Fascinating. About time to go buy a 20 series.
😂 at less than 100$
The 40-series pricing pushed me back to team red after 10+ years.
I grabbed an RX 6800 for $360 USD and it's been a dream. RT perf is good enough in all games except path-traced stuff, so I'm an extremely happy camper.
@@swift_samlucky you. I got a 6700 xt 2 months ago but had to return it cuz I got 2 bluescreen and constant game crashes for no apparent reason :/
@@vr0k3nWhich model? I'm ordering one right now, since I waited for the announcement and it looks like it'll be ages before we get any GPU upgrades circa $300usd price range.
@@no-barknoonan1335 it was the sapphire pulse variant. I got a 4060 instead for 330€ and it hasn't given me any problems so far
The standard 4070 really needs to drop by another $50 to $499 before it becomes worth considering, when the 4070 super is so close in price.
I think with inflation, the $599 for the 4070 Super really is not bad at all!
@@ThePalePatriot What I'm saying is that people aren't going to buy the standard 4070 when the super is only an extra $50, the 4070 should have been $100 cheaper than the super
RTX 4070 Super is just a rename RTX 4060 Super, why do you think they put the "TI" on 4070 for?
@@fohhee But the specs look so much higher than the 4060 Super, how are they the same?
@@ThePalePatriot 80,70,60, 3 level performance, 3 price range. But Nvidia wants to charge us more so no 4060.
Back to back videos!
Thnx Joe!!
I was gifted one of your acid washed hoodies for Christmas love that thing🤘
Thanks an keep up the good work Paul💯
While I'm happy to see the 4080 Super's price being lower than the original 4080, I'm disappointed that they are still using DisplayPort 1.4a. It just seems so strange considering AMD and Intel using at least DP 2.0. Feels like these revisions would have been a good opportunity for that. Thanks for the coverage, Paul and Joe!
And if I was in the market for a card it would be a deal breaker
I can only guess that it would taken some amount of extra effort on NVIDIA's side to implement this, which is why they didn't do it. One of the few reasons I'm going to stay strong with my 3080 until the 5000 series drops in 2025.
Super series is nothing more than different cuts on existing 40 series dies. Thus it only comes with features that were present in original 40 series. The main goal probably is just to sell 4080 dies so that when 50 series launches they don't have large number of unsold 4080's. If Nvidia succeeds in that then 50 series do not need to be priced in such a way that Nvidia can keep selling their 40 series after 50 series launch.
@@andyastrandi’m in the market for the upcoming 4070ti super. why is that a deal breaker for you?
@@ligokleftis monitor is 5120x1440/120Hz ... Although I think it's supposed to be supported I've had issues getting that to work with DP1.4a, I'm using a Radeon now with DP2.0 and it's fine.. I'm also keen to upgrade the monitor at some point, maybe going to 7680x2160.. I just find a big monitor is far better for immersion and enjoyment.
Scalpers will take em all. 4080S will sell way over 1200$. Good luck getting one at MSRP.
Not enough demand to scalp. Been producing these cards for 2 months now too..
@@claysmurthwaite2386No Bruh, Nvidia is limiting supply to jack the price up. Regardless of demand, there will be only one card on the shelf @$1200.
@@tringuyen7519 Except miners aren't there to save nvidia's a*s this time around. Maybe first couple weeks, the supple will be low. Gpus aren't limited edition sneakers that can be scalped indefinately.
Maybe for like 2 weeks. 4090s are the only cards inflated above MSRP for very specific reasons, which don't apply to the rest of 40 Series
Nvidia MSRP has never 'really' existed for some years.
Ahhh CES. Fun times. Wish I could be out there covering things too, but I have to work :/
Great video. There Video Cards are still Over Pric. on the Twitch Live stream, they told us about the 2080ti with the encoder and when I got it, it sucked I got Less FPS and slow video rendering. I had to use my CPU to stream.
So many people commenting on how its great that the 4080 super is cheaper than the 4080, as if retailers are actually going to price it that way. The 4080 will be $1200 and retailers will just bump the 4080S up to $1300.
I'm afraid you may be right. Until the 4080 stock drops to a reasonable level or is empty, we may never see that MSRP.
One thing that might be different this time is that it was the price, not performance of the 4080 that lead it to not selling well. I think you’re probably mostly right though. Every vendor will have like 1 token MSRP model that’s sold out all the time and the rest of them will be $1,100-$1,200. Still I wonder if those will sell. People have simply rejected the XX80 class card above $1,000.
