I only played this one over X-Men vs SF for Omega Red, Shuma Gorrath, and Blackheart. I'd rather have just had them in X-Men vs SF. Omega Red is a proper X-Men character, anyway.
I miss that era when even a cash grab was a great game.
That era never really went away. Those namco naurto fighters were cash grabs, but some are still good. Capcom fighting jam was a cash grab, and its still bad lol.
Was this the same era that had Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game? Lol
No lies
@@Raytheman581 I actually liked Capcom Fighting Jam’s engine and gameplay, it was just too sparse in character selection & terrible BG’s and no endings. I think had they done the MvC3 route and done a huge 50+ character roster of almost all Darkstalkers, Red Earth and a lot of Street Fighters it might have been a minor success.
@@mikeg2491 I agree, they really dropped the ball with that project. It needed way more characters.
Capcom really needs to do a Marvel Capcom Collection now with Xmen Cota, MSH, Xmen Vs SF, MSH vs SF, M vs C, and M vs C2.
Beg Disney for it
@@KaitouKaiju I'm gonna have to hold Minnie hostage to get my demands at this pont!
They kinda did...just gotta pay out the ass for all those in an Arcade 1up cabinet.
Always through the same and still waiting. Its easy money but Disney is too dumb to go for it
@KaitouKaiju I don't beg shit. Capcom got to pay the licensing.
That announcer is the greatest in the entire Capcom vs franchise. I love how he called EVERY super move finish.
BERZERKER BAAARRAGE EEEX!
OOOHHHMEGA HIT DESTROYER!
FINAL JUSTICE!
SHUN GOKU SATSUUUU! 😂
"Laziest Cash Grab Fighting Game!?" NEVER!!!!! I played this when it first came out in the arcade and back then never thought it was a cash grab....even though I fed the machine like it was starving
Same!!
it was hype but the roster choices could have been better. at least shadow charlie was in this game. lol.
marvel vs capcom 2 is what we want but the soundtrack of that game just turns off my hype.
I love this soundtrack…
@@ssppeeaarr I used to hate MvsC2 soundtrack with Jazz music. But after years of playing and different fighting games, MvsC2 is my all time favorite soundtrack in fighting game history. It's just so unique and different and it can go pretty hard at times. Especially the Carnival stage.
Still my favorite of all. Favorite soundtrack and love how the announcer yells out the supers when they finish.
I still love the Announcer! Its kinda cool the arcade literally screams at you " TO PLAY THIS GAME!!"
aren't they all cash grabs, lol. This game was awesome...and arguably lead to MvC. w/o MsH v SF, X-men v SF might've just been a 1 off crossover
it was a win win for capcom and marvel tho. heard they were in rough times in this era and capcom really brought some
much needed HYPE back to marvel. gotta respect capcom they show lots of love to the franchise. until mvc2 of course...
lmao. god bring back the epic ost of the older games plz.
Key word, laziest. And it is honestly, this one had the least amount of work put into it out of the vs games they made. It shares the same stages and almost the same roster and both have apocolypse as a boss. That doesn't mean its not good, cause I still like it better than xmen vs sf, but it is the laziest in terms of the vs games they created.
They just need to roll all these games into one, including all the stages and play styles.
@@Raytheman581 i think they put effort into the ost. n cyber akuma was the real boss i think... but its better then mvc1 for me for sure. that was diappointing in roster too but even moreso then this one.
@@ssppeeaarr Mvc1 did have a disappointing roster because of how small it was, but the capcom side of the roster was great, megaman, strider and captain commando were great choices. Marvel didn't really have anyone new, but venom was a great choice and because they couldn't use ironman due to rights going to activision war machine was a great substitute.
At least Mephisto's palette swap is believable, since he took a form similar to Blackheart in the comics. But not seeing Dr. Doom again until MVC2 is just criminal.
This game rocks. It's one of my favorite of all time. Not lazy at all. The roster is pure Japanese Capcom selection
One thing I’ve noticed about MSHvsSF is that the Marvel roster is a sausage fest. It would have been cool if they included Psylocke as well as Rogue since she was well received in XvsSF. Plus, it wouldn’t have been a hassle for Capcom to include them since they were reusing so many sprites.
My favorite game of the Marvel vs Capcom franchise was and still is X-Men vs Street Fighter. The roster was not that big but the selection of characters that the picked, and the music was what really made the game shine.
The first crossover fighting game that I've played way back in 2004 as a kid. It's fun as hell. One of the key stepping stone to set up Marvel vs Capcom and then the chaotic sequels.
