Recovering from open heart surgery. Six weeks ago I had a double heart bypass and replacement valve operation. This little series of videos records my journey back to climbing hills and mountains in Scotland elsewhere. I'm not a medic in any sense but if others are facing heart surgery I'm only too happy to share my experience.
I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.

Great effort Cameron! Truly an inspiration to us all !!! Well done you for getting out on them hills. I started watching this and was worrying about you in the wilderness until you started your chat. Thankfully that put me and I'm sure lots of folk more at ease. Well done again Cameron. Regards John,Helensburgh

I’m a stroke survivor and in the last year I’ve had 2 new knees, the last one one week ago so I can empathise with you. I’m looking forward too to getting back into the hills. Good luck to you ❤❤.

I had an emergency triple bypass 18 months ago …. My Labrador and I do 5 miles a day, everyday (North Pennines and Lake District and I’m thinking of a short backpacking trip soon …. Well done you 🐕🤣

Another great video diary Cameron, thanks.
I had a heart attack in 2010 in Ratagan, getting ready to do the Kintail Sisters.
HeliVaced to The Golden Jubilee in C/bank.
    No Heart Bypass required(yet)
    Medication only.
Diagnosed as Dilated Cardio Myopathy, now after Covid I’ve been promoted to ‘Heart Failure’
    Brilliant eh🙄
The best recommendation for anyone with a heart condition is to avoid ALL alcohol.
So no more single malt for me, unfortunately.
A slow and gradual return to the hills and now plenty of time to bird watch, especially for Golden Eagle, Dotterel, Golden Plover Ring Ouzel etc etc.
Roll on spring and summer ❤️❤️

Great to see you out again. I was in the Arrochar Alps last week on the hills for the first time after having a full hip replacement. It’s all about having a graduated plan to build up your fitness and stamina to get back to where want to be, but not rushing or short cutting the process. Thanks for sharing.

Well done, Cameron. It speaks well to your overall level of hillwalking fitness that you're back at that level only 6 weeks after surgery. Best wishes for a continuing recovery, and here's to seeing you out on the Munros soon.

Hope to go to East Neuk next week. Stayed at Tentsmuir once but got chased off in the morning. Wasn''t very campervan friendly...
