Ron Ranson influenced so many painters with his Fast & Loose methods that he taught for many years. He introduced the Hake brush to beginners as the perfect brush to create impressions, and not get bogged down with too much detail.
He recommended sketching thumbnails to experiment with composition ideas and making tonal sketches to check values, in order to see what works and what doesn't before committing to an expensive piece of watercolour paper.

Beautiful, Louis. Great instructions. You make it look so easy! Thanks for the reminder about the thumbnail sketches for composition and values. So helpful!
Your landscapes demonstrations all
look so easy watching your painting! Looking forward to try your technical tips and advice. Thank you for sharing. 👍
Once again another wonderful landscape. 👏
very beautiful, thank you for demonstrating. I typically paint using acrylic and my biggest mistake with watercolor is overworking my paint. 🙃
You are one of my favourite water colour artist...
God bless you dear... In short time I will also update my watercolor work.
Thanks, Lois. Lovely rigger work. Very much enjoying getting caught up on your videos.
Beautiful.
Great video for beginners super simplified. I bet Ron would love it.
Joe Menza Thanks Joe! What a great compliment, much appreciated 💐💐
@@LoisDavidsonArt You deserve it. You have obviously worked very hard at this in a short period of time.
The funny thing is it isn’t hard work at all, it’s an exciting journey!
Lois Davidson hard work isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
Excellent as ever, Lois.
davidsimper Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it 😊💐

So beautiful and delicate, Lois. Like a Japanese or Chinese painting.
Terrific

George Uber Thanks so much for your generous comment, it means a lot, and thank you for your support 😊🖼🎨
Sooo pretty I love it!! Stay in touch 🌸🎨
Enjoyed this tutorial very much. Perylene green is one of my favourite colours. Thank you .
Thanks for the video. Your trees are so realistic, which is what I’ve been working on for months. I agree with you trees must look realistic thanks again.
Thanks Mick, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video, trees like these just take a bit of practice with the rigger and the thin enough paint to produce the look of canopies. But what really helps is doing a few quick sketches first to make sure they are going to look right in the composition. Many thanks again and happy painting 🖼🎨
I hope you Don,t mind me saying this, You are such a talented painter, You give me hope, For other painting , I hope i can copy, Thank you so much Rob

Magnifique
Wonderful Tutorial...
Richard B Lewis Thanks 😊💐
Hi Lois VERY Nice! I know you answered my question about the narrow format , it would be nice to have it wide but thats ok. Still love your work. Merv
This is really lovely. I've always loved a limited palette. Now I'm tempted to drop my current project and paint along with this one!! Perylene green!! What could be an equivalent Lois? Viridion? Hookers? The combination with Paynes worked very well I must say.
Barbara Gemin Thanks Barbara, I discovered the perylene green on a review video but you can make similar with Prussian blue and either raw sienna or burnt sienna, or lemon yellow. I look forward to seeing your painting!!! 🎨🖼💕
@@LoisDavidsonArtthanks Lois. I sometimes use Prussian blue and the siennas for good greens.
I like to add Napthol Red to my greens for a nice muted landscape green
Great tutorial, thank you! What hake brush did you use in here? (Size and brand/series) I can’t seem to find the right one in local shops in my city. Cheers :)
Thanks, I uses small, medium and large Pro Arte Ron Ranson hake brushes
So simple but so effective, you seem to have a way with a limited palette and hake/rigger brushes
Thanks so much Derek, with the hake, it is mostly about controlling the water to paint ratio, and that comes with practice and trial and error! In my case, lots of trial and errors! I might do a video about how I control the water as it seems to be something that some people find difficult with the hake.
Lois Davidson - that would be a great video to do. Look forward to seeing it in the not too distant future 😃
d'habitude je trouve que vos composition ne sont qu'astucieuses mais là c'est trés réussi .