This game had the best presentation from the first 3 games in the series.
I rather enjoyed this game more than Xmen vs Streetfighter! Sure it can be looked as a rush job but I enjoyed its diverse roster( Including Norimaru), the music ( Ken and Bisons theme are sick!)and fighting Cyber Akuma as oppose to fighting your partner like the previous game! ❤
same, mostly cause I liked spidey over x-men in general.
@@thecunninlynguist Same!
Right there with you
Cool but….nobody asked you 🤷🏽♂️
@@Betoven81 actually Top Hat asked for comments in the comments section, so yeah nobody asked you to be salty.
This game was awesome, it ate so many of my coins in college.
Love all these VS. games!
This was my jam at the arcade. I remember they had it on a dynamo showcase cabinet, it was great!
I played it on a cocktail table at Gameworks. It was so much fun.
They need to make games like this again.😁👍.
To this day I say it's an absolute tragedy that sagat wasn't in mvc2. They could have just left him as he was in alpha3 and he would have been a perfect fit. His supers were all already crazy.
I love this game! Wish more cashgrabs were like this one.
These sprites games give the PlayStation and Saturn a whole lot of renewed hype toward their late stage cycle after consumers are no longer awed and impressed with the 3d performance of what these machines can do by then after seeing what Dreamcast along with the next gen of consoles can do on trailers and magazines. By then people were starting to find their 3d games on Saturn and PlayStation looking ugly but not the 2d fighting games though. They look and play amazing and even after nearly 30 years later they still age extremely well.
This one was my favorite! The music, characters, announcer, EVERYTHING!! .....except no Gambit or Megaman :D
It was a great game back in the day's & still great now , still love playing these game today 😍
This was actually my favorite of the series.
Same, I miss the concept when they combine the names of hypers when you do a dual hyper.
same
It wasn't a cash grab! Xmen v sf had super easy to do 200% damage infinites and that needed to go that's why this game is a savior.
I still like to play this game, like you said it's more balanced and you can't deny the soundtrack, easily the best in the series.
One thing I still can't understand is why they cut the animation frames of cyclops, captain America, and shuma gorath. You'd think by mvc2 they'd be restored but nope. Either way great video!
I tend to think they cut frames because the alpha characters had so few in comparison it would look a bit off-kilter to have some characters more fluid than the others.
That game intro sequence steals my heart.. The announcer does his thing, Sakura says - "Ready?" Hulk says "Let's ROCK!" They rain death upon Blackheart, the announcer takes control of the in-ding. Stuck playing this game for the next week at least.
This game let you know the 90s & Bill Clinton were "The Shit".
Best music in the game - Zangief's Saxy theme & Cyber Akuma's boss theme.
Thanks for the video; please never stop doing your videos your way, especially for the homey Teddy Long as applicable. Even if it is a bit of a DLC sort of situation, I still put it as the 3rd best in the series, just behind MvC2 and UMvC3. This was the first "Mahvel" game that grabbed, just out of happenstance of passing by it in an arcade. That wild exuberance of the announcer in the attract scene, the wildness of the all-encompassing nature of "Super Heroes" versus "Street Fighters", just the basic fun concept of smashing your toys together as a kid. With a killer soundtrack on top of it.
I always thought this was the best; as it came out when I started college and we had a huge arcade downtown
Looking back on it now, it was quite the cash grab. But (and this could be the nostalgia talking), MvSF was simply not a copy/paste of all the characters from other Capcom games to this one. It still laid the groundwork to what MvC would later become.
Streetfighter an X-Men the crossover
We never saw coming.
I kept up with gaming mags in my youth but I was blindsided to see a X-men vs SF cabinet pop up at a local pizzeria having no clue this was coming out. I was absolutely blown away at the time, totally unlike now where games are hyped as much as years in advance.
This game has a good feel if a limited roster since it cuts some faves in place of balance. But it is too underrated for this reason as it should probably be more in esports.
This game after school we would throw it into the old playstation play at the time the fastest moving console fighting game at the time. It was memorable to me, I remember the win round icons showed how you won. You would get a cheese icon for killing some while they where blocking and the whole you can kinda determine your win animation by holding a button at the end of the match.
Xmen vs street fighter on the sega saturn with the ram upgrade was the closest i got to owning an arcade cabinet
The beginning part of Wolverine's theme in Marvel vs SF sounds like black church music😂
i wish disney would let capcom do a re release of the compilation of all the vs. games
Marvel vs. Street Fighter has the best music out of all the Vs. games.
