Hi there, I am glad you found it exciting. Watching watercolour washes develop is very satisfying providing they are left to settle natuarally. Good luck Steve
I like this video. I started watercolor a few months ago, and have a set of cheap hake brushes. I find them unique and fascinating to use. I am very much in the early stage of using them.
Fantastic. I had the pleasure of meeting Steven at the create and craft fayre in Birmingham and he very kindly demonstrated to me and my daughter how to paint on of his amazing sky scenes. Such a lovely man and I gained some great tips and also purchased one of his hake brushes. Thank you Steven
Hi Tracy, Many thanks for your lovely comments. It is always good to know that my demonstrations provide some inspiration. I remember speaking with you and I could tell you were excited at the prospect of trying some new techniques. You can always let me know how you get on. Best wishes, Steve
GORGEOUS painting....really enjoyed every step and will be practicing with my Hake brushes...wish I had Pay Pal to buy your brush, unfortunately I don't. Looking forward to your next video!❤
Good video. The pronunciation struggle is real. 😀 This is very similar to another artist's "Mini goat hair". Most Hake enthusiasts and Ron Ranson followers are partial to the Pro Arte Hakes.
@@markdonovan1540 Hi, at the moment you can only get this brush from my website. Proarte haven't released it to Jackson's or Ken Bromley for general sales. This may change in the future. Hi Stephen really enjoyed the video and it would be great if you could do more on a regular basis, we have met a few times now at the shows in Birmingham and I always enjoy our chats whilst my wife goes off on a wander and no doubt we will meet again so until the next time we meet take care and stay safe.
@stephencoates8165 March would have been great but I'm recovering from surgery which will take me April from there another surgery which will take me to mid June before I'm allowed to go anywhere but I will see you again at some point.
I think I've discovered where I've been going wrong..I'm new to watercolour and recently purchased a hake brush..watched lots of vids..was really excited and I was off..water on paper, paint on dish..painting a disaster!..what the heck! 😮..after watching your explanation I realised I was putting too much water on the paper and the paint was too wet!..I'll try again but I'm pretty sure it will all be good!..or better..thank you so much..I'm binge watching your videos now 😊
Hello Claire, Many thanks for your comments and I'm so glad that this video has sorted out some of your issues. I am intending to increase my presence on you tube so keep your eyes open. Not many tutors really explain about the consistency of paint. It is a vital part of the process especially when you are wetting the paper first. Don't worry about having too much water on the paper, just make sure that your colours are rich and thick before dropping them into your wash. To answer your other question, you can use any red with ultramarine. Light red is very strong and will produce the deep plum colour you see in the video. If you use alizarin for example, you may need more of it because it isn't as opaque as light red. You will aslo end up with more of a lilac colour. Light red is a deep warm red and alizarin is a cool pink red so the end result will be quite different. I use ultramarine and alizarin quite a lot so give it a try and let me know how you go on. Don't forget you can get a Mini hake and plenty of other products from my website! Best wishes, Steve
@@stephencoates8165 thank you Stephen..I will certainly give this a try and thank you for your in depth explanations. You dont know how much it means to me. I will certainly keep watching your videos and all your future ones. You are a fantastic teacher Many thanks
Hi there, The plum colour is a mix of ultramarine and light red. Striaght from the tube with a little water added to allow mixing. The light red is strong so be careful not to add too much. The resulting mix should be quite thick like oil. If it is too wet it will disperse too quickly on the previouisly wet paper. Keep working with the hake brushes, they are amazing! Best wishes, Steve

what color paint did you use for the plum? Did you mix it, or is it straight out of the tube?

A question...can I use alizarin crimson with the ultramarine to make the purple?..
Dude, enough of that commercial get on with it!!!
