- Initially, I saw this fire pit on kickstarter.com and absolutely felt the need for one! The idea of it being virtually smokeless was a very attractive buy to me. This is the largest fire pit that Solo Stove makes to date! It puts out a fantastic amount of heat and is fun to look at. I decided to share my first experience using it and hope that it helps you decide on whether or not its a fit for your backyard or campground. They make smaller, more portable ones for camping and cooking but this is great for a backyard gathering. Cheers and thanks for checking out the video!
The deck protector can be found on Amazon here:

I'm glad I found this vid. I just got this same model but haven't had a chance to use it yet. When I got it I was concerned about how big it is and was worried I'd have to fill it completely full of wood to get it to burn smokeless. I'm glad to see that it works just fine with less wood.
Nice love it. Been looking at one myself!
Neat lil fire pit. Cheers!
Mine is still in the box, just moved to new place. Thanks for the intro. Cool piece.
Time to bust it out! Cheers!
Nice looking fire and the brew shed is looking sweet! Cheers
That is one helluva pit! I have never seen one like that! Very cool!! This has to be the easiest assembly you have ever done. LOL
Convex is outward, concave is inward great video! Love to have one of those
Just bought one of these. Glad to see Jim Gaffigan put it to good use, too. :-p
Lol
That was cool bro
It’s awesome!
very nice
Got the Ranger on sale $199 for RVing and use the SilverFire Survivor rocket stove for cooking. Great combination and no propane !
Every fire bugs dream🤓
that's cool I miss my fire pit
Happy New Year!
Excellent video. I have a backpacking solo that I use on motorcycle trips. Works well.
I'm surprised the holes on the upper burn ring haven't been made larger as the size of the stove gets bigger. That thing is huge.
What is the diameter of the holes in the upper burn ring? Are they still 1/4" or 5/16" ?
Awesome channel btw
No, they are larger, I haven't measured, but more like half an inch.
Stuff it full of wood. I pack my bonfire as full as possible to where you think you’ll choke off the air. That is when the upper holes come into play and really make the flame come out.
I’ll give that a try!
@@TheBrewQ You may want to trade that in for a smaller version more appropriate to your climate.... good tip about the ashes being corrosion promoting !
Is the deck new? I seem to recall you wanting to add or replace the deck. Firepit will be a nice touch either way.
yeah, the deck is new. Needed a good place for friends to hang out and drink down some brews lol
Great video ! Do you know if I can use this on a vinyl deck ? Also which fire proof mat did you use ??
I don’t see why not. The bottom doesn’t get as hot as I thought it would and it sits one a ring to keep the heat off the ground. Just put a reflective mat under it and you should be ok.
How did the heat pad underneath perform? How did the Deck hold up underneath?
It held up well. No damage at all. I’m pleased with it
Did it radiate heat well. Wondering if it did I would consider buying one for my scout troop.
T.W. Fields yes, it radiates real well. Nice warmth comes from it especially once coals caught built up.
I disagree I have a solo bonfire stove and you have to be right on top of it to get any heat
You have to really load it up but it will put out an insane flame. I will be doing a follow up video soon!
Now that you’ve had the Yukon for a while now would you still recommend it?
Absolutely. Mine has held up great so far. I'll do a follow-up video this winter to show how it has faired over the last 2 years.
Crocs!
Camo crocs!
I use mine on a wood deck without a mat. The bottom doesn’t get hot at all. The biggest worry I have is embers shooting out which is why I might move mine to a new location… the ember screen solo sells is crazy priced
Yeah, I stopped using the deck protector. I agree the spark arrester is expensive.
I purchased a portable grill from Burning Embers 🔥 that fit perfectly on my yukon so stove,it acts like a deflector ,a grill ,and it has enough height for the spark arrestor ,saved me over $500 ,$20 grill did all three accessories totally happy.
@@leroymontano9080 Do you have a link? I’m not finding it
Thinking about ordering one-do you have to sit right on top of it or can you sit a little bit away from it? Love the idea of no smoke but I want to make sure it throws off good heat if I'm sitting in a chair 6-8 feet away.
You sit away from it. It casts out a decent radius of hear
Heat
Thanks. I didn’t want to spend $$$ if I had to sit two feet from it lol. Merry Christmas
Hey I just got one for my husband for Father’s Day. Where did you get that fire mat? I’m gonna need one. This was super helpful.
Awesome! He’s going to love it! I posted the link to the mat in the description. Works great! Cheers!
@@TheBrewQ thanks friend
@@TheBrewQ Oh one more question. They don't sell a grill grid option do they? I was chatting with Solostove and they said I could use a weber one that should work well. I would love to have the option of cooking on it. Any suggestions? :-)
I haven’t used it for cooking but it’s certainly an option. I’d look for something about the same diameter of the fire pit. Sorry not much help on this part of the subject.
What about heat? Do you only get heat from the top or can you feel the heat from the sides too? Like a real camp fire.
David Vithayarath well, once it’s really going, you feel the heat from all around it. My wife had to back away from it a bit once I loaded this sucker up. More details to come in the next video. I hope to address many questions about this fire pit soon!
Mostly from the top. The sides block a lot of heat, that being used to heat the air for the clean secondary combustion. The smaller ones burn better, get to secondary combustion faster and are easier to keep fed IMO... You really need to get them full of wood to get a good fire.
What if it rains ?? What do you cover it with ?
They make a cover specifically for it and it works well. The only thing I put away is the fireproof mat as it isn’t supposed to get wet.
Hmmm...
May be this version is s a bit too large in diameter?
So only the fire in the outer border has profit from secondary airstream.
In the middle there will be more soot and smoke I assume...
It seems to do the job, though. Always ways to make something better. Cheers!
Where did you get the fire matt

