That's often a good indication that something is bad quality. They bank on you assuming that "you get what you pay for" means it will be astronomically better.
People who are good deserve to be paid fairly, but you see it with most products. If the going rate for a Moisturizer is $10-50, the $50 stuff might be better, but the $500 one is probably a scam.

The tattoo artist was probably “closing down her business” because in order to sue someone for defamation you have to prove damages. Oh yeah that's obviously the grift. Charge exorbitant amounts for the design, ridiculous amounts for any amendments, and completely insane amounts for the actual work so they're put off and never get beyond the initial sketch stage.
Cos how long would her initial design take to do even if she didnt trace it? An hour, maybe? If she gets $1000 for it, thats more than most people get for several days or even a weeks work. She could have DOZENS of these on the go at any time, with no intention of ever putting ink to skin on any of them. And even if someone has the money and likes her designs, she's getting multiple thousands for the work when most (more skilled) artists are charging far less.

Which is wild to me. Artists doing sketches is like the most basic thing we do on an almost daily even if they're not full pieces. The amount of sketches and doodles on my homework pages in school was on par with what's in a sketchbook lol.

I don't remember if it was the woman featured on this one who wanted the sunset over the sea tatt or a different one (post initial tattoo gate)... but I remember there was one person who thought Lindsey Joseph couldn't be as bad as everyone was saying, thought that she was being treated badly, and that she would give the "artist" a chance to prove herself. Then it backfired horribly.
Some people are not always good at recognising red flags, some people are "colour blind", or they just think too much good of people. Naivety is one issue, but also, not everyone is aware of the drama and may have just stumbled into it like Courtney & Ri both did.
There may also be people who see an opportunity to get some online drama clout by putting a little money into it...a couple thousand on a mediocre tattoo but it can potentially bring millions of views... 🤷 it's not the smartest move, but given the things some people will do to try and make it famous on social media...it wouldn't surprise me.

She was recommended by a friend who got a tattoo by the same person, and she ended up building trust with that scam artist during that time. When tattoo gate happened, the scam artist convinced her that it was all lies, and since they already knew each other, she trusted her.