Even if they sold at MSRP, it would still be too expensive.
what is the founders edition?
I’m running a 970 so yes I need a new gpu but mostly for gta6 you think 50 series come out this fall? Their schedule been messed up over the years. But I’m looking at 4070 super hopefully can get em
Hey Paul, met you there last year as you were closing shop on filming that day. I didn’t get a chance to go this year but looks like not missing much compared to last year with exception of new card launches. Have fun
Question, is it beneficial to have 3D V-Cache on a GPU? If we can do it on a CPU, could it also be done on a GPU and an APU?
Hey Paul. Great content. Love it when you cover CES events. I wonder if NVIDIA will have a 4090 Super.
They should make a 4090 TI Super with 32GB of VRAM
@@MitchellTheMitch Unlikely, as that would require a redesign to the chip because due to the 512-bit memory bus that VRAM quantity would require (ok they could use 256-bit, but given the 4090 is 384-bit, it's highly unlikely they'd go down). If they did release a 4090Ti it would likely just be the fully unlocked AD102, and maybe faster memory, neither of which requries any potentially expensive redesigns.
@TheKazragore It's not that deep bro, it was just a joke
@paulshardware looking to build a new gaming rig mid year, with the current information is the 4070ti Super the best/better mid-range GPU to go with? Second to this, will it have a good life span? I currently am running at 1080 and it has been, by far, one of the best and longest running GPUs I've ever purchased.
Nah, you'd get much better value from a 7600 XT.
Question was best, not best value. So if the 4070tiS is close to the xtx performance it is probably the best "midrange" card now
4070 Ti Super is not mid range.
Building with a 7900xtx, worth waiting for early February hoping for price drops on the amd cards or will it not happen?
Can't wait to see how things compare and how much the AIB extra will be, also 4080 on the secondary will have to come down...can't wait to see how AMD responds
Asus has allready done that… 4080 super $1199… but not sure what model… so not bad actually!
Thx for the back to back CES updates!
"super" now means what the card was supposed to have been originally. The 4070 and the 4070 super should have had 16gb vram from the get-go.
hey paul, its james here. it was nice meeting u today!! hope u all the best, looking forward to ur new ces videos
10:10 well thats definitely interesting. now it depends on twitch if they enable that for non-partners because thats the real issue. partnered enables the multiple resolution options for the viewers, while the streamer just feeds them the max quality possible. non-partnered streamers have the impossible choice of a single resolution between 720p60 and 1080p60, stuck between accessibility to a wider audience or the best image quality.
They’re letting anyone request early access for this beta, not just Partners. Partners will continue to have access to transcoding on Twitch’s side.
I built a pc for the 1st time this past December. I bought almost everything on sale from Black Friday/Cyber Monday. I picked out a 4060 ti GPU for $400, based on never using anything AMD before & wanting to play games on a 2560x1440p monitor. So far it has performed well but the internet has made me well aware since that I could’ve saved money going AMD for a GPU. However I believe my monitor, a Dell G2724D for $250 which has a maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz on DP, does not have the freesync (or whatever AMD’s equivalent of G-sync is) so that would set me back more if I ever switch to AMD
Someone give me tips or a location to keep up to date with PC trends and what is the better price for performance please 😭
Imagine a 80 card for "only" $1000 being received as a "pleasant" surprise.
The bar as been set so fucking low.
Imagine being stuck on names while only performance matters.
There is a 800$ 4080 called 4070ti super.
@@Math1eu- Exactly, that's why the 4080 Super is so disappointing.
It's what we've been conditioned for. I'm still not biting though. In fact I won't buy nvidia ever again just on principle.
GTX 780 Ti MSRP in 2013 was USD 699 - that's USD 923 in 2023 money. The Titan cards that sat above the 780 Ti started at 999 - which is 1316 in 2023 dollars.
would have really rather have cut down AD102 "4080Ti" than the 4080 super but oh well, at least the price is right. really looking forward to horizon forbidden west
The price isn't right, they conditioned us to think that
NVIDIA has cut down 102. It is 4090D… msrp $1800
Your space balls reference made me happy.
9:36 We missed it! When? Just now!
Been holding out for a 4070ish level card, guess we will see where the prices settle
Let's just hope the 4080Super performs as reported.
My hope is that battlemage makes enough waves that both nVidia and AMD are forced out of this duopoly cabal
Reported? According to the specifications... it will barely be faster than the 4080.
5% faster at best
5%faster on Alan awake is 40fps to 42 fps in 4k that’s very nice

What about if these have Display Port 2.1?
