Very helpful, I’m just about to try these and good to have a heads up about the potential change in saddle position. Will look for any knee discomfort 👍🏻

Thanks Disco Dave. Keep me posted. Always useful to hear how folks get on when changing setup. I am doing a 3 part series of live videos regarding various bikefitting issues during July in lead up to opening up again in August. I’ll share them on CZcams 👍

Hi Coach, always good to see your videos. I'm riding 52/34 at the front & 11/30 at the back. got an event that involves long steep climbs. do you think changing to 46/30 oval will be of help in climbing as it will make it 1:1 ratio plus the benefit from the oval chairring. Thanks

I obviously can’t make the call for you but remember you get 2 more teeth at peak torque and 2 less at 270 degrees so oval offers really adaptable gear for climbing

Hello, what bolts did you used for the chain ring? Size and brand? Thanks!

  • @martintramuntbikemallorcak481

Best thing I have invested in here!! I'm getting on now (56) and The Tramuntana Mountains every day was killing my knees!! (I moved fae Edinburgh to here years ago!) and I do ride the mountains everyday... It has helped me no end... setting PR's allover again... not so sure it's the oval shape and maybe more the sub-compact chainrings. I have had a lot of trouble getting it to ride smoothly with my Dura-Ace Di2's... I seem to drop the chain when shifting from small to large chainring.. but only from 4th from bottom on rear cassette! I've tried everything... I've checked and checked to make sure I have the front mech as per AB's instructions.. and it has been done using feeler gauge! But now I have learned to live with it... and If I forget and make a mistake and it drops... I can hold it, and drop it back onto small chainring... lol.. then shift up a few gears.... But all in all... love them... Although, I'm about to receive the GRX 48/31 chainset for my Gravel bike... but I might first try it on my road bike first.... as I suspect it is the sub compact that is giving you the real benefits...

Awesome message. Thanks for sharing. I have ridden the GRX 48/31 and found the shifting awesome as the spacing in the cassette alters and you move down the rings making the shifting super smooth. Sorry you are having issues with the Cervelo shifting but sounds like you are having great fun with it 👍👍👍

@@BulletproofCycling no worries bud... but I never mentioned no Cervelo...My road bike is an F8.....(on it's last legs!) Maybe it has something to do with my bike frame... who knows... It shifts perfectly on my bike stand always.... only when out on road it does it...maybe I need a new front Derailleur...who knows.. but i'm good with how it is now...and yeah, I cant wait till the GRX 48/31 arrives... to be honest, I mostly ride my Gravel bike here... it's the best bike really for Mallorca...I go up climbs noone ever knows about... not in any of the books!! never even mentioned on forums!! but I tell u there's tons here!! but some of them are a bit broken up roads so best with gravel bike with all round tires...and u can't beat going by all the young guns on their nice road bikes (with not enough gears!!) on the climbs!! lol...I have a 11/34 on my road bike... with AB 48/32 and I have 50/34 (soon to be GRX 48/31) and I currently have 11/36 but am gonna change to a 11/42 when the GRX chainset arrives... as I do Sobremunt climb every other day....and ogther similar 20% plus ones here... and am sick of cracking cranks!!! (all shimano I haste to add!!) - anyways.. cheers for answering.... toodle pip for now... ciao

@@BulletproofCycling Hey bud... yeah.. I ride 175mm cranks.. but that was after I had a few tnkering bike fits back in my home toun (Edinburgh) - But I have cracked a few Dura Ace cranks.... (only wen I moved here to Mallorca) and was climbing mountains day in and out...(people will say, ah, but Mallorca has only short climbs at 5-6%.. okay, then I say get here and come wi me!! I'll show u climbs that make your legs scream!) - anyways, I was sick of having to re-buy dura ace cranks so I bought a second hand 10sp FD7900 crank set/chainset - and it worked with my 11sp (everything else)!! but the cranks were 172.5mm.... and I swear... I climbed waybetter and smoother and FASTER!!! as I was spinning more!!!!!!

Did you reduce the tooth count from the chainrings you had before?
I'm seriously considering going all down to a 32T (from a 36T round) to enjoy some big climbs and keep the cadence at those +13% gradients. The doubt is actually, there's a 30T option... hahhaha