These were the steps required to build up to Marvel Vs Capcom otherwise we would have had to wait for multiple years for even one title
They were supposed to have came out with a Marvel Super Heroes 2 at this time but I don't know why they changed their mind. To Capcom's credit. this game was pretty good not mention the soundtrack was great
This game melted my brain
I'm not really a fan of Marvel or Capcom but I AM a fan of video game history and your videos!
I own a bunch of these games and pull them out now and then for a little fun but i have probably played less than an hour of all of them combined.
It maybe lazy in some areas but i never looked at it that way. it does more than enough to make its own and a better entry to X-Men vs. Street Fighter. A well rounded/diverse roster, new themes with some being iconic and definitive versions of a characters (Spider-Man, Captain America, Ryu, Zangief, M.Bison), and improved final boss in Cyber Akuma. I still hate you had to fight your secondary character at the end of XM vs. SF just to your characters ending. it felt lazy, but not here.
Mvsf had the better themes, but the roster could be debated on weather its better or not depending on if you like xmen characters more or a mix of marvel characters. The laziest part about it was reusing the stages, and they didn't even add any new marvel characters that weren't previously playable.
Out of the other series, this was my favorite. Other than marvel vs Capcom ultimate. The announcement of the finishers was my favorite...Scissor Kick Nightmare!!!! Weapon X!!!!! Hyper Stars And Stripes!!!! Lol 😅
*the ONLY reason to get a SATURN with 4MB cart!* 💡
My favorite moment is doing Dan and Sakura's tag team super only to learn that it wont hit shit if your opponent is across the screen.
I seen this game in a magazine clip next to the first duleshock controller. One day my grandma took me to Walmart and told me to get whatever game I wanted and it was MSHvsSF. I love this game so much!❤
the thing I remember was it can still be played on the Saturn without the RAM card, unlike X-Men VS SF, the game only goes to the title screen if you don't have enough RAM.
Actually the main complaints about MSH vs. SF was more that it tried to fix a ton of the zany aspects X-Men vs. SF had and in the Marvel Vs. games is arguably the most balanced but also not as fun to play because it lacks that crazy stuff these games thrived on. It's why MvC1/2 would embrace the chaos that the fans of these games really loved.
One thing MSHvsSF does right is the music!! MSH vs SF has such awesome music!
And i actually prefer MSHvsSF over Xmen vs SF
Been waiting for a more comprehensive marvel super heroes to come out for 30 years
It would have been cool if we got more Street Level heroes. Daredevil, Bullseye, Luke Cage, and Blade.
I thought Bullseye was a villain.
@@WizardOfWor they got villains in the roster.
As some people mentioned already, modst fighting games by Capcom were in for the cash. See the entire Street Fighter series itself. And before their VS series we also got X-Men and Marvel Super Heroes as such. And then these games here X-Men vs Street Fighter and Marvel Super Heroes VS Street Fighter, Marvel VS Capcom 1+2+3+Ultimate. And so on. By any means whenever we by a Capcom Fighter we know we are in for both, a treat AND the cash grab. Do away the complaints and enjoy the damn games finally!
Palette swap? That is when u only change colors but all the secret characters had their own mechanics and their own moves sakura and dark sakura have different special attacks, zangief don't have a super armor and can't breathe fire mech zangief is so slow that his yoga flame like attack is really useful for reach and shadow lady too is different
I really love how sega and capcom found a balance and made the deal regarding only releasing the game in Japan, and not invested in a game already programmed and finished to help a good console overseas, agreeing in not selling more copies to eager consumers and leaving the saturn practical end-of-life-support.
About MvSF, I liked that game, I never was hardcore enough to take advantage of infinite combos, anyway. And the music is a piece of art!
I forgot how good that Wolverine theme song was
Never understood why dr doom and thanos were not in this game X-men vs SF had magneto and juggernaut.
Thanos as the final boss would have been epic, imagine the what-if endings of SF characters like Bison getting the infinity gauntlet and seeing what they do with it when getting unlimited power. Lost opportunity IMO.
I’d love to see a SNK vs Arc systems.