DP 1.4, wait for 5000 series
As someone who was smugly thinking "all I need is a 7900 XTX and I'm good and to hell with RT and AI stuff," I'm now ready to fight someone like a feral cat for a 4080 Super on launch day. I'm building my first, fresh build and I might as well have the Super features rather than get the XTX and constantly question whether I needed them or not. Especially since XTXs are still $959+ since December.
Ya, they are 1350$ Cad(xtx) , the XT is $1100 K canadian on average. 4080's are a good 1600$ Cad. So ya, not lining up for the 4080, but I am for the 4070ti super lol
I can't find a 4080 for under $1200, and it's a Zotac. Do we really think the 4080 Max Extreme AI Founders Edition+ is going to be available for MSRP?
I feel bad for anyone who bought a 4080 for christmas
Can they get a refund ? ha ha ha ha
That’s their fault. We’ve known these cards have been coming for months now.

10240 CUDA cores,
2,55Ghz boost,
2,21Ghz base
Any idea of when reviews of these cards will be coming out?
The 'usual' time ;)
4080 and 4070ti do not get a price drop since they are silently discontinued already and it's going to be reseller's problem to get rid of remaining stock at whatever price they can.
Have a feeling that the MSRP will not actually be met. It may launch at that for about a month, then its going to go up to 1200+ after to fill in the void
Nvidia making the GPU market stagnant like when Intel had a hold on cpus.
it'll take a miracle for AMD and/or Intel to catch up though.
Is AMD and Intel doing anything about it? If yes go buy them and stop whining
@@RM-el3gwWhat do you mean by catch up? Both AMD and Intel are already offering much better value GPUs at every price point.
TBF, AMD's 7900xtx has barely budged in the past 3 months at least. Only during the rare sale was it at a discount (but still heavily overpriced)
@@TheRealSkeletor What he means is that right now AMD is providing software based "solutions" to mimic Nvidia's cutting edge hardware driven and AI driven innovations.
My 3060ti is still rocking hard :p. Not making a 4070ti super FE card is pretty dumb as 3rd parties just oversize their cards to make them look more impressive.
Technically bigger is better though as it will most likely have a bigger heat sink and maybe more fans
I tell you what: I would not mind selling my 4090, pocketing $1200 and buying a 4070 Ti Super. The 4070 Ti Super is almost a 4080 for slightly less than the maximum price that would have been acceptable for a 4080 in 2022: $900. As such, being midway through the generation already, it is not great, but not terrible. Also excited to see AMD’s response, if any.
Nah, you ain't doing that. You DID buy a 4090 after all ;)
Nvidia thanks all their sheep.
Paul, when will then be now?
Probably when now is then
So should I try to nab a 4080 to hold me over as an upgrade over my 3090 (grabbing a 5080 or 5090 later)? Or would that not be a worthwhile change?
If ur 3090 does everything u need then I'd say hold out another year
Wait until the RTX4070 Ti Super Xr OC is released!
Now lets see if the MSRP's will be matched by their real retail prices!
This isn't 2020 anymore, covid times are over, they will also be for msrp unless a shortage happens or if you don't live in america, all of 2023 the 40 series cards has always been msrp and always in stock before the ban happened at the end
@@danovenaponte2370I live in America but not in USA. I live in Québec, the french state of Canada.
Lol, that's never, EVER happened for a number of years. Remember, these are NOT partner prices! 100% expect considerably more from the usual manufacturers.
Does the 4080 SUPER use 12VHPWR?
Yes
The 5000 series will need another bump down.
thanks for not taking the normal CZcamsr route & NOT bashing every piece of new premium tech over the price; another win by nvidia

So why is the 4070 super launching at the same price as the 4070? I thought the whole point was to lower prices.
I’ll just wait for 5000 series
Sure !
Does anyone know why RDR2 shows up in the RTX-featured games slide? To my knowledge, in addition to a quick search to confirm, it still doesn’t have RTX in it. Strange…
DLSS?
RTX is just nvidia branding for GPU features. It doesn't mean that it has ray tracing. Ray tracing is not RTX.
The 4070 super Ti looks to be the better option of the 3 but nice to see them back off pricing on the 80 series
4080 price has dropped already in the UK
Still not good enough idk what to replace my 1060 6gb with. I always liked the 60 series but 4060/ti are disgustingly poor value. Probably just a 4070 or something from amd. But also idk if these new gpu’s will even work with my 6 year old pc/motherboard
80 series cards used to sell for around $600.
