I am not a fan of the SNP but Ian Blackford bless him gave one of the best tributes and speeches for HM Queen that I have heard. Well done that man. A very moving speech indeed.

From 🇮🇪 IRELAND, I wish to extend my sincerest condolences and sympathy to all members of the Royal Family and to the 🇬🇧 British people at this sad time on the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. Despite turbulent past histories, Irish people held Queen Elizabeth with deep affectionate regard and respect. King Charles will be a wonderful Monarch and our best wishes for a long and happy reign are sent from your neighbors and IRISH friends today from across the pond.

His speech today however was utterly brilliant - outstanding even - wonderful that he gave thoughts to Liz Truss having this on her plate just 2 days in….

@@DarthSanguine in other words a commonwealth countries such as Canada. I am an American observer but I tend to favor parliamentary republics such as Ireland is a better system not just compared to monarchy but certainly compared to what we have (a presidential system). That said, In a way I suppose it’s smart because it would allow unionist citizens of Scotland to retain kinship with the rest of Britain if Scotland should become independent and I am of the opinion it will in my lifetime.

The United Kingdom would have to pay more taxes without the monarchy. If you want a visible reason to like the monarchy, there ya go.
Also, she was just a generally good person, and relishing in someone else’s death just because other people liked her seems like a pretty sociopathic thing to do.

She was the queen of Scotland and a bunch of other countries as well, not just England. The SNP are not, and have never been republicans. They want to restore us to the Union of the Crowns - the period from 1603 - 1707 where Scotland and England were separate independent countries, but had the same monarch. The same situation as for example the UK and Canada are in currently.
This is why I'm voting for them only for as long as it takes for us to get our independence, and then switching to a republican party.
