Making fun of her isn't love. Not to mention people leave these videos and go harass her. Which wouldn't happen if larger channels didn't cover her videos. The views aren't up because people like her, they're up because they hate watch her. So please don't act like these kinds of videos are helping her out. I have seen channels ACTUALLY talk shyt about her in non funny ways and it's not fun to watch. Ken and Buff have fun observing her attempts at cooking and I enjoy watching her with or without the guys commentary.

I work in a kitchen and we make soup all the time and honestly she didnât do too terrible, itâs just a little thick I think, and not the prettiest soup which to be expected from mushrooms. I say good job Kay on this one, Iâm sure it actually did taste pretty okay

@@MultiLetz no it isnt you need to mix corn starch and water of u want a basic base then chicken broth of u want like she did for extra flavour but most creamy soups are made out of cream, starch, egg or really alot of things but flour is not a thing.

@@Aasha383 I know in the U.S. (good ol' merica....) its common to use a roux for thickening soups and stews which is a cooked mixture of flour and fat, cooked until it thickens. cooking it like this makes that flour taste goes away and if you're making gumbo or something you can cook it longer to darken the color and give it a nuttier taste
She just needed to add a lot more stock and some seasoning. It is hard to make mushroom soup look good
As a professionally trained cook I think she did not so horrifically this time unlike her other videos... That paste that ken and buff said was weird was supposed to be a roux that kay should've cooked out more... The main mistake she did was not cooking out the roux.. which would have made it more pasty and then she should've add more stock... Like way way waaaaay more stock.. and then let it boil then put it in the blender.... Bring it back to the stove and then add cream to taste... And of course season.. I guess cay never seasons... Btw... It takes forever to overcook mushy-rooms... And yes we were taught not to wash them but atleast clean them out with a paper towel

Yeah, I'm not a professional but I love cooking so I know a couple things, and I recognised that the ingredients and the steps were not that far off, but she made enough mistakes that it all went out the window. Flavour wise, I think it might be nice (depending on how much dirt there was on the mushrooms), maybe a bit of seasoning would have helped, hope that the stock was really salty, but texture and looking wise, absolutely vile

"Flour?" When you make cream of mushroom soup (or any cream based soup, really) you start by making a roux. For mushroom soup you start with butter in a hot pan and sweat your onions and garlic in it, and add the mushrooms to cook out some of the moisture before adding flour. Not only is the flour a thickening agent but it also helps bind the fat molecules so that the butter, milk, and any water will all come together instead of separating into weird layers.

Any one who knows how to cook knows thisâŠI feel like kay shoulda used the butter and flour together to make a ruĂ© and then used a different pan to cook down the onions and garlic and mushrooms plus she added too much butter in my opinionâŠbecause honestly you can just straight use the garlic and a little butter to cook it just keep adding little butter at a time and then once the rue turns into a paste then add your heavy whipping cream or whatever water or milk,then let that come to a boil or something and then add those ingredients (the butter and mushroom mixture) to the pot/pan and let that cook and I honestly think she shoulda washed the mushrooms and let it cook slowly so it can cook more once she would add it into the cream mixture,then she can add cheese or idk something to help even the texture out,or to not make it too watery Baer if that makes sense but yea I totally agree with you

I love Kay, and I fully encourage her cooking adventures! It doesn't matter how it turns out as long as she's enjoying and learning in the process. When I was a chef I worked with cooks with the same level or lower when it comes to skill, and they were often some of my favorites simply because of their attitude and willingness to try. Such qualities are priceless!
One thing Kateâs cooking has taught me is that the ONLY temperature setting you can cook anything on is the highest one on your stove.
You shouldnât wash mushrooms because it causes the body of the mushroom to soak up water, causing it to be watered down and itâs flavour wonât be as strong and youâll get a more mushy mushroom instead of a steak texture! I also want to add anything thatâs dirty you can cut off and the black colour is the gills of the mushroom and the spores it holds that it uses to create more mushrooms! Hope this helps ken !

I always wash mine, but the day before I cook them. I let them dry back out and do a dry brine to draw out any excess moisture
You can just dry brush the dirt off as well
I wash them with a damp paper towel instead of under a stream and even then I pat them dry so they soak up as little water as possible. I also only like mushrooms that are cooked to the point where theyve got crispy brown bits on them.
I think Kay just made a decent mushroom spread to put on toast and stuff. It's hard to go wrong with butter, onions, and mushrooms, after all.

