For retro emulation there are many cheaper options. The Steam Deck will shine on PC games. It has a better GPU than any existing handhelds such as the AYA NEO and the OneXPlayer. But it sacrifices CPU core and clock speed for it, which means that modern emulation will be more limited in the Steam Deck.

@@sebassg3668 yea

this is the connection between pc and consoles that everyone was waiting for
The convenience of a console with the flexibility of a PC. It really will give you the best of both worlds.
And just like a PC you can run emulators on this thing. Switch emulation should be really interesting, since Yuzu runs better on Linux than on Windows, and they just released the project Hades update that massively improved performance and compatibility. At this point you can get 30fps on old low end APUs like the 2400G/3400G, with the Steam deck you could probably run at higher resolution too.
Hopefully this will convince Nintendo to make improvements. At this point there is not much they can do about their weaker hardware and the fact that Switch exclusives will run better on emulators, but they absolutely can do something about third party games. Make them way cheaper so they are price competitive with Steam, maybe even cheaper, and then at least people won't play those on Steam Deck. Steam Deck might also push Nintendo to improve their online and Bluetooth controller compatibility. Competition is good for the industry.

I want to say that a while ago Valve actually told developers to focus on Windows builds that run better under Proton (the Linux compatibility layer). That way the developers don't have to do any real support for Linux gamers and they can leave that to Vavle, since Proton is their product. It also frees up the devs from having to port to Linux and test it. Instead, they can just have a Linux machine running their game under Proton, and test it there. Still doing testing, none the less (which, lets face it, most games need more testing anyway...), but they don't have to worry about the port and supporting different game builds.

I dont care about graphically intese games, it's nice when a game looks great but if a main focus is on looking realistic than the content will be lacking, games like minecraft and risk of rain 2 can be played for hundreds of hours because they have satisfying gameplay not because of how graphically detailed they are, Nintendo makes very fun games and because of that I don't care if it's less powerful, I will take a new switch over a steam deck because everything works on switch, not all games on steam have controller support and many games don't work very well, but every game on the switch is optimized for the switch so they don't need to be overly detailed they need to be fun
2022: Building the ultimate steam deck
"haha you use a controller on PC"
"buys a steam deck"
@Dragon Mason Same. I'm not a competitive multiplayer guy, so I prefer a gamepad's comfort over keyboard and mouse (unless I'm playing Total War or something).
I basically view my gaming PC as a robust console. Couch gaming on a 4k HDR TV rules compared to sitting at a desk with a monitor.
Making fun of people using a controller on PC is actually a thing? Didn't realize people were so petty.
Gots to have my controller on pc unless I'm playing wasteland 3 or fallout 2.
Controllers are fine for PC. Depending on the game.
Why is this a thing people are made fun of because of?? Ok i have 2 gaming PC's, one of which I have plugged into a projecter with a wireless controller so I can play from my couch!
As a person with a ton of steam games that I can't play without a good pc. This might be very beneficial to me if I can play most of my games on this console. I'm definitely buying this
I feel like the steam deck will probably take place of my gaming laptop. The idea really just comes down to having access to my library without streaming through the cloud or remote play.

Shovelware
@@BurningRubber454 switch games have more shovelware tbh steamdeck can play almost all AAA games no port needed, taks a look at witcher 3 port on the switch it looks garbage compared to playing it on the switch

One thing i can say is Proton is freaking amazing i just installed POP OS and so far with Proton and Lutris i have every game working even old old ones its freaking nuts now.
Deck was the first handheld that Iâm going to buy since my Nintendo DS, iâm all on board with this idea, I think he said it perfectly when it was the portable Xbox concept that weâve all wanted since we were kids
Steam Deck is the handheld that I'm going to buy since PSP. A portable device must be fire enough for me to actually be buying it.
@@anonymouspokemon4623 My last handheld was also the PSP and I preordered the Steam Deck 256 GB, it's what I wanted since the OQO in 2007, but those Windows handhelds have always been too expensive and lacking good hardware until now.
@@alterbr33d I'm from South East Asia, so I can't reserve the Steam Deck yet. Hope I can do it soon.
As for the model, I'm actually torn between the 256GB and the 512GB models.
On one hand, 256GB storage is fine for AAA games and I cam buy a 128GB SD card for emulation games.
On the other hand, I'm actually wondering about the exclusive carrying case that they provide with the 512GB model. If it looks amazing, then I must have it.
@@anonymouspokemon4623 buy the 64gb and an nvme drive in
Why do people not understand Linux does basically everything Windows does and steamos has so many compatibility layers with Linux that it's the same or even better
Exactly. Linux came a long way regarding gaming and is still steadily improving (in gaming and overall).
The Switch is so successful because of its game library, which to me is mostly catered to kids and the casual gamer. I'll be picking up a steamdeck eventually I'm sure, but in my house we have 3 switches and probably more when the Oled and the eventual "Pro" model comes out.
I'm pretty sure you don't need to install Windows on it ;) Proton is pretty big now and if Valve is brewing something bigger (with confirmed EAC and BattlEye support), that's gonna be awesome.
Might need windows for gamepass
@@advictoriam9264 Fair point as Wine (on which Proton is built) doesn't support UWP apps. Only known way how to play Gamepass right now is to buy Ultimate and stream it though XCloud.
1000% getting the steam deck. Steam deck, along with my ultrawide gaming pc, + Oculus Quest 2 = ultimate gaming setup.
Why are you rich
@@isakayyik966No I'm not rich. My PC rig was about $3000 but I saved for a few months a few years ago and bought everything on cyber Monday/ black Friday. I don't have an oculus quest yet, but plan to get one. Along with the steam deck

