how appropriate for the first complainer to plug alibaba
If you want a cheap well anything buy it cools on you but for some buying a over priced anything is a thing don't hate you do you and we'll do the same k be safe ❤
i was gonna comment the other day about how it’s weird you never have sponsors
That was very generous of you to say that she makes food when realistically she sliced an apple and through a few raisins and drizzled some liquid on the apples on a plate🙃I physically did more writing this comment then she demonstrated in her video😅💚🔵💚
As a person has worked in the fashion/production industry, I guarantee you that bag cost no more than $10 to produce. At MOST $15.
That's what I said like WHAT 😅
That's what I was thinking as a home sewist
Exactly
Yeah I’m guessing with all overhead (like everything) $20 max, so she’s making $100 profit each which is insane!!
You do realize that almost every industry does that, right? It costs McDonald's less than a dollar to make a cheeseburger that they sell for $6 or more. Most anything you buy is manufactured for far cheaper than the sale price. I'm not saying this bag is worth $120, but complaining that something is cheaper to make than the sale price is kinda pointless. Getting mad at this girl for selling a branded bag that you probably weren't going to buy in the first place is just weird.
I think a 120 dollar canvas bag is absolutely insane
I think it is insane for the first complainer to plug alibaba
no zipper, no padding on the straps to help with the weight in that giant tote bag
@@kerri6011 that's the thing that killed me! No zipper! You want one on a tote that size...
I make my own and in total under £15 and that's if Im being fancy or buying enough stuff to put into my stash.
People actually _paying_ $120 for a canvas bag is way more insane to me
Adam Savage (Mythbusters) also has a $150-$250 bag. His is made of recycled sail cloth--heavy duty and thoughtfully designed for tools and travel. Definitely a collector item as it's numbered and all that jazz. But...he's also made the patterns available if you want to make your own. This is how you market your brand.
Savage’s bags are well made though, and he has actual skill and talent, these rich kid “influencers” have none of that.
of COURSE he made the patterns available, adam savage is one of my childhood heroes and he never disappoints 😭🖤
Oh shoot! I was never looking for a bag but I might have to add Adam’s bag to my wishlist 💀
@@THEYuYama They're really nice. And they are sized for airplane carry on. I've been stalking them for years but I can't bring myself to pay that much and my sewing skills are not up to that challenge.
I’ve made one of his EDC bags out of Ikea bags to use as my tool bag for work and it’s spectacular
"she comes from generational wealth"
*baking paper guy enters the chat* 👁👄👁
That was my thought too, but it sounds like this time its true.
N E P O T I S M
I was thinking this too! 😅
Exactly my grandparents are millionaires and they would never think to buy this tote bag. Rich people stay rich because they aren’t spending money on dumb shit like $120 tote bags for some random person on TikTok.

She’s out of touch because she was born into money and just buys the best and freshest food daily which is not cheap so $120 for a tote bag is nothing to her. But to us regular folk, that price is absurd.
Was she really? What else do you know about her? I'm curious, I've always wondered what her deal is...never been quite sure how I feel about her 🤔 lol really can't place her character..but this..definitely out of touch af.
Yup, for me in Aus, that $120 is the bulk of my weekly grocery shop for myself and an 11yr old. Not including fresh fruit/veg aside from one type for school lunch....
And where I live, our farm to plate is insanely close... As in some of it comes from less than an hour away, including then grown and being processed/packed, and it's STILL fucking insane expensive.
Oranges/mandarins are $15 a kilo where I am atm ffs lol
I’m not a regular folk, I’m actually three owls in a trenchcoat and I also think that is a ridiculous price
I mean, I don't see how $120 for this bag is any different than $1k or more for a Gucci bag. Normal folks ain't buying $1k bags either, but y'all ain't ready to cancel the big designers, are ya?
I got a similar tote bag for free when I spent $50 at Roaman’s
25m views, on a video with sliced apple+peanut butter, cinnamon and some berries. WTF. Are we doomed?
I couldn’t agree more. I don’t understand why people actually find it interesting enough to watch 🤷🏻♀️it bores me to tears 🥱
The usual answer is that it's disguised fetish content.
@@TheSkarekrow04 i dont think this is but often its related to how they edit the video and the sounds.
@xiemus you forgot the honey! Clearly that makes all the difference 😂
Food stuff always goes viral on tiktok.
