In this video, we do an installation, ride, and review of the new AbsoluteBlack 48/32 Oval chainring set!
Hey everyone! Just wanted to throw this comment out here, thank everyone for viewing and everything. I was curious with this channel:
What other content would you guys like to see in the cycling community? I am open to any and all suggestions. Just comment below and I can go from there!
Your dad looks awesome climbing that hill. I am installing ovals on my bike....At 80 yrs hope I can look as good as your dad one day! LOL! Great video. Thanks..
The quality of this video is superb! thanks, very informative.
Great humour, voice, and commentary skills 🤭✌️
Answered all my questions on installation. Great video. Thinking on making same upgrade to my road bike.
Bravo! great video!
Super helpful video. Thank you!
Stick an oval ring on the singlespeed mate, you'll love it, you'll be able to go up 2 teeth and get a faster average speed without making climbing any harder. 👌
Love how you can do this with your Dad. I envy you. Ride safe.
Excellent vidja tape brother
Great video, EXCELLENT humor, thx for video!!! :-) :-) :-) :-)
They do look good 🙂👍🏻
Your dad rocks!
I'm a 70 year old dad. Just installed the same set up.
i love my oval!
You may have figured this out by now, but the non-drive crank was stuck because there is a safety "tab" that must be flipped up using a flat head screwdriver. There are a number of videos on Shimano cranks that demonstrate this feature. Hope this helps next time!
The non-drive crank arm slides off only after you undo a "hidden" clip. I'm sure you found it, but you didn't show in the video for us.
Any idea how the Absolute Black chain rings compare to Osymetric chain rings? Jeez your dad is really strong on the bike....
Here's a tip. You don't have to remove the crank arm to replace the rings. But I guess it's too late now. Planning to go oval this month.
It's a shame I can't fit Absolute Black 48/32 to my Cannondale synapse as the Absolute Black is just a tiny bit wider and there just isn't enough clearance as any flex and they will / make contact with the frame. Dame shame, lover the 46/30 on my older bike.
Curious that a dual-speed setup with oval chainrings is possible: I enquired with either Absolute Black or WolfTooth a little over a year ago, and the reply advised against a dual configuration for oval chainrings. Does a 2x oval configuration work perfectly?
I also wonder why on Earth no-one but Garbaruk manufactures 107 BCD oval chainrings for user with Sram eTap AXS (DUB) crankarms.
Enjoyed the video thanks. Did you have to adjust the chain length for the smaller rings?
stevedening we didn’t. Due to the oblong shape, the chain fluctuates between a 50-46 in the small chainring. So the chain was fine! Though in some cases you may have to.
@@SandsCycling Thanks Jordan that's really helpful.
can you just use the inner 32 ring with the existing 50 or failing that, the absolute black 50?
hi i have 50-34 shimano rs410 and i want to change it to the oval black 50-34 and here north east is mostly hills do you recommend staying 50-34 ?
Bikes should come with oval chain rings. Less need to downshift at stop lights.
The crank arm slides off... lol
Haha, now I'm thinking of getting some AB to upgrade my 50/34 crankset, you reckon I should get the 50/34 AB equivalent or go for 48/32 as well? Since you mentioned on the longest side it's 50T and shortest side is 46T, I'm guessing a 50/34 oval will translate to 36T longest and 32T shortest?
The teeth translation stuff is irrelevant in my opinion of using my AB 48t/39t, it just significantly smooths out the pedal stroke and removes pedal-bobbing when standing on pedals or climbing compared with round chainrings. Plus 48t is way more efficient in cadence for the harder gears on cassette ie; 11t. Shifting and power transfer is also improved because of zero flex in the chainring as well as being lighter weight.
If you use 11t-28t or 11t-30t, then you would benefit with the 48t/36t or 48t/34t. If you run 11t-32t cassette, then you could try 50t if you own a full carbon bike.
@@millsshumps1968 I ride a 55. On my steel bike. Gain some strength. Lol I clicked on this video for my climbing bike
Did you have to resize the chain?
Is there a mark on larger chainring that tells how to position it on the crank?
There is only one curved tab on the larger one, it goes next to crank arm on top. The newer cranks have this matching curve.
Are compact chainrings that bad? i use them. and i never get to a point where i'm spinning out, even downhill.
I don’t buy your weird chainring story, however, I like your hair, it’s a FASHION
I have a question. Is it technically possible to just change the big chain ring and let the inner one be the original shimano chain ring?
Yes.yes i have it and it works perfectly
you may not need to remove the crank from the bike
The bolts used are absolute black or can I use generic ones
They come with bolts
You should’ve weighed and compared the bolts.
Yeah but do the cranks explode
lift the tab on the crank arm maybe? or better read the manual...
Every single speed or single front speed bike should have an oval chain ring with at least 20% ellipse, maybe 30%.
I use doval.oval rings work great and cheaper
You get around a bit Worzel lol
Your Dad crushed that hill.
Music was a mistake. When will people learn to leave that out.
Most inept use of an Allen key I’ve ever seen
