@@ppgranja3 I own both Xmen vs SF and MSH Vs SF on PS1. Xmen Vs SF was very clunky. Playable but clunky with lots of animation missing & long load time compared to the Saturn/Arcade version.
I totally agree that MSH Vs SF on PS1 was a much better experience in looks, gameplay speed, animation & load times.
I also own the Saturn version of MSH Vs SF & the only negative comment for that version is no training mode. Other than that, the Saturn version is the closest we'll get to an arcade port. Still cannot believe with the success of Marvel films in this day of age we've not seen a re-release of MSH Vs SF on any other format.

They were almost ALL larger characters with MUCH more animations. And even with SFA2 and 3, some characters lost attack, pose and win animations on PS1 as well. Gen and Zangief in A2 took deep cuts. They were better in A3, but it came at the expense of having to rework the hit spark effects and cutting back on the audio samples.

Why has the previous game in the series better animated characters?
It boggles my mind. More animation frames give these characters more soul, it’s what make them come alive. It’s a scandal. A shameful case of choosing appearance over substance .
Sure the presentation is flashier, the overall package is injected with more color and psychedelic backgrounds, but I can’t see how we can give these things the priority over the characters’ animation.

ROM limits. Every Marvel game was 32MB and were operating on the storage limits of the time. The only way they could’ve done more is if they moved the Vs. Series to the CD and hard drive based CPS3, but I suspect the failure of SF3 put an end to that progression.

The reason the Saturn version had to crop the sides like that was due to not having an equivalent resolution mode to the arcade game. EVERY Saturn CPS2 home port had to deal with this, but the Neo Geo ones had ZERO issues with that since it was a per pixel match for them. The PS1 had a SLIGHT advantage there, but even that wasn’t perfect either.