What gets me is that for a canvas grocery tote, the fabric seems really thin, leading to an unstructured tote.. she has to hold it by the handles in all the videos to give it the impression that it stands up by itself. Personally, for a $120 grocery tote, I'd expect something more structured, like the LL Bean tote... heavy duty, you know?
I sewn myself a structured tote bag for a fraction of the price, even when I bought my supplies at high retail cost.
@@karine-v I know, right?? I'm doing the same rn for a friend's birthday gift, and it's crazy how simple (albeit work intensive!) it is to make a drastically better tote
yeah $120 is a lot but if its a high quality sturdy bag I could see that price tag. But its got to be built to take a beating and last if I'm putting that much into it.
I have a tote bag that has pretty solid structure and is in a great condition after 5 years of continuous use (I use it 5 days a week, bringing a laptop in it as well as other things), water resistant, and only cost me around 80 USD import tax included. For a $120 bag, I expect more than what I saw here.
@@FreyjaRKim I 100% agree, I still think $120 would be too much but I could at least see an argument to be made if it had all of those features!
omg, Costco sells one for 6.99 insulated, with zipper to close and pocket outside with zipper as well and a pocket inside with very durable fabric outside... shameful
If I pay $120 for a canvas tote it better come with a $100 gift card for the grocery store😭😭
As a bagmaker, I would charge ~$75-80 for an XL tote like that I make with my own hands and sewing machines. It would probably have custom fabric (canvas or waterproof canvas) and I’d probably throw on some embroidery design and extra pockets.
My friend sells tote bags those size and charges £30. And they are beautiful, great fabric and she makes them herself. $80! Well, if people buy them from you, I guess it works for you
@@Leleche $75 is only 60 pounds. Considering everything (materials, shipping, housing, food, drinks, transportation, holidays, tips, sales tax, etc) in the US is much much more expensive than in the UK it makes perfect sense.
@@Lelecheand your friend is underselling their work to try to compete in the market
@@Leleche your friend is under selling
@@Leleche - Custom fabric can be $22 a yard (£17 a meter) and up depending on type. Then I factor in the cost of other materials like needles, thread, interfacing, buttons, snaps, magnets, webbing to name a few, time, adding the embroidery, etc. For regular fabric that is ~$8 a yard (£6 a meter) the price is lower.
Additionally, I don't make things for the masses. My items are for a niche market (I sell at smaller comic cons, oddity markets, etc) that will value it because it fits their fandom or narrow interest.
It's imperative that makers and artists factor in their time in order to pay themselves a wage. Your friend is not factoring in her time that it takes to make the bag.
Influencers are some of the greediest people on the planet. 120$ for a generic tote is ridiculous
Not even generic, every grocery store has better totes 💀
L.L. Bean makes a very similar totebag, also 100% cotton and made in the USA like Mariko's bag. Mariko's bag was made in California and L.L. Bean's bag is made in Maine. It does not have the inside zippered pocket but instead has a reinforced bottom. Yes, being made in the USA with 100% cotton does raise the price from what you can get from Temu, Wish, etc., however L.L. Bean was able to sell theirs for $35 and for a small fee with put the customer's name on it.
LL Bean looks like MUCH better quality for half the price!
I was thinking that this tote should not be selling for more than $30 or $40. The pink bag is cute, but it's not $120 cute.
Yes I have an LL Bean bag and highly recommend it. The reinforced bottom is so nice, the fabric is amazing quality, and you can add your OWN name to it!
For the price of a bag or 2 of hers you could get a free or used serger and harbor freight dropcloth and start your own business. The biggest cost would probably be the business license or machine service😂
Temu is based in London.
Wish are based in China.
Temu and wish are very different.
There’s literally zero reason that she should be charging $120 for that piece of cloth.
What's even sadder is that the fruits and veggies she purchased probably cost the same amount as the tote bag.
The expression 'a fool and their money are soon parted' exists for a reason.
And it’s their choice to spend money on something like that. This controversy makes no sense to me.

@@athenarocks7657 My point exactly.
Influencers wouldn’t be able to do this to people if people didn’t allow it. I’m not spending $120 on something to put dirty fruit and veggies into it.
But so many people form these parasocial relationships and really think buying an influencer’s overpriced product is going to make the influencer love them. It’s shameful on both sides.