Ate mushrooms from something my mom made when I was younger and they were cut up mushrooms. I'm mildly allergic. I woke up when I was 9 or so, and sat up, projectile vomited all my stomach contents. My parents even heard it and came to clean. Ate a burger with mushrooms couple years later, pretty much the same thing. Figured out it was the mushrooms when I was 14. She would make tuna noodle with cream of mushroom, id consistently feel it but because it was cream of mushroom I was able to 10:55 digest it. Ate it constantly for nights because she cooked for an army. It sucks too cause there's mushroom and Swiss burgers, I bet it's great.

She wasn't far off. Up to making the roux she was good. The recipe failed her from that point, or she failed the recipe. I was rooting for her, and thinking @cinnamontoastken would have to eat some words. But once I saw the blender, I realized it was not going to happen for her. More broth, some salt and pepper, and a couple of glugs of cream to finish it, and it would have been another story.

My head chef says not to wash mushrooms too. They have some peat moss (which doesnât have nearly as many dangerous bacteria as regular dirt) on the outside that can be wiped off with a paper towel, but mushrooms are mostly water so rinsing them washes away most of their nutrients and flavor. They also absorb a lot of that water and get mushy
Actually, guys, she made a pretty good mushroom soup concentrate. Maybe a bit more chicken broth before blending, some seasoning and cream or even milk would have done it.

She's right using flour as a thickening agent (cornstarch can be used too), but it needs a lot more broth (personally, I would've used bone broth) and then about a cup of cream too. I also would've added salt, pepper, and rosemary for flavour.

Kayâs videos are some of my favorite videos you react to. Even if her food doesnât come out amazing-I love that she tries and she definitely enjoys what she does. I also love that Mary makes stuffed mushrooms. My dad makes them for holidays and stuffs them with crab, cream cheese and scallions and tops them with cheese and bacon. Theyâre so good!

That was way too much flour and I have no idea where this will go, but making a sort of flavorful "paste" of browned veggies, spices, butter and flour is how you make a good base for sauces and stews. What she's doing isn't odd, but I just assume something will be done poorly lol

Hi Ken and Dane! You generally do not want to add water to mushrooms as it makes them soggy to cook and depending on what you want out of your mushrooms that might ruin your dish! To clean a mushroom there are special little brushes you can buy at the store OR you can wipe them with a damp, wringed out paper towel.

You can't wash mushrooms like you would other vegetables because they absorb the water like a sponge, if you want to clean them you have to use a damp paper towel and be super gentle.

You're supposed to dry clean the mushrooms with a crumbled paper towel or dry pastry brush. You don't use water because they are very hard to dry.

Edit to add: why itâs so thick is because she didnât use enough liquid, and the heat is what makes it thicken so the longer she cooks it the thicker itâs getting

The reason why you are not supposed to wash mushrooms is because they are like a sponge and will soak up all the dirty water, and there is no way to squeeze them out without crumbling. However, you can use a wet pastry brush and gently wash that way.

You definitely can rinse the mushrooms. Quickly though. They should be dried off immediately. Sometimes dirt gets stuck on the top, and I like to rub it off lightly with a paper towel. If you soak the mushrooms, they absorb water and take weird.

Rinsing mushrooms for any amount of time will make them rubbery. If they need it, brush them off with a dry basting brush or wipe them down with a slightly damp paper towel.

A month late, but in Kayâs defense, all she really needed was more cream or other moisture. Iâm also thinking her flour measurements may have been off enough to mess her up if she measured. Iâve done experiments for my bake sci class about different methods for volume measurements. It matters. Combining that with differences in flour moisture may have caused it to be so thick. Small portobello mushrooms stuffed with baked cheese/herbs/butter is amazing. Thereâs a local restaurant near me that will serve 6-8 of them and they call it âalmost escargot.â
It depends on the mushroom, but even if you wash them, they need to be dried up quickly, because they are basically sponges as far as moisture is concerned. They'll be mushy in no time.

Instead of washing mushrooms youâre suppose to shake them out or use a damp cloth because they absorb all the water you pour on them and they donât do well when you cook
