- I work with Gameranx and make the majority of those Before You Buy videos you might see. Here's how we came up with the idea and how we approach making them.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've been influenced by a before you buy. One of the reasons I try to watch all of them. The other one is that I love the editing style lol

On top of that, even if they are not fans of the series or enjoy the type of game. They give an honest opinion from both view points and approach it unbiased.
@@JakeBaldino one of those things that always attract me is that wonderful title animation(lower third) used to showcase game title and release date. would be happy if u provided those to fellow creators who view your video, as after effects template or something.

That's such a negative goddamn way to put it. I just want to know what I'm getting before I play a game so I can choose which one I want to play next. And there's nothing better than the Before You Buy videos, they don't try to tell you what to think and they're made by real gamers not out of touch journalists who don't even play games any more like the joke that is IGN, they just show you what's up and let you make your own decision.

I love the BYB thumbnails. There's something comforting about them always having the same format, and it's fun to see what image you paste onto them from each game.
i 100% agree, it's also nice for my lzy stupid brain to be able to just easily tell which video i should click when i'm scrolling haha... although as he said he's usually not too far down :)

I still load up the settings first before anything else.

I never agreed with him on certain point of views but I think we can all collectively agree that he helped so many indie game studios and helped us with not wasting our money.
@@braxinIV Same, I even do this on PS5 along with my PC games. I go straight to seeing the settings, if there's no motion blur toggle I immediately look up a fix.
Glad you never change the thumbnail and I always get a sense of comfort seeing it. Its always quick and easy to find at a glance in the sea of over the top thumbnails of other channels.
As a medical student very frequently studying 10-12 hours a day, watching "before you buy" is one of the best distractions of my week. I appreciate the good/hard work Jake, keep it up!

“Before You Buy” and AngryJoe’s “Angry Reviews” are the only review videos I actually pay attention to
Angry Joe's reviews are my 2nd go-to as well. Love his skits. But sometimes his fanboy-ism just shown and I can't be more disagree. One example is the Last of Us 2 review.
I love the Before you buy show! Even tho most of the time I've already got the game 😂
Sometimes you have opinions that you need validated! Or at the very least confirmation that someone picked out some of the small things you did
I like that Jake is just a guy who loves games and loves sharing games with everyone. Makes the reviews feel more genuine and not like just someone’s job like IGN tends to be sometimes.
I love how unpretentious the Before You Buy videos are... just some straight up gameplay and real thoughts from people
who love games. Gameranx is an awesome channel!
I love the "Before You Buy" videos because even if there is some sort of trendy negativity circulating about a game or a company, you acknowledge it without falling into the toxic loop that many other reviews seem to.
The hold up let me kill some bad guys is iconic.

I just love the thumbnails for "before you buy". It's so simple yet so perfect, and oddly enough.. Most characters looks great in that suit.

I think why we all like Gameranx is because of how genuine all the videos tend to be. The people behind them and their opinions are always without a gimmick or trying to be something cool and edgy to appeal to a certain audience. Big fan.
The only reason I watch gameranx over anybody else is just being able to relate to Jake and Falcon. I’ve been a gamer basically my whole life and almost everything Jake talks about I can fully relate to and it’s sometimes nostalgic and a lot of the time it’s funny. So I really end up just enjoying the videos, not to mention how informative the videos are

Hey Jake, would you mind telling us a bit more about Falcon? Like, he is such a big part of your channel but at the same time, feels kinda distant to the rest of the crew and I'm not sure if that's just because he doesn't hang out with you guys during the gaming news summary of the week.

Honestly find your Before You Buy videos are the most useful pre-purchase viewing... you don't get too bogged down in detail but give a great understanding of what the game is, how it plays etc. Good job.
I love your "before you buy" videos because you rate things not as "good or bad" but as "I like or don't like" and you treat the game with respect. When we agree, it feels cozy. When we don't, it feels good anyway.

Unless I honestly just truly love the subject matter and have no hesitations, I ALWAYS rely on the Before You Buy to determine whether or not I go actually fork out the money for a game. I see and hear about all the strong and weak points of a game without spoilers. We appreciate them, so thank you!

Every time I consider buying a game on sale or even brand new, I HAVE to watch a BYB on Gameranx. I think you have set a strong base for reliability and I can trust what you say. I don't even think the other larger game review companies can hold a candle to how well you research and present a game in such an accessible and unbiased way. Major props to you and the team!
Personally, I started watching the BYB series of videos for games that I was already curious about. Now I watch them because they are entertaining and well done, and sometimes I find out about a new game and end up following it more closely. We'll done Jake, and the Gameranx team, you guys are still making great content!

One thing I like that makes your video thumbnails stand out in searches or subscription feed is the white background with the different characters in that same pose. Not many reviewers have such a simple go to that is easy to see
