Obama himself gave the Queen a great present. Her Majesty collected things of her father, who died very young and whom she loved very much. Obama found letters of him in the White House archives written to Roosevelt during WW2. He gave them to her. I read somewhere that when he did this and she saw her fathers handwriting she kept silent for quit a bit, and then she said: "We are very grateful for this". Oh my - how touching.
What a touching story.
@@tmackie1694 yes. It must have been for both of them
I had never heard that (or must have forgotten it). Thanks for sharing!
Well as long as he gave a gift it's ok them supporting the trashing and trying to destroy her monarchy
My grandmother was the same age as the Queen and to her dying day her father was always 'daddy'. I know some have a poor relationship with their parents and I grieve for them because that relationship is irreplaceable. I can imagine that was quite special for Her Majesty.
I'm always so impressed with how well spoken Barack Obama is. He speaks with intelligence, authenticity, graciousness, insight, and always with a touch of humor.
He has a degree in constitutional law from Harvard and was President of the United States. Why are you surprised?

My favourite Barack Obama and Elizabeth II moment is when he gave a toast at this big banquet unintentionally initiating the band to play national anthem. He didnât know he had to be silent for the anthem and kept giving his speech in honour of the Queen, only realising his mistake when he finished. It actually complimented the speech really well, and when the band finished the Queen raised her glass in thanks and gave him a big smile. đ
Oh lawd no one cares about Barack it's not about him. Didn't his wife support them spitting on and slandering her monarchy

I love the story about the two Obama daughters riding around the palace grounds in the Queen's gold carriage. I'm sure they reminded ER of herself and her sister at similar ages and she knew how much fun it would be for them.
I agree and the fact the RF felt no need to leak this story to the press further highlights the authenticity, dignity and grace of the monarchy. I'm so pleased that Obama chose to share the story.
Indeed, what a great story.
I love the story about how Blackie Obama got drunk at Buckingham Palace and started acting like a total buffoon before the Queen had to get the German Chancellor to take him to bed.
Their adopted daughters, Obama was marred to a Man, Joan Rivers has it here on you tube when she tells the public Obama and Mike was the first gay in the WH which we found out Obama was not born in the USA, much is coming out. The military took Obama and his wife MIke out, he was shot in the head, mike was also.
Don't be silly. There are dozens of people who could corroborate this story. Giving two girls a ride in a golden carriage would be just the kind of thing she would do and she could do, because she was The Queen!

You can tell by watching the face of both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip that they enjoyed the conversation with President and Mrs. Obama. There was genuine pleasure and mutual respect between both couples--very different than the crass and insulting behavior of #45!

Pat Evans - right! From one extreme to the other...
There was never any doubt that Her Majesty enjoyed the company of the Obamas. We saw her - even at a distance - in the presence of countless heads of state from the entire globe. And it was always possible, despite her adhering to convention and protocol to the letter with everyone, just whom she was happiest being around. She clearly adored the Obama family (I've never heard of other children getting to effectively play in the state coach!) - I think it's because as parents, she could recognise the devotion to their children as she was devoted to hers. As you say, #45 was nothing like that!
President Obama is the President Kennedy of our generation. We looked to him to make things better and he certainly improved relations between the countries. He's still the most popular president you've had since Kennedy - possibly more so! We miss him too!

I read President Obamas books long before he became President so was not surprised to find his public speeches set so many Americans on fire for a different way of life. Civility and family life, the value of multi cultural heredity, as experienced by so many around the world and throughout history, became more understood. Those values my Queen valued. We are, as a world, the product of history. We learn from history, if we are wise.
Queen Elizabeth II was not born to the role she carried so well for 70 years. Her father King George VI was the spare to the heir. King Edwardâs abdication put Queen Elizabeth in the direct line of succession. She was the finest example of a woman and a leader but, she was not born to be Queen.
