    we don’t have what you would call traffic jams here, north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. We have what realtors have created, which are, heavy, traffic, congestion, not really stopped traffic. The reason I say realtors have created. This is because. realtors will go into a farming, community, and offer these farmers more money for their property. Then they could ever earn farming on it. Then they get the local, township commissioners and politicians to change the zoning for commercial and residential building. And they will develop an area that had onetwo-lane road., and they will build apartment buildings and shopping malls, they will tear up the road and lay down drainage, pipes, sewer pipes, gas lines, water, lines, underground electric lines, they’ll put a traffic light every quarter mile, and they will convert rolling, beautiful, hillside, farmlands, into an area with 20,000 apartments and homes Per square mile along these one time country roads. Then they have to build a new water, waste treatment plant, then they have to build much much larger schools, then they have to build hospitals, increase the size of the police force, increase the size of the fire department, and the jail.. they have been doing this to an area just north of where I live called cranberry Township where I lived at one time. I’m not kidding, when I lived there, you could hear the grass grow. I swear I heard grass grow one night. It’s tiny little squeaks… but now, 30 years later, it is the place to avoid at all cost, especially during morning, rush hour, and evening, rush-hour, and Christmas shopping time. The rolling hills have become an ocean of houses with little windows so close together, that if one house falls over, it will land on the next house…
    all of the people buying these houses are younger people. In their 20s and 30s and 40s. Both the husband and wife must work to pay the mortgage. So they must drive.
    so don’t protest oil companies for supplying gogo juice. Protest the realtors that develop land in concentrations without long-term studies of the results of the development. ..
    Look at the traffic jams they have in China. Some of those cities that have rugs built for bicycles and maybe an ox cart for hundreds of years, all of a sudden that townhas 30,000 new cars on the road per month… I have seen videos of some of those traffic jams in China because of the sudden prosperity of so many people that they can afford cars now. But they are new drivers, on tiny roads. Some of the traffic jams have lasted more than two days..
    if those petroleum protesters want to really go after big users of fuel consider this. Some commercial airliners hold up to 70,000 gallons of fuel, they burn 1 gallon of fuel per second. And at any given moment during a 24 hour day, there are more than 5000 planes in the air. That’s 5000 planes burning 5000 gallons of fuel per second. Is a trip to grandmas or Disneyland that important?
    I have commuted by motorcycle for more than 40 years. I wonder how much gasoline I have saved by commuting all those years eight months a year, rain or shine, unless it was really pouring. On my Honda pacific coast motorcycle, which was my favorite commuter that I commuted on for 24 years until I retired. are used about 6 gallons of fuel a week, and I worked six days a week by choice, Saturdays were optional half days that I never turned down because I had two kids in college at one time..
    Remind those petroleum protesters that the planet will still be here, millions of years from now, even if we are not

      Problems exist in all counties they just change with the geopolitical landscape we for example are getting close to $10 per gallon for gasoline, so traveling is seriously expensive, I know the USA have seen rises in fuel prices recently but still way less than here. As to the eco warriors well if I am correct their solution boils down to reducing the world population by about 6 billion people, I would like them to answer the question of who goes and who chooses. Thank you for taking the time to join in the conversation.

    I believe the Morinis are right hand gear change? I'm interested how easy you find it to swop between the left hand and right hand gear change bikes? Whenever I try a right hand gear change I'm fine as long as i think it through, the minute I concentrate on something else (like a roundabout/traffic/corner) I end trying to change gear with the brake lever 😂

      I don't why I don't get confused but I never do. Many years ago I raced a Greeves Silverstone and on the same day a Yamaha 250cc once they were consecutive races and I literally got of one straight onto the other and out again. I never did find it a problem yet I have friends who never got used to Japanese bikes because of the pedals.

    Nice! I was considering one to keep my 'modern' Guzzi company in the garage but opted for a Laverda Alpino instead, which is nice when it's in the mood to start. Time to clean out the carbs again...and the petrol tank, which feels like the source of the problem

      @@oldguyinshed1703 yup, after restoration 10 years ago the bike has barely run so needs some fettling. I put fresh fuel in it and went for an 80 mile ride on Frida - very nice it was too. However, it hasn't started since. Draining the (fresh fuel there was a lot of muck in it so I I think my ride disturbed a lot of crud. Next steps: clean the carbs (again) and this time the tank too. Inline filters have been ordered.

    What do you think of the beneli 400 would it be more reliable than an old bike?

    • @oldguyinshed1703
      @oldguyinshed1703  Před 11 měsíci +1

      I'm sorry I know nothing about the 400 Benelli. What I can is that old bike reliability comes down to maintenance coupled with a pinch of luck. My Nuovo Falcone stopped when the points backing plate came loose, a couple of minutes with an allen key and screw driver sorted it. Old bikes for me are just more interesting.