i have the solo stove bonfire havent used it because of the government saying there is a "a smoke advisory" in my area since i got it couple years ago
What the hell does that mean? “Smoke advisory”? Lol
it was the government saying that there was too much smoke due to other people burning stuff so no one else could burn no matter how it was contained
@@Sentone1000 That sucks. We have burn advisories, and burn days for leaves and such, but recreational fires are always allowed. I use my Yukon to burn all manner of sticks and whatnot all the time. The low smoke means nobody calls the fuzz on me, and since it's a recreational fire, they can't do anything anyway.
@@wiredforstereo yes it does i wish we had recreational fires but we couldnt have fires period due the smoke and fires
304 stainless hasn't rusted it just changes color. Water won't hurt the 304 stainless as it has a high nickel content.
The water will hurt the welds if you use water to put the fire out
@@NotJustBBQLLC I will agree on that if low quality welds were used in a cold environment were water freezes. But if high quality welds were used then the welds should not rust. That being said I have seen 1/2” steel plates bend from water freezing and expanding. Water is crazy strong when turning into ice.
@@frankdelucey2137 ~ I figured it was going to cause the welds to break not necessarily rust… I just bought one of these stoves and did the magnet test the only place the magnet stuck a little bit was the inside bottom plate with all the holes.
@@NotJustBBQLLC 304 is supposed to be
non-magnetic. Hopefully they didn’t use a high grade 400 series stainless steel on the bottom plate. I work with metals and all or our 304 is non-magnetic but it is certified 304.
N52 magnets won’t stick to 304.
He gets his wood from Lowe's I get wood off the ground in the woods or at Hooters

This fire pit is on sale for just over 400 right now. Order straight from solo stove if you want to save. Amazon may be priced higher.
Genuine stainless steel will not rust......if a magnet stays affixed to the unit, its “not” stainless......
There are many types of stainless steels that are magnetic some 400 series of Stainless Steel used by some gun manufacturers will attract a magnet just like steel does. You are correct however most SS are not magnetic.
304 , 306 isn’t magnetic. Stainless kitchen knives are magnetic because they have more carbon and less nickel.
I'm a bit of a fire bug. Love fire when camping and I have a chimnea on my deck at home. I also just snagged a Biolite Fire pit yesterday from REI for $100 from the garage table now that Covid buyers are returning stuff since the discovered they dont like camping. The reason I prefer a Biolite over Solo pit is because you dont see the wood burning. There is nothing like being entranced by the burning wood. Watching pieces burn and contort and fall. That's mesmerizing. These Solo pits only expose the flame licking out the top. Boring for me.
I love my solo yukon. It works for me but if you’ve found something that works for you and you are happy, that’s the most important part! Cheers!
