This is so wild. whenever i see this stuff i wonder - why not do what Blizzard would do? Reveal that they are making a 1 player game to flesh out the character & tease for a real multiplayer game later? rebrand and tease - buy some time & specialize. Looks like it could have been a fun game if the 'job description' wasn't initially inflated so badly. "open world" was just thrown around a lot.
The biggest problem with SEGA...they have always been their own worst enemy. Why the Revenge of Death Adder never saw a console release is beyond me 🙄
FACTS
The biggest problem with SEGA was the internal management structure and the massive division between SEGA Japan and the American side. Killing your own expansion console before day one is pretty telling. Massive shame since Megadrive and Dreamcast were both right up there in their respective time periods. GD Rom didn’t help DC but I think the nails were already in the coffin by the time anything could be done about that.
Ah well, maybe we can count on Microsoft to be the Sega we miss so much? Or are they going the same way?

I remember when this game came out, and how I felt "That isn't Tyris Flare..." when I saw the redesign.
Fleetway Sonic The Comic had two Golden Axe stories in.
Maybe the trick to getting Golden Axe right might be to design it as an arcade game rather than a console game (even if it will of course be ported to consoles). Part of what made Golden Axe great was that it was so simple and intuitive, so the sort of game that features a tutorial that takes longer to play than some of the earlier installments in the series just isn't going to feel like a Golden Axe game no matter how much of the iconography it includes.

The fact they won't let Dotemu make SoR5... and maybe make another attempt at a 3D SoR (Fighting Force, Die Hard Arcade? :S) a new GA has me so worried.
Dotemu isn't involved? They did amazing with SOR 4.
@@DarksteelHeart No, from what I have red it's going to be 3D, similar to Golden Axe. Not sure if that means 2.5D or full 3D. After Sonic Mania and them not wanting a Mania 2, Sega is just proving to me they still abide by NIH logic.
Dotemu has no further interest in developing more streets of rage. if you would actually followed the devs when the game released they made it clear that this Game was a oneshot project. The artist also made it clear that he does not want to draw this many sprites again, anytime soon and that the workload was almost to much for such a tiny team. Its not sega, dotemu just dont want to do such projects again, at least not in the same franchise. Its not worth for a franchise they dont even own.
@bellonasservant4496 funny, I follow the devs. (Site, social medoa. Ama's etc.) The said "patience" when responding about sor5. They were "clear" they would probably not do it in the same style. What changed was Sega after seeing how successful it was.
It terrifies me that phantasy star online wasn't the new format for all the Sega games that came after it. 😬

I just realized that Soul Calibur could host a Golden Axe character and it would be a great fit. Man, Sega had been smoking all the bad stuff to pass up chances like this...
Yes. Too many guests in fighting games MAKE NO SENSE. It's only gotten worse with MK1 and Soul Calibur 6. Guts from Berserk would be PERFECT for a SC game, for example.
I remember when Sega started releasing so many "new" consoles that you couldn't keep up with them. I had a Genesis and a Saturn. The Dreamcast came out so close to the Saturn that it made that system obsolete.
That's exactly how I remember being turned off by Sega. I was a huge fan of the Master System and Genesis but then there was the CD, the 32X, the Saturn, the Dreamcast all seemingly within a few months of each other. It made their consoles seem disposable.
Sega CD was 1993, 32X was 1994, Saturn was 1995..., Dreamcast was 1999. How was that 4-year gap too close to the Saturn?

@@koteynikoi-kotei9301 - 1999 was a WAY different era than 1995. I don't know how parents didn't see that. Too much trailer park? We were celebrating the coming millennium by then! There hadn't been a single console between the 2 years, Sega actually focused on games by that time! Feels like parents and people should have been ready by then. Every 1st-party video-game company makes a new generation of consoles every 5+ years and Sega just wanted to get theirs in early.

Despite how hot they made Tyris Flare, I couldn't get through Golden Axe: Beast Rider.
Here's to hoping that if SEGA does create a new Golden Axe game, it will be as well made as Streets Of Rage IV.
Golden Axe was so epic. I remember playing it in my Sega Smash Pack for the GBA back in the day
I picked this up dirt cheap three or four years after it came out and didn't hate it. It sucks that the multiplayer was cut, and its nowhere near as much fun as the original games or most of the older spinoffs sure but if they had to limit us to one character at least they picked my favorite of the playable characters from the pre-Golden Axe III games. (By the time I started playing Golden Axe I and Ii I had noticed that I often preferred the female character or one of the female cocharacters in beat em ups and fighting games so I chose her from the start of my first time playing it at some of my cousins' house) I think a Diablo style Golden Axe game could be a lot of fun but I doubt it will ever happen.
I was actually looking forward to this game. I didnt even know it actually came out. They need to give it the sor4 treatment
I remember enjoying the game, but it wasn't a Golden Axe game. But Tyris looked good and the gameplay was okay, so I had fun with it.

