    Nice review, Weber fire starter cubes are way too expensive, I just pour a little 91% rubbing alcohol on the pellets and light. You will get to full burn in 1-3 minutes vs taking forever with fire starters. Plus alcohol will give you the absolute cleanest startup.

    I've had the smaller Mesa for about a year and it's pretty good, but just a tad bit too small. Plus, the smaller Mesa is REALLY affected by the smallest breeze (a moth could fly by the smaller one and almost blow it out). The XL seems to be more what I'm looking for when I want a fire, but don't feel like using my Bonfire. On a side note, the pellet adapter for the Bonfire is absolutley amazing! Just get cheap heating pellets from Menard's and you're good to go for about two hours with a consistently nice flame.

    For a longer burn time just add a small amount of pellets when the flame starts to die down. Sprinkle them across the top with a long handle steel scoop. Don't add too much at a time or it will snuff out the fire and produce a bunch of smoke until the pellets catch back on fire.

    Great review! I have the Yukon 2.0 and the smaller Mesa. I love them both, used in Chicago. You have inspired me to get the Mesa XL for my Florida place. I read the comments and someone posted about using under a roof. You replied having a 12’ ceiling. Not sure how high mine is. I know taller than 9’. Either way. There is a heat detector that would hopefully prevent disperse the heat from going straight up.

    Quick question regarding embers do you have any concerns with embers maybe starting a fire on the furniture cushions or other items neae the flame?

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  Před 11 měsíci

      Using pellets no because you can not overload it. And the pellets burn in a controlled even way. Using wood yes if you overloaded it, wood was damp or sap could cause pops but if it’s loaded to a reasonable amount and wood chucks added sensibly then no. The flame is ember free.

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Yes! I’m about to post a video on this. I bought a stainless steel canister and a long stainless steel teaspoon. The type you would use to stir a deep glass of iced tea tea. Anyway if you shovel the pellets in every couple minutes while it’s a ripping flame it’ll continue to burn significantly longer. Kind of like shoveling coal into a train steam engine, I guess. I’ll post a video on it.

    Do you get different burn times when using pellets or wood in the XL?
    Or always is a max of 1 hour?
    Thanks

    • @bobbygfl
      @bobbygfl  Před 8 měsíci +2

      When using wood, I’m continuously adding it, so it is much easier to maintain a smokeless fire with chunks of wood. Meaning when it starts to die down a bit, you just add another chunk of wood. Adding pellets it’s kind of a pain because it wants to smother what’s burning unless you add them with a metal spoon while it’s ripping hot in order to stay smokeless I should do a video on this it’s difficult to explain if you want to have an even burn that you don’t need to mess for about an hour use pellets if you want to interact with it continuously use chunks of wood. Hope that helps.

    • @theflyerpr40d
      @theflyerpr40d Před 8 měsíci

    • @JaceShoemakerGalloway
      @JaceShoemakerGalloway Před rokem +1

      Hi. Just got my Mesa XL yesterday.
      After doing tons of research, you can use pellets, wood chunks and/or twigs from your yard (as long as they are dry and not green). In fact, you can use two different mediums at a time (chunks & pellets, pellets & twigs, etc.)
      You are supposed to put the pellets almost all the way to the top - underneath the holes. I did not since it was the first time. If you do that, you will go thru quite a bit of pellets that way. Mine ended up burning for about an hour. I also used a few of my twigs since my 55 foot tree was just cut down after a bad storm!
      And most people recommended using fire starters, too.
      Enjoy!

    With the exception of your mispronounciation of the product you an informative and entertaining video. As you may know, a mesa is an elevated piece of land with a flat top and steep, cliff-like sides commonly found in the American Southwest. But "mesa" is also the Spanish word for a table and it's pronounced "may-sah" and not "mess-ah" as you were saying.repeatedly. Anyway, this is only meant simply to be friendly FYI. Again, I enjoyed your video and I will keep an eye out for future installments. All the best and happy new year.