I'm convinced at least half the sales are to scalpers
100%!!!
it's really sad honestly I try ti talk to my friends kids about this because it's so weird the way ppl defend certain ppl who don't even know they exist and revolve their entire lives and personality around ppl they don't know and never will
@@LeeAnnStar I’m a parent and you’re so right that young people are more affected by this. When she’s making her own financial decisions, I don’t want her falling for these scams.
@@sebeed2324agreed. That and I also think she had VERY limited products, so they’d sell out fast. Gives her audience the impression that the demand is high and they’ll have to act fast to get something in her next drop. Companies and influencers do it all the time.
Food prices are at a RECORD HIGH in the United States. Even fast food is at a record high. Her food lifestyle alone is unobtainable for most people. Her $120 tote is gross.
Someone should ask "if I'm paying 120 bucks for this bag can I have my name in it instead of yours?" 😂
I’m small business. I sell my product for 3x its “cost” to produce but I was told I needed to put it up 2x more than that to “make a profit.” which was insane to me I don’t have a shop front so my overheads was postage which people paid themselves. I covered tax storage and manual labour of postage and advertising material with a bit more profit just for myself. The crazy price gouging blows my mind.
this you need to just charge enough that you can cover expenses with a bit more so you make a profit or incase something happens
The real question is, when can we expect a Markie baseball hat? I think you could price it around $175.
If you have an island in your white, clean modern kitchen and a stainless steel two door fridge, you/your family is rich.
Careful the upper middle class is gonna come and scream that they grew up broke 😂😂😂
Exactlyyyyy
you can buy a private island for as low as 10k-12k. that’s still a lot of money, but it’s not as unattainable as it sounds (far less than buying a plot of land in the US for the most part)
Can’t wait to tell my wife it turns out we are rich! 😂
The problem is that when you buy something from a influencer or a celebrity you are not buying a product, it's almost like you are buying the "person, the lifestyle", so there's no point in argue the price and say that's pricey or not, because when you buy a tote from Amazon, that's just a tote, but if you buy a Gucci tote, that's a "fashion statement", an information to the others about you, you have money, you follow this person or that person, you have this or that lifestyle. So yes, it's ridiculous the price, but people chose to pay because they want something from that person and that person only.
Yep
That’s just exploiting delusional parasocial people who need mental help not someone to price gouge them.
On a side note, if you buy Gucci from the shelf you aren’t rich enough to get the good stuff tbh. Owning Gucci bag 3,456,123 is a bag like many others not their 1 of 10 or whatever stuff they sell to the ultra rich.
I'm not about to get mad about other people spending irresponsibly. I think this is outrage for the sake of outrage.
Absolutely true. This also works in Kpop/Jpop artist fandom. Companies sell basic merchandises at exorbitant price, but fans will still buy them.
My gas bill is $121 this month, I'll be paying my gas bill.
Didn’t she get the bags from a SUPER cheap website for like $10, that’s what’s all over TikTok and is part of the reason why people are upset.
People can sell their stuff at whatever price they want to sell it at. On the other side people can share their opinions of what they think about that price. Be it positive or brutally negative
It’s a cheap tote bag that’s definitely not worth $120! Someone else posted a TikTok with a bag pretty much the same size etc BUT amazing quality, enforced bottom AND you can personalise it with whatever you want…..for $40!!!!
It’s L. L. Bean that makes the totes you’re talking about!! 😊
Another day another Tiktok character unlocked 🎉
Someone needs to make a character wiki
I started this not sure who she was…5 minutes in I’m like oh the RIP OFF TOTE BAG GIRL! 😂
That’s the only thing I’ve heard of her for too
I used to watch her when she was just starting CZcams and I can’t believe how popular she is now and what she’s become 🥴
Honestly, apparel and related items are always sold at a really high markup. I work for a company that produces embroidered clothing for various schools and a hoodie costs like $2-3 for us to buy, about a dollar to embroider and the schools sell them for like $60-70 so I can see why people are upset but it's also a completely normal thing for fashion brands to do
She is not a "fashion brand". She's a woman who made some videos with food. Period. Then she bought a bunch of tote bags in bulk, had her name sewn in and decides her name alone makes this bag worth 100 more than it RETAILS for. She likely paid much less per bag. You could buy the exact same tote, design your own label and have someone sew it I for half of what she's selling it for.
