben what is 90% of days per year in UK 😂
Weight loss will be the real time saver on such a short circuit. Especially against the lard-arse e92.
Hope they do a hard core weight reduction, removing everything, bare to the metal, with just 1 racing fixed back bucket seat.
Just to point something out, the e46 is heavier then the 'lard-arse' e92
It's also a diesel family estate. Not an M car.
Doesn't make the e92 any less of a fatty.
@@MrCourty89 The E46 touring is about 1590kg (unless its a 2000 model in which case its 1615kg). That diesel is about 100kg heavier than the petrol versions too. The E92 M3 is 1655kg... by comparable EU "kerb weight" specifications.
Gotta be super careful what numbers you read and from where as the EU/US have incompatible numbers. Here is a good breakdown on the concept for you: f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=919364
Finally, the E92 is called a lard-arse because it's not only heavier, it feels significantly heavier to drive over the older generations. The comparable manual E46 M3 coupe is 1470kg, making the E92 about 185kg heavier. That's roughly 12.6% heavier; which is a lot of weight.
And it's only natural. Each generation of every car gets heavier due to newer safety regulations, more kit and whatnot. Hell, even the little M2 is 100kg heavier than the E46 M3...
This series is fantastic. Top notch CT
I am really digging this series. Keep up the good work!
How much difference does a LS swap make to lap times?
Jonathan, you should do a shoulder day.
Fantastic series so far! It's amazing how much you can gain before even thinking of touching the engine.
John really nailed it about the tyre-ology. Wish I had him when I changed my tyre.
Change your rtab to a spherical joint .. most important mod to any e36-e46 chassis regardless of engine .. it reduces flex on the rear so wont be affecting toe mid corner . Relatively cheap mod to do 150euro would get you a pair
This is the 2nd time I hear about this mod, it's pricey but I think I want to try it as it got my attention. Luckily I still haven't bought poly yet so good timing.
@@Rusiputki loads of brands make them . Its basically a bearing in a metal cage .. obviously a nice alignment it needed and its amazing

Love this new series!
Gotta get a remap on it, easy power for a 330d....or any turbo diesel now-a-days
Hello tyre review guy!
I'm loving this series 👍🏻
Fantastically informative!
what i learned from the tall guy- never skip leg day.. nicely developed legs will make better laps
Nankangs? The only tyres I've ever owned that were A: impossible to balance as they weren't the same diameter all the way round (you could see the variation when spinning them while the car was jacked up) and B: just gave up providing grip if it was even slightly wet!
Oh and those rims are hideous.
I have an e46 330i cause I live in America but I still use a lot of the stuff that you do on here to make my car better and I love how y’all actually get on track
Great Video!!! Greetings from Panama City, Panama!!!
E46 330Demon
Need the red light and all to make it look like one.. just get something
First of all with that diesel you needed to chip it and scrap dpf and catalyst
doesnt have a dpf
Curious Drone I mentioned m57 engine, wich had dpf or cat or dpf+cat, not this 330d. First of all you needed with all of them to get them breath easyly and get more pressurr from that turbo, measure before and after that and then suspension and tyres. He did it exactly like in TopGear with that VelSatis, I bet he will chip it next series
yep, with exhaust and stage1 remap you can reach 270hp / 520nm. huge gap in performance.
You might want to read the comments from the previous episodes...
This series has taught me so much already and when I’m old enough to drive I will start my own project

These new wheels looks aweful imo !

Those wheels & tyres look absolutely dope!
when you're not really first but still say it in the comments
lighter 17 inch wheels would be better for this car
The explanation was pretty poor tho...
Hmm you think? do you have made your own experiences?
The differences would be very interesting
True. Most E46 race cars have 17 inch rims. There must be a good reason for that
Agreed, and a square stance.
True. My 330ci race car drives fastest on 17 and square at Zandvoort
I love this series..!
Gareth looks awesome with these wheels !
Hideous wheels, but i guess it doesn''t matter, this aims t be a performance build after all. But... OMG, those look bad, LOL.
Edit: Wow, nice time, though.
Leg day? Never heard of that. It' s always Track day. That's why his arms are so muscular because of twisting that car over the track.

Awesome project. Really like the way you goes to beat m3.
Last time i was this early, the 330D still had stock suspension.
so like... a week ago?
Wrong channel XDD
This isn't vinwiki
The difference in width is quite big honestly .. 255 at the back is good for reducing the oversteer but 225 up front is way skinny and means less grip and more understeer just like what u did on that last corner ..
Abdelhameed Alotaibi you can just squeeze 235’s under the front of an E46 but it’s marginal, 225 is realistically the limit.
Simon Rook yeah the difference between 225 and 235 is marginal i do agree but with the 255 at the back it does have an effect .. the way its set up now is like a muscle car , a lot of grip at the back for straight line acceleration but in corners its bad ..
@@abdelhameedalotaibi3657 more grip at the back is very welcome with the power this car has.
Agree! They should try 255 on the front, bmw 3 series is all about the front end grip
@@r129r16pfl just put trays on the back that really spices things up

Now change
- gearbox oil( also add a bit of additive)
- diff oil( add some good additive to itl
- engine oil( ravenol rup for example or redline 5w40)
- flush the break fluid
Additional stuff to do
- clean the inlet manifold and inlet chambers from all that egr sut
- remove the dpf
- deaktivate the egr
All that should bring 1 sec. At least
Like so he can see... Especially because that is easy stuff for us to do and he can proove if it really works...
First thing is to add a strut tower brace... should have been added with the coilovers. It's the first thing I did to my e39 540i M sport suspension. Then added 19" staggarred wheels, 285/35 back and 245/35 front.

Great series, cant wait until you add more POWAAAAAAAA!!!!!
I really like those rims. They look awesome!
235 tyres in the real and front would be better for this track
I completely agree. 235 square would have been more sensible than a 225/255 stagger
I dunno -- he said that the rear was a little loose in the first two runs, so a square setup would've been worse.
BarracksSi too less camber in the front. See the last video about the suspension.
Seems obvious that decent tires would make a car faster.....
Yeah no shit, but it's fun to find out how much exactly isnt it?
Quicker not faster.
Faster through corners, quicker is the same I guess?
I've fallen in love with those wheels!!
Brilliant, Lovely Jubbly.
