- A promised progress report now I'm almost six weeks post-open heart surgery. I hope these reports may encourage others who are going through the cardiac issues that I've faced, or those who think open heart surgery is the end of everything!
I'm based in the Scottish Highlands and I use a VW campervan to access the great outdoors, where I climb hills, ride my e-bike or gravel bike and just visit some of those places I've never been to. I've been climbing hills and mountains all over the world for 50 years and I'm a former editor of Climber Magazine and The Great Outdoors Magazine.
Keep on walking Cameron get back to the big hills soon and take care

Cheers Dave, I think I'll need to have a chat to you sometime about diets and healthy eating, although curiously my cholesterol levels have always been OK - my arteries are blocked with calcium.

Hi Cameron. I had the exact same operation as you, back in 2016 in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. It took about three/four months to get back to work and be fully recovered. I am still going strong in 2024. Looking forward to more of your walking/camping vids once you get back fully on your feet.
Glad it's a success & you're getting back out there. You've always inspired my walking adventures. Your 'Wilderness Walks' series, which I still watch occasionally, had a huge effect on me as have some of your books & articles. All the best & thank you.

Great news and keep positive. I had a massive heart attack 4 yea ago and although a bit slow recovery at first, I now feel better than I have for many years. Hoping for the same for you.
That's a good pace you had going there the "Pacemaker" is obviously working. Seriously though it's good to see you up and about and sooner or later I'm sure the Munros will come calling.

Great to see you oot 'n aboot again, are you driving yet? I never saw the benefit of the walking sticks, to be honest I'm a tight ar**d walker. But I picked up a stick that the foresters had left in a pile and used it. What a difference on the uphill sections. Next video will be the Caravaggio and the Munro's,eh? Take care Cameron.
Can start driving this week. Six weeks not driving has been the biggest downside to my recovery.
@@CameronMcNeishOutdoors I can imagine not being able to just get in the van and go must be a big drawback. I've had a license since I was a teenager and even driving a wee bit before I was legal to. You'll be counting down the days.