@@mommy2libras this is still literally how a majority of apperal companies operate. Hell, I literally saw a place selling a white and red scarf for over $170 today. Do I think it's worth it? hell no. but people with money to burn do and they buy it. The same with this bag. People can bitch and complain about it all they want but at the end of the day she's made her name into a brand that people want to buy enough that she was able to sell as $10-$20 tote for a significant profit. Good on her and every other brand that's able to do stuff like that 🤷♀

Shes just some spoiled girl. She doesn't compare to a big company with a well known reputation and high quality items. Shes selling cheap cloth.
This reminds me of cookie gate, and influencers being elitist about the expensive stuff they sell, like, oh too bad if you can't afford it but there are people who can afford it so that justifies the price...
So disgusting to take advantage of your following like that 🙄
It isn’t taking advantage though? No one is forced to buy this shit. Your favorite influencer will not like you more because you bought her tote bag. She put a product up for sale- idiots with no financial literacy bought it. It isn’t anyone else’s job to make sure people are making good financial decisions. You show people who sell shit you are unhappy with their pricing by not buying their product. That’s how the free market works. This isn’t a life saving or sustaining item- so it isn’t price gouging, it’s just being bad at business.
She was born rich too, she’s just a greedy person.
@@glampixie plenty of people are born wealthy. Don't watch that if it offends you.

I made a canvase bag with a front pocket in home economics class in 1992. I still have it and use it 32 years later.
At today's costs for materials and time, it was no more than 10 dollars in cost to make.

I made a canvas bag when I was 14, taking a sowing course. It held up for maybe four-five years.... But I was using it daily as a school bag, carrying heavy books around. I cant wait for the day that "influencer age" finally ends. Im getting so exhausted of these folks
Me too. All this influencer drama is fun to watch, tbh, but we’re at a point where kids are saying “influencer” when asked what they want to be when they grow up, and that feels…kinda dystopian to me. There’s a lot of funny, down to earth, awesome influencers out there, but sometimes the bad ones definitely seem to outnumber the good ones.

A luxury product?!? What is it, luxury canvas? Or luxury zipper I bet.
$120 for a bag is insane, but also... lets not take away agency from people. she asked for that price for some reason, and apparently some people were dumb enough to buy it. its the same like with "luxury" brands. i cant understand why anyone would want the bag or anything "luxury" brands put their logo on, but if people want to spend their money on ridiculously overpriced, ugly things then let them
How is this any different than people buying a white t-shirt with “Supreme” written on it. Would I buy this? No. Is she hurting anyone by selling this? Also no. No one is forcing people to buy this.
I agree somewhat.
I think that the issue is that it’s predatory pricing and/or marketing, and that is worth addressing in some capacity.
Bringing up the topic can remind the average consumer to do their due dilligence before buying.
People acting like it’s a grave mortal sin tho...? idk man it’s extreme lol.
You have the perfect voice for 2X speed. Also, thanks for covering this crazy story. Hadn’t heard about her until now but that wild!
Congrats editor. Love Bailey on the hard hat! Quality work
I wouldn’t pay that much for a tote bag, but if if someone else would then that’s up to them. I don’t get why people get so mad over things like this.
I mean, I get why the strawberry cup was so pricey - it really was handmade, from start to finish. and that means a lot of hours (and some materials, and tools) spent creating it. Even if the style is not in line with my aesthetic, I can absolutely appreciate the labour behind it. I may also get a 120$ tote - if it was handcrafted, and full of original details! But here we obviously have a basic, boring product that costs a tiny fraction of 120$, marked up to an insane amount, by someone who doesn't even seem to be that empathic or relatable (I mean, let's be honest here, farmers' markets are not something that "everyone" can afford, especially - I'm guessing - in big cities in the US)... I really wish people would stop being so gullible!
The strawberry cup with the 2 handles? That cup was not “handmade” it was made from a premade mug mould. The artist just poured the ceramic into it glazed it and then painted it. There was another ceramic artist on TikTok who actually hand makes her mugs with a wheel and clay and they’re beautiful she charges $20 dollars for her mugs.
People really do just want to justify price gouging in the name of “small businesses” lol 😂
The mug story scares me because I keep seeing people claim that if it's made with a mould, it isn't homemade. That's a bad sentiment to hold. I'm somebody who buys handmade rpg dice. They're made with resin moulds, but they're still handmade. My sister bakes bread. She uses moulds, but it's still handmade.
Just as bad is the argument that if one person is selling something for one price than there is no reason that anybody should sell their products for a higher price. Both of these arguments could be disastrous for independent crafters if people really start to believe them.