For me Sega did have something that rivaled GTA but its not from Secret Level Inc, but from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios (Japan) who made the entire Like A Dragon (Formerly known as Yakuza) series which spans so many games almost all of them I Thoroughly enjoyed. I hope RGG Remakes the PSP games (Kurohyo & Ashura Hen) into full english Dragon Engine titles for PS5/PC/Switch/PS4/Xbox's....
I had this game. Been playin games since the 80's. The only game I ever got motion sickness from was gears of war... and THIS GAME. lol I don't know why but I did. I remember I always had to put it down after about an hour of play.

Well, considering how hard to recognize the main trio is in this upcoming game, I'd say we should be worried.
For example, Gillius doesn't look like a dwarf at ALL and they got Tyris's color scheme wrong.
I enjoyed this game for what it really was. But I totally agree it was nothing compared to the classic. Also they should just call it Beast Rider

Keep it simple just do a Golden Axe in the same style of Streets of Rage 4. Have multiple playable characters from all the games, recognizable breasts to ride,and challenging boss battles. One can hope

I liked the 360 more then the others. The fan one was awesome revenge of death abber or whatever. I didn't really cared about the series until i played the 360 one. But the first one i ever played was part 3 🤔 the one with the half horse woman ...yeah it's part 2 or 3. I'm pretty sure it's part 3.
Sad thing is I played Beast Rider and have played MUCH worse game since then, so it wasn't as bad in retrospect.
Lets be honest. Every AAA adventure game is a sandbox these days. And the world is worse for it.

I own this game not great but fun
the problem issit that this game sbad, its not, theres no bugs or glitches, the graphics voice acting and music are all solid, and the game play while simply is decent, its middle of the road the problem with the game is that it was to different from what fans wanted for a sequal, it wasint multi player, it had only one playable character, and no magic system.
I actually like GA Beast Ride. It's a flawed gem in my opinion.

Probably still a game worth picking up, though. Especially considering its history. Videogame collectors are a strange bunch, after all. They'll (me ok' me' it's me) will aknowledge a game as being a bit of a turd but still want it anyway purely due to the mark (regardless of whether that mark is negative) it left on the franchise history. Just look at crap like bullet witch' x blades or velvet assassin. None are great games and could barely scrape by as good. But have seen their prices rise purely due to their historic? significance. I can imagine beast rider being a game worth picking up purely as a future investment rather than because its a game worth giving your time to. In my semi phenomonal' nearly cosmic experience of videogame collecting ' I do see beast rider as a game worth grabbing while the price is still low for that reason. That and it has a female protagonist that will always appeal to the thirstier element of the videogame community. In that respect I'm still, rather supprised that even today a game like too human is still pocket change considering the interesting history behind its development' and the fact that it was pulled from sale due to its unlawful use of the game engine the devs used for it.

It's bad enough you made a game known for its multiplayer into a single player game, it's worse that you couldn't even turn it into a God of War clone. :facepalm: What were they thinking?!

For whatever reason I read the title as breast rider.
You forgot poor enemy design, random broken qte events during combat, few badly placed checkpoints throughout the sometimes long levels.... yeah, the game was a complete mess and i don't recommend it to anyone. Frustration is the word i would use to describe this game.

Yea, i have no interest to play this game. I want a cartoon like, side scroller like the original Golden Axe. Have it drawn by the artist at Capcom in the image of Street Fighter Alpha 2 and just improve the gameplay

I’ll play this golden axe anyday, over a game sweet baby inc has any had influence on making. Modern era games are woke trash, from gummy fighter 6 to mk1 to the new wolverine game. 360/ps3 games don’t demand I kneel to the BLM/rainbow flag. They give me gore and hot looking chicks, thank you god of war 3 and gears of war trilogy *wipes tear*

Really it’s not as bad as everyone makes it seem if you take it for what it is, a spin-off! It’s not called Golden Axe 3… I agree its levels can be bland but otherwise it’s not nearly that bad at all! It’s kind of fun.
I personally didn't have much of a problem with the game being 3D or if they had decided to go for an open world format but, but I did have a massive problem with the fact that the combat was so clunky and felt that times incredibly awkward not to mention the fact that the camera had a really horrifying habit of zoom in like 2 inches away from your character's shoulder blades to the point you literally couldn't see Jack shit! Beast rider had so much potential but it was completely squandered. If another attempt it's a Golden Axe game like this was done (and I admit that is unlikely) I sincerely hope that the team would be given the staff, resources and time they need to get the job done right Because we all saw what half-assing and it did.
They tried to make it as a God Of War knockoff, but Golden Axe: Beast Rider was one of many SEGA remakes from the PS2 era have been left forgotten
That game doesn't deserve to be called Golden Axe. Just call it Beast Rider.
