Mass Effect has always been a bright spot for me even during the darkest times of my life. Back in middle school, I got bullied a lot and didn't have a lot of friends so these games were kind of an escapism. These characters were legitimately my best friends at the time and Paragon Shep definitely played a huge part in the man I've become today. And today, as a 23-year old, I've had to deal with very real, adult problems in life and just when everything is finally starting to get better, in comes ME:LE like an old friend; a perfect cherry on top to remind everyone that there is good in the world.
Glad to see all this revitalized ME love! Jake, all these series veterans, and even you folks who are about to experience the trilogy for the very first time... we all have a very, very special experience to share. :)

10000% exactly same here brother. I was bullied in middle school and at the same time my parents were getting divorced.
Mass Effect 1 and ESPECIALLY Mass Effect 2 were there in my life when I needed them the most. In fact, i'd go out of a whim and say ME2 saved my life. I pre-ordered the trilogy on PS5 just to give thanks to Bioware when I needed the ME series the most.

Omg! ME makes me laugh, makes me cry. It send shivers down my spine and goosebumps on my skin. I feel joy and excitment and dread and fear. All these feelings go in every single playthrough of ME, for me. I have played ME1 and 2 over and over again, but I never finished ME3. Because I put so much of myself into these phenomenal games, I hated watching team mates die because I hadnt made the right choices in the previous 2 games. I hated that the child died at the start. I hated the death and destruction. I found it so hard to enjoy ME3 when it brought so much real life war pain into the game series. I just couldnt deal with losing these people that I had come to love like family. I have got to the lasr couple of missions on ME2 Legendary and I have been trying to psych myself up for ME3. Im finding it so hard. I am hoping i have made all the right choices, but I know there are 1 or 2 characters who will inevitably die and it brings tears just knowing that, even before I play. Mass Effect is not a game to be played, its an experience to be lived. Long live Mass Effect, Commander Shepard and all members of the Normandy crew.

My favorite thing about Mass Effect is how I personally discovered it.
I was a pretty isolated kid so I didn't follow video game news until around 2012 when I turned 18. I mostly just grabbed a random cool looking game off the shelf whenever I was allowed to.
So one day in like 2009ish I stumbled upon this little Platinum hits Xbox 360 title in the bargain bin called Mass Effect, and I thought the armor and the aliens on the front looked so cool.
Basically for me finding Mass Effect was like falling in love with a "hidden gem" game only to find out a couple years later that it's not a hidden gem at all, and there's a huge fan base, and there are 2 massive sequels. That was a magic moment for me.

I’ll never forget. My first experience with this franchise was the demo for Mass Effect 2. I played thru that and was instantly hooked. I went the following day to buy it from GameStop, and the guy working asked if I played thru the 1st one. I told him I hadn’t and he highly recommended it. His words “the gameplay might throw it off for you at first, but the lore and the characters are worth the play.” I was hesitant but I bought the 1st one instead. And he wasn’t wrong, the gameplay had me doubting my decision, but then one night everything just clicked. I fell in love with the dialogue between characters as your party grew and grew. I loved learning about the universe at the same time that Shepard does, and I loved finding out the importance of your mission as you gather more and more information. I can’t wait to play thru these games again ❤️.

I think it's the sense of acceptance (not being like it's fine if you wanna be racist) but being able to talk to someone of any religion, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation. Grade 8 me seeing that really paved the way to being the person I am today, and I'll always be grateful for that.

Nice vid Jake. I really enjoy watching others who appreciate the games I like. I came to the series about 2014. Having no experience with shooters (other than Metroid Prime), or RPG's (other than Dragon Quest VIII) I found no real issues with ME1. The journey was absolutely amazing and immensely memorable. I deleted all the games from Origin, I've finished the preload, so now I'm waiting to get the day one patch. Kind of embarrassing, but I'm a 57 yr old who's feeling like a kid on Christmas eve

I love the trilogy as a whole and I finally decided to pic it up yesterday to play through the games again. The one scene that really stuck with me through out the entire series was the scene in ME3 where Shepard and Garrus were on a platform having a shooting contest. For some reason, that scene made me appreciate the level of work that went into all of the games. That really could have just been another cut scene but I was so emotionally invested in it.

The voice over for the journal entries that build up the awesome lore. Like it has a history and really spans the milky way.

The thing that really drew me in was the lore. The gameplay, plot and characterization were always great, but when you can sit back and have the narrator read all the information about the galaxy, it added so much more depth to everything for me. Bioware pretty meticulously went over all the aspects they could think of and it's packaged really well. I used to play the hell out of ME2 and take food breaks just listening to all the lore lol

So on point dude, I couldn't have said it better myself tbh! For my most iconic memory though it definitely has to be the Citadel DLC from ME3, being able to do a party (in your own apartment!) with all your friends and squadmates after going through so much in the last 3 games was a feeling I haven't had replicated again in a game yet. But also the crazy premise that DLC had and the amount of good jokes and humor made it feel like they knew it would be the last DLC for the trilogy and they just decided to fire on all cylinders for it and finish it with a huge bang. 😢

Man, the stuff you were saying about your experience with the game, it felt like one of those, "Wait... are you me!?" type of deals. ME2 being your favorite, even not hating the ME3 ending, or making a character that vaguely looks like you, even citing that specific moment after the climatic boss battle in ME1, I knew EXACTLY the moment you were talking about because it had the same effect on me lol. I was thinking of going with a different looking Shepard this time, but hearing you remind me of that has steered me back towards making a character that looks like me. The imagination that managed to bring us this world and the detail behind it and all the alien species. and the writing in ME1 is just superb. I just rolled credits on the trilogy for the first time after picking up the Legendary Edition at launch and I’ve got to say, I was totally blown away by the universe BioWare created, the characters they filled it with and the story they told. An absolute all time classic!
I went in with tempered expectations and fully expected ME not to be able to live up to the almost ridiculous levels of hype built around it but it totally did! It even exceeded my expectations! I was pretty much spoiler free too other than knowing lots of people didn’t like the way it ended.

Not sure if anyone will ever read this, but my favorite ever moment in Mass Effect was *SPOILERS* :
In the Citadel DLC in ME3 how wholesome everything was at the end, every character having the time of their life. Everyone talking to each other and messing around, the group photo at the end, it felt like actual friends interacting with each other, people getting drunk and just having a laugh... and a few moments later during the fight on Earth, Shepard dying to save everyone, it just breaks my heart. Seeing the crew mourn Shepard and then putting "Commander Shepard" with "Anderson" on the memorial wall is just one of the saddest moments in gaming for me personally. Ignoring how bad the ending was, simply the fact that Shepard dies after everything he's done is just heartbreaking.