@@MissInformation_ tell me you don't care about the price of someone's time without actually saying it, I guess, lmao.

Let’s be honest, people don’t buy influencer items because they are worth the price. They buy them to support the person they watch. If someone wanted a random tote bag they’d just buy one from a local grocer.
The only way i think it's okay to ask that price is if you're also very transparent about the costs to make it.
Sustainable and fair labor and materials are 2 big factors that really drive up price. I can imagine if i made that bag myself i could maybe end up around that price after adding some profit margin.
There is a consumer base for ethical products like that and i imagine it would probably overlap with her audience somewhere but like i said, there needs to be basically a 100% transparent breakdown of the reason it costs so much.
$120 can get me at least 100 reusable grocery bags from any store.
That people take offense that her life is unobtainable...just swipe to something else. If one takes it as a personal attack, go offline.
I am assuming that when you posted it this was sold out. However I am in Canada and I can tell you it was only sold out for a few hours and suddenly was available. many drops of products from so called influencers do this a marketing of their product. I have been noticing this tactic for years.

120 bucks for a bag is stupid. But if idiots are willing to pay for it, then why shouldn’t she sell them for that!
I know. I feel like people don’t take enough personal responsibility. Being an idiot with money doesn’t mean they were taken advantage of.
This is particularly interesting to me given I'm taking a college economics course right now. Just picturing the supply/demand graphs for something like this is making my head spin. It's no wonder there are so many people complaining-- only a very small fraction of the people who see it are going to be willing to pay that price.
Also, just for note, minimalism isn't my thing, so these bags just look very plain to me. I could understand a bit more if it had embroidered designs on it or something, but if its just plain canvas, I don't see it being worth the price tbh.
0:57 commenting before the video starts but I’ve followed this creator for years, esp on insta, why have I not heard of this “scandal” until now? 😮 can’t wait to hear what’s up!
I don’t see how it’s any different from a $10 per month Patreon subscription for 1 year, with a free tote bag thrown in as thanks.
People are already donating to streamers/CZcamsrs /influencers they like and expecting nothing in return except for more content.
Anyway, it sounds like people are more upset about the system they live in than this one person that is using it. Millions of people put this woman on a giant pedestal, then a few of them climb up only to erect another one on top and say, “do better.”
She’s not the cause of overpriced white label products.
All of this could have started and stopped at, “the bag is ugly and overpriced and we’re not gonna buy it.” Everything else is just folks hating that they have to go to work while she gets to sit at home and make lunch for a living. Another day on social media 🤷🏾♀️ lol
Not Daniel Preda. His new review series is hilarious. Also he was in the Gabby Hannah things and used to be friends with Colleen. Small world.
I feel like it's a slow news day, but that's okay. Hope you're well!
Majority of stores have minimalistic bags that can barely fit your phone for 200+. I can understand the mugs a bit, but honestly if you walk in a women's bag/purse ile you'll be seeing much smaller for much more.
Also many people aren't taking into account why *merch* is so expensive. Its for fans to get something designed and branded my an influencer, not an i need this. And a lot of the time merch is more expensive then if you were to buy it elsewhere because they have to go through a manufacturing company, pay for the materials, construction, and shipping while also trying to make a profit. Depending on the state and the company this process can cost a lot more then just doing it yourself can. Expensive influencer merch is not new
A purse and a canvas bag are very different things. Don’t be so dense.
if u don't like the lifestyle she flaunts, don't watch her content. if you can't afford a bag she puts for sale, don't buy it. can't lie i'm a bit sick of this "whataboutmeism" and how rampant its getting on social media. if someone doesn't meet someone elses exact needs and wants they think they should cancel them
“She gets up in the morning. She makes her apples” is the overhead narration I need in my life 😂
This is why I very seldom purchase merchandise peddled by "influencers."
The last video is Daniel helped film(?) Joey’s escape the night - they both kinda had beef. Great video!
Do I think the tote bags are overpriced for what they are? Definitely.
Would that make me outraged? No. If there are idiots who decide to buy overpriced product that is not essential, it’s none of my business.
$125 is RIDICULOUS for any bag, but nobody is being forced to buy one😂 Don't buy it if it's too pricey!😂
Not me waiting for something to happened on the 25M video for the entire thing be some sliced apples peanut butter and honey! Like?! No personality, no satisfying transitions, cinematic or creative editing.. NOTHING! Damn, not even the usual rage bait or nudity lmao
