  • Painting with Hake's this time!
    I never did a whole painting with those big flats!
    After a photo from Lois Davidson.
    I did like it, and determined to use them more often!
    The Colours I name in the video. Ranson used Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Lemon Yellow, Light Red, Alizarine Crimson and Paynes grey

    Not sure why it's taken me this long to find you here on YT, Edo, but I've been binge watching your tutorials and absorbing so much. You have such a cool, no nonsense style of painting, which makes it quite easy to leave with complete confidence in my own abilities. You break the paintings down and demonstrate using a limited palette. Too many choices can lead to confusion, so I appreciate your methods and materials. Please continue to post these wonderful lessons and I know many of us will return and support your efforts, Edo. Count me in as a new subscriber, too. Thank you!

      Thank you so much for your nice comments. really encouraging to make more videos! I keep things simple because when you know how it is not that complicated. it takes a bit of courage and knowing how wet your brush is. mixing colours comes natural to me because I work for 40 years in the graphical industry. But I use not more then 3 or 4 pigments for a painting! It helps me but it helps the painting even more! balance and harmony are easier with a few colours.

      Edo Hannema Watercolour Art hi. You wouldn’t believe how much better they look now that they dried completely. I wrote down the names of the paint colors and I used exactly the same colors....although the colors could vary from company to company. All that to say, I used lemon yellow and I mixed it until it looked like your first warm layer and the painting on the right is a lot more yellow in the sky than the painting on the left. The other one has a peach toned sky with blue and clouds. I used a dab of crimson on both. I did these at the same exact time. I’m so glad I did. I got a perfect tree on the first one and much better perspective on the next one. I wish I could move the tree over-laugh. But both trees look great now that they dried. So fun. I imagine tomorrow’s version will be completely different like you said about the cows. I painted the same village over and over again until I can now do it quickly. How many times did you paint this exact painting? Once? Or more. You’ve been painting longer than I have. I could learn a lot from you. I’ll subscribe!

      Edo Hannema Watercolour Art ...well, I will still insist that you have talent because I watched you paint this beautiful masterpiece right before my eyes with the fewest brushstrokes humanly possible. I’m putting myself through much training here on CZcams. I started with nature observation by painting or drawing exactly what I saw in the leaf or sand dollar and to my surprise it worked. Watercolor is my favorite medium so far. I have to go over parts up to 6 times because the color fades as it dries. Do you have a favorite paint company and paper? Will I learn all about that from your other videos?

    • @EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art
      @EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art  Před 5 lety +1

      @@catherinelevison3310 Thanks again Catherine! I paint mainly on paper from StCutbertsmill, they have three sort of papers in different sorts. rough hot pressed and cold pressed. You have Bockingford a hard surface watercolour paper. by hard I mean the pigments stay more on the surface. then you have Saunders Waterford, a paper that can take a lot of abuse! Watch my latest video and see the dark brushstroke I put in over the water in the beginning and how soft it dries afterwards. And there is Millford, a heavy sized somewhat water resistant surface that dries as light powder and paint like a dream! I use Rembrandt, Schmincke and Old Holland for pigments. And I have a box of Kremer pigments! Also Daler Rowney and W&N. I am a addict about painting stuff! I could begin a store! ;-)

      They do hold a lot of water, and water control is so important with watercolour. Try a old towel. and give the hake every time a rest on that towel . so you always have the right amount of dampness in your brush. in the garden or plein air you could give it a good sweep!