Now everyone is getting excited because the MSRP of the latest 80 series card is coming down to $1000.
Even before we consider the fact that people are still finding new problems with the 12VHPWR connector, these cards are too expensive for what they deliver.
PC gaming is dead.
Buy a console if you want to game.
EVGA was right. We should have seen that warning sign for what it was.
i find my self playing more in my ps5 than in the PC, and i have a powerfull GPU (not a 4090), i only play RTS , RPG and point & click games because of the mouse... maybe AMD going midrange is not a bad a idea...
I just picked up a 4080 two days ago for 1200. Ope lol
Do we know if these new cards are using the new (stupid) power plug or has NVIDIA reverted back to the standard pin?
Probably the stupid nvdia plug
They will most likely use the _revised_ stupid power connector.
yooo ces is here
I wonder if this refresh is going to be plagued with scalpers like the last couple of launches. Artificial "low supply".

Still rockin my 3080ti. When I get a decent amount of money, I'll upgrade my computer. Until then, it's all going to groceries and bills and gas.
The thing that bugs me about any new graphics card is the insistence of using band-aids like DLSS and FSR to get higher FPS. A 80 series card should be a powerhouse without having to resort to band-aids in current games. Maybe if game devs focused on improving the game engine instead of adding a battlepass, microtransactions, or DLC that's only a few hundred kb (because we know the DLC is just a unlock for content that's probably already in-game.)
Yeah same im sticking with my 3080 until the 5000 series. I do want to upgrade my CPU (Ryzen7 5800) and motherboard now though.
Upscaling is the best thing to happen to gpu hardware in a long time. DLSS is fantastic, especially at 4k. It's opened up the door to mid range hardware being capable of driving high refresh 4k for the first time. Granted it's not as good as native but it's not far off and still considerably better than 1440p native.
@@mojojojo6292I can't stand the dlss picture quality. I would much rather run at native 1440 than dlss 4k personally
@@qp2044 4k with DLSS quality looks significantly better than 1440p native. That's not even subjective. There's plenty of less demanding games you can run native then as well. I have a 1440p and a 4k monitor anyway so I can choose to use whichever makes sense.
@@mojojojo6292 I have both options right next to each other in similar specs, and never use the 4k unless it's native. It is not subjective at all. I don't like the image quality. It's not bad that it exists, but like frame generation, it's better to just have the real thing
RTX 4070 Super is just a rename RTX 4060 Super, why do you think they put the "TI" on 4070 for?
The early adopter tax just keeps getting steeper. I quit doing it with the 20 series. Now I wait. Usually, within a year or so, the mid generation models come out and they're always better and cheaper. I'm going to buy a 4070 Ti Super because anything more is a waste of money on diminishing returns.
next year expect 40 ultra , nvidia are like infel refresh after refresh
Problem is you won't get one at msrp 😂 we know how this goes 🤦 they will be bought up, and resold for $1200-$1500 the day they drop.
Couldn't Ngreedia and the AIB sellers just limit it to 1 gpu sale per address per x amount of time or something along those lines to help mitigate that issue?
@@Dave7heRave doesn't matter with bots people use unfortunately. The best way to stop it would be doing pre orders but, they don't care enough 😑 all about the money.

What a coincidence that they revealed a $200 lower MSRP the same days new rose that Nvidia expects price increases due to supply issues.
Still too expensive what are you on about?
I wanna know about 4060 super I will definitely no be able to afford a 4070 super
Nvidia hits hard with those "idle & video playback" power consumptions... gr8 job nvidia, impressive power consumption figures ! 👍
Finally I can idle with 10W less than before! Saving 5€ per year :DD the more you buy the more you save
and still the stupid powerplug that can melt on these newer cards? cool....hope AIB partners wil at least use the 8 pin connector they had on the regular 4070.
"as in, helsinki sweden..."
4090 is 2000 usd
So the 4080 Super, about 5% better specs for less money... still expensive and no guarantees that it will be possible to buy at MSRP. Meh, I think I'll keep my money for 2024.
Considering the 4090 isn't 2X the performance of the 3080 Ti, and the 4080 Super will be a sliver faster than the 4080... that's a load of crap and they're clearly coming to that number via DLSS and FG. I was surprised to see the price drop, but I'm still not interested. Thinking I might grab a 7900 XTX when AMD drops the price next month.