Steam deck is better for me because I already have steam games and games actually go on sale
I reserved the 256GB version literally the minute I found out about it because I just kind knew this thing would fly off the shelves. You have to be quick with this stuff if you're an early adopter.
Also, a lot of the fears & concerns surrounding the hardware have either been dealt with already or new information being dropped that just adds to an already impressive piece of hardware. It really just gets better and better, not the other way around as is usually the case.
Looks like Valve has gone all out on this and their timing is unbelievable. Announcing this on the day Nintendo released the OLED Switch was a master stroke.
I have a backlog of steam games I've bought on sale but never really played. All those years I thought I wasted money on those games, but it the end ut was all worth it for this device. Can't wait to for this device :)
Question when you sell a game do you have to delete anything or do anything on the game card or disc before selling it?
Preorder my steam deck months ago and I canât wait!
I ordered one and am very excited to be able to sit on the couch and play games
You can do that with the PS5 and Xbox Series X and they offer better performance.
The Vita is still my favorite. Near perfect design and did OLED a long time ago.

Do u guys have a podcast cuz I like listening to u talk about tech 100x more than screaming at each other about who has a bigger budget
For me itâs a no brainer but Iâd only be hesitant that they end up refreshing the vsd in a year. It shouldâve done standard with 128 gb IMO seeing its marketing as a portable pc also despite the use of external storage
I am so hyped for this. To think I could just whip out a monitor of stick it into an laptop and boot up pc games. YES.
Iâve missed pc gaming ever since my gaming pc went defunct a few years ago. Console gaming is great, but yes and yes to pc games handheld and basically on anything that can plug into it

Considering Proton's compatibility is only going up (and they plan to get "every" game compatible with it by launch) I feel comfortable pre-ordering the Steam Deck.
If anything, it'll have a better life doing productivity and development tasks than my years-old Dell Inspiron with a 300-cycle-rated battery that I can't even get a replacement for.
6:55, SteamOS runs on Proton, which is a compatibility layer for Linux so that you can play all your games right on the native OS, no windows required. Also I wouldn't recommend installing windows anyways because its not optimized for the deck and it takes up a lot of storage
Yes
Also, that way, GNU/Linux would get more support, which would be good for Linux.
I have a pre-order in for the Steam Deck. I love the idea of it, and it has been somthing that I have wanted for quite some time. I can't wait until I get my hands on it.
One of the first things I'll do is play games on PCSX2.
Same. Emulators on the Steam Deck is super cool.
My switch benefits from having a gripcase on it as my hands sweat like crazy so no idea how Iâm going to get a case for the steam deck
I am quite happy that valve is giving Nintendo a Good jumpscare, they were to with the Switch i really hope that the valve will attack the switch in a positive way, like choose a theme for your background on the switch, or HERE Netflix!! Just small examples, and the motion control on hitting the nunchuck can actually be a game changer for the switch, Nintendo never cared for their competitors but lets hope they will sit on the edges of their chairs in their next meeting.
Yes
Hopefully this gives Nintendo a wake up call. They have always had consoles not as powerful as Sony and Microsoft, but weâre significantly cheaper so they got away with it. Now that thereâs a 300 dollar Xbox that completely out performs the 350 dollar oled switch, and steam deck which starts at 400 dollars with double the storage and is well much more powerful. The switch could use a power boost as even switch exclusives can be kinda laggy. The only real reason to get the switch over a steam deck would be the Nintendo classics, which I think is one of the only reasons the switch still sells
Bruh it's still not publicly out I think Nintendo still has this one in the bag ngl hopefully Nintendo has a better future with games and shit doe
@@sybsygstgstsgysg5330 The thing is, people who buy Steam Deck and Switch are 2 completely different types of Gamers, People who buy Steam Deck are most likely PC gamers who prefer high end graphics and Singleplayer/Online Games, and the Steam deck allows them to do that in a semi-affordable portable way. Switch owners are more casual or just Nintendo fans, that want to play Nintendo exclusives and some other 3rd party games at an affordable price (especially with Switch Lite) and also want to play Multiplayer games locally with their friends/family. So a PC gamer probably isnât gonna want a Switch, and a Casual/Nintendo gamer probably wonât want a Steam Deck. They both appeal to completely different markets, therefore I donât think Valve is trying to compete with Nintendo and vice versa, and I donât think Steam Deck is gonna hurt Switch sales, or Switch hurt Steam Deck sales.
@@styrofoamio I know that
Valve hit the mark for me. There are a good chunk of games I wanna get on Steam such as JRPGs, but part of me feels like I'd have more fun playing those sort of games on a handheld form-factor which leaves me thinking, "Damn, guess I'll get it on the Switch then."
Sure, I won't use it solely for JRPGs. I mean playing Final Fantasy 14 or Sekiro on the couch tho đ
