I’m an airline pilot and just got mine this past week. I’m usually living in hotel rooms 4 nights a week. For me, this is a game changer. No longer having to lug an extra laptop bag with a gaming laptop around with me is huge. I feel like I’m in a profession that this thing was exactly designed for.

Linux nerd here. I still don't have a Steam Deck, but I'm so grateful to Valve for the investment they've made into Linux gaming. They could've gone the Google/Amazon route, using Linux for Android, Chromebooks, Fire, etc., but not really advancing Linux forward much. Instead, they've not only contributed financially but have also contributed useful technological advancements (and made them free and open source) to the point where I finally don't dual boot into Windows at all. Here's my take:
At first I was that person that just put a couple steam games on it and was having a blast. A week later I figured why not try emulation? I'd done so in the past and this device ran it great, it had small flaws and needed some tweaks but it worked out just fine. Well emulating, some games did struggle no matter how much tweaking I did which led me to the next step. Hacking the Deck or giving the user more options with add-ons. There's just so much you can do with this device.
It's like your own personal treasure trove, but the treasure inside is what you make of it, and for each person that's going to vary which is why I believe some people love this thing and others not so much.

I put in my reservation on the 25th of March and it says "After Q3..." for me meaning October or later. I joined the hype train late but I'm so excited to play around with it, I'll use it for some steam games (Celeste, Hollow Knight, MKX, Mk11, Skyrim and more...) and I've even been convinced by some people's videos to try out emulation. One thing I don't think people have spoken about enough is the idea that the steam deck isn't just a product, you get this beautifully positive experience with it as well, there is a whole community coming together specifically for this device which feels like a class of its own even though its considered a gaming PC. It's so heartwarming to see people coming together for this and creating stuff for it and sharing solutions to problems surrounding the deck. I can't wait to get my 512gb model and play some games on the go :D

I got mine about 9 days ago. It’s the 512gb and at first I was like “…did I overpay?” But I think at this point the answer is no. This thing rules.
    1. The extra storage space is necessary. Yes you can buy the SD cards or crack it open and replace the internal. I like not needing to do either of those things.
    2. The etched glass rules. I hate seeing my ugly mug reflected back at me when using the switch in handheld. This is probably my favorite things about this model. Although…
    3. The premium case is incredible. The size and form factor of this thing means you basically need the case around at all times. The premium case’s interior is so much nicer than the base model’s. I know it sounds weird to praise a case but it’s a big part of the experience.
Overall, I just think this thing is the best for many of the reasons you mentioned in the video. I am super glad I will likely never have to double dip on game purchases again and I love hanging out in bed with my wife and the cats while playing AAA games.

It's great to just to be able to play a PS2 game for half an hour without worrying about cables or memory cards or any set up, and within seconds, switch to Metal Gear Solid V with gyro aiming or Skater XL with a bunch of PC-only maps. I'm looking forward to opportunities to take it to friends' houses and play multiplayer retro stuff with minimal effort. Doesn't even matter if I bring controllers. I landed a preorder about 30 seconds after they went up. A few months later, I was notified that my car insurance payment was being moved up to December, so I had to cancel it, then later reorder. I'm now at "after Q3", and I'm kind of glad. This still looks great, but I might just wait for the second model.

I'm in a similar boat, but I waited intentionally until I had more information and felt confident about it. I ordered mine in October, and I probably won't see it until next October or so. I honestly wish I had ordered it sooner, but being in the "After Q3" group will mean that the software is more fleshed out when we get it, and they might even fix some hardware defect issues like the fans and the sticky B button that some units have because of some flash on the shell. It sucks to have to wait, but I am optimistic that we will get a better product because of it.
However, I have a friend that was able to get one already, and I did get to try it, and it felt amazing. Very smooth, good weight to it, the games we tested ran well. It made me want it even more.... So maybe that was a mistake to try it...