Definitely, these are Fake Frame: On slides. Typical Nvidia marketing bullcrap.
should be more like 800...tops
Paul just casually commenting that DLSS 3 will be supported on Horizon Forbidden West, which I didn't realize even had a timeframe of when it was going to come out on PC. I doubletaked (doubletook?) thinking I saw it wrong and it was referring to Horizon Zero Dawn. Seems like some exciting news to me.
Apparently it's "early 2024", so hopefully not too long now.
after reading the marketing, are these Ai cards that play games or are they Gaming cards with an Ai focus? asking for a friend.
NVidia is totally focused on AI which is what their dies are now designed for and not so much for traditional graphics as the GTX cards were.
So the Tensor cores and the Ray Tracing cores are now remarketed as technology to generate fake frames instead of doing the rasterization and shading as the old CUDA cores were although CUDA cores/shaders are still present(they're also used in the AI software stack).
So NVidia is trying to sell AI generated imagery as the future of gaming.
My own take is that with the advent of tuned LLMs and AI generated audio(speech, music) as well as LLM based NPCs I think gaming with AI features is going to be what most game devs are going to focus on.
So expect even more AI centric features in future NV cards.
@@glenyoung1809 Because it is the future. It has already revolutionised the 3d rendering space with all software using it seeing massive rendering time boosts and an infinitely faster and more accurate viewport. The same is being applied to real time games. Still needs time to mature but it's not going anywhere. It's already enabling path tracing in real time on modern game engines. A couple more gens of improvement and it will be mainstream. The Tensor and RT cores take up relatively very little die space compared to the cuda cores anyway. Many people buy graphics cards for more than just gaming too you know.
They're gaming GPUs with additional accelerators that speed up AI algorithms
I suspect the only reason why the 4080 Super is the price it is, is because of all of the 4090 supply going to China and being out. So they can't use the 4080 to ladder up to it like they had been, hence they now want it to be a bit more competitive.
Incorrect. The 4090 didn’t go to China. It was too powerful and US export legislation kicked in so they tried an underpowered AI 4090D which China still refused. That’s where it stands now.
Which is why Nvidia is expensive. Due to NOT being able to sell to the worlds second biggest economy. AI is too dangerous in its current form for security in China, so no chips to them
@@stumpusMaximus AIB insiders already said all their 4090 supply went straight to China when they knew of the impending ban. Not to mention they've been rerouting newer stock to nearby countries that are soft on our import bans so they still make it to China via proxy. The "ban" is performing nothing but being lip service to pretend they're doing anything about China's saber rattling.
This makes me wonder how the US seriously ever expected to enforce these sanctions to begin with. Especially when you consider they're MADE there. It's not like they're being shipped from US shores. The silicon is made there in Taiwan, the PCBs are made in China and Taiwan, and the memory is still free to be exported by Micron. They're not being sent to China so much as they're never leaving to begin with. Exactly the same thing that happened with the crypto bubble.
You have little grasp of how supply and demand works. Not being able to sell to China would _decrease_ demand and reduce prices. Now that China is gobbling up all they can before loopholes and proxies get closed up there's NO supply for the rest of the world, hence higher prices.
I've got a healthy bank balance but I've never paid more than £400 for a graphics card. Just feels too much like flushing notes down the toilet.
Second hand market is my go to and I don't think it's had even the slightest impact on the enjoyment level of my gaming experience.
add $1000 on that msrp
999?? Yeah, that is gonna be 1500-1800 at least......
People need to resist, if we all go out and buy them at 999 then we've already lost. People also need to realise that the 4080 super is anywhere between 0-5% faster than the OG 4080. You're still over paying massively for a 80 class card. This isn't like the past 80ti and 80 super cards where they were quite abit faster and closer to the 90 class and titan cards. Note that they aren't comparing results with the OG 4080 because it's barely an improvement.
Thanks for your coverage of CES 2024 - AI EDITION. 😷 😜
I think 4070 tiS will be at best like 2-3% faster than 3090 ti. Maybe I'm wrong but let's see.
This is a very good launch by NVIDIA
Hi
Yeah the prices are still out of control. I will stick with my 3080.
Still too expensive. Nvidia's moving of the Overton window on acceptable pricing overall pisses me off.
i hope some chinese GPU manufacturer becomes viable. Ngreedia keeping those prices way too high.
Going through the comments I realised the console wars exists in the pc space. Amd vs Nvidia
😂😂😂
Hopefully the prices will be indees lower!
I got so tired of this stuff and modern games, I sold my mint RTX 4090 Suprim Liquid X on eBay for $1600. I hope the buyer doesn't go and list it for higher, because I wanted someone to enjoy it without paying scalped prices!