@ 8:00 US Agent is known as John Walker, started out as Super Patriot. John Walker became Captain America, when Steve Rogers had a falling out with the US government. At that time, Steve Rogers couldn't use the name Captain America, since the US government argued, that the name is US government property. The US government assigned John Walker as a substitute Captain America. Steve Rogers at the time, used the name "The Captain" to fight crime. When Steve Rogers returned to being Captain America, John Walker took the name US Agent. So even if you call US Agent a *"bootleg Captain America",* you're not exactly wrong, since John Walker became a substitute Captain America. And if you're wondering if John Walker is a supersoldier, yes he is. He had a better version of the serum, which makes him physically stronger than Captain America. But even if John Walker is stronger, Captain America beats him in experience and having more variety of fighting skills
Brotha you won me over I've watched a few vids but I love your enthusiasm and the research that you do before you do these videos is incredible I'm subscribed.
Dude, this game was incredible! They added a bunch of moves to the existing roster, included interesting new characters that weren't in XvSF. I thought this was a masterpiece, even though it only came out shortly after it's predecessor.
Its all started with street fighter 2. Remember super street fighter 16 bit port.
The game announcer was Gambit voice actor Tony Daniels
If that's a cashgrab, give me all the cashgrabs as possible.
GUYS, what button to switch characters?
Please do videos on mortal kombat 3 (& UMK3), Tekken 2, DOA2, & Soul Calibur 3. As well as videos on the Godzilla fighting games, Blazblue, SNK's World Heroes, Primal Rage, Mace The Dark Age, Sonic The Fighters, & Pokken Tournament
This is my second favorite in the franchise. My favorite is the one against infinity gauntlet Thanos
You should cover asura blade
You forgot about Shadow being in the game again (a hyper blacked out Charlie)
Any game with Dan Hibiki gets a thumbs up from me!!😂😂👍👍
That announcer sounds like the NBA Jam announcer.
Back when they actually put effort into making cash grabs.
Saw this at a laundry mat years ago
But no sound.
I used to want Saturn's Marvel Super Heroes BAD in my youth, but now I'd rather add this to my collection.
Shadow’s Final Mission the best Demon ever 🙌🏻🤷🏻♂️😂
I would have loved to see a Marvel vs DC, just done by Capcom on their CP System II. I would love to have seen what that would have looked like.
Fken epic game. Wish I had room for a genuine arcade machine of it
cash grab? nah..... thats whats microtransaction is now
Was Norimaro the inspiration for Phoenix Wrights fighting style in Marvel vs Capcom 3?
Marvel Va Capcom was my favourite. That and Tekken 3 and 5. I had Marvel Vs Capcom for PS1 I bought it from “Electronic’s Boutique” in probably 2000 or 2001. I got it for $60 Canadian. When I resold the game back to the store (Electronic’s Boutique) 4 years later (Well into the PS2 lifetime, they gave me $80)
This cash grab has great soundtracks, I prefer the OST here than XvS and MvC.
What if Capcom more female marvel universe comic character is Black Cat in Marvel Super Heroes Vs. Street Fighter that excellent idea.
I don't know if that title is clickbait but this game was solid!
This was still a great game
I always found it a bit odd how XMen and Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter had a lot of similar stages. It all makes sense now. I personally prefer Marvel Super Heroes since I played it first.
MSH vs SF wasn't as big as its predecessor X-Men vs SF, but at least it had its fans.
The sad thing is that Capcom never bothered to keep using Chun-Li's unique theme from that game in its sequels. 😟
If this was a lazy cash grab, then this is one the greatest lazy cash grabs I've ever played. My favorite overall of the Marvel vs. series, way more bombastic and charming humor (the studio with Peter Parker there always made me laugh) makes it stand out for me. One of the very few times I went out of my way to purchase the soundtrack. Probably one the greatest game soundtracks I've ever heard. Norimaro is a bonus
Wow I didn't recognize that intro. I've only played the game on Saturn. Never seen the Arcade. The worst sprite drop laziness I've ever seen was Capcom Fighting Evolution
This game was awesome in arcades
I want figures of all these characters and be game accurate
Norimaro debuted in this game so they did create some new assets at least 😅
Why hasn'tt there released these on Capcom Arcade on consoles? I hope thrg di being thrm to digital as we got Strrer Fighter, Dark Stalkers/Vapire Savour abd even Red Dawn, Cyberbots - yet no Marvel vs SD game!
👍 nice
Should’ve been called Ultra X-Men Vs Street Fighter
I forgot they were marvel superheroes vs street fighter
*they used the SAME stages or countries a few new or improved but Marvel characters Wii love* ❤ ⭐️ ❤️
this is my favorite one in the series
The price tags on these is insane
Man, the Saturn was such a great system. Best system for fighting games for sure.
This game is my favorite fighting game of all time. I like this better than X-men vs SF or even Marvel vs Capcom.
Let's not count the number Street Fighter 2's released by then
