    1. If a listing is too good to be true for a dog, it is.
    2. If they post it in your area and then claim that they no longer live there or whatever it is a scam.

      @Cerus98 Před 3 lety +54

      Why? It’s not rescue when you’re paying $$$ in fees.
      Nothing wrong with buying from reputable and ethical breeders. Shelter dogs are shipped in from all over the world and/or come from backyard breeders.
      No responsible breeder would EVER allow their dog to go to a shelter. They have contracts forbidding it. They will always take the dog back at any time in its life.
      If you buy a dog from a shelter you are supporting importation of dogs and unethical backyard breeders.
      And yes. Shelters and rescues do import dogs from overseas all the time to meet the demand of virtue signaling Americans who want to tell everyone how they “rescued” a dog by paying $250 in adoption fees.

    I literally JUST got puppy scammed over the last couple of days. I'm absolutely heartbroken. I spent $400 on toys and supplies for the puppy, scheduled a wellness checkup at the vet, told my friends and family, and then...no puppy. I'm absolutely heartbroken. I lost $1,495 to the scammers plus what I spent on the items, and my confidence in pet ownership as well as confidence in my own intelligence. But they were incredibly tricky and I wasn't aware of the warning signs. As soon as I realized I was being scammed, ALL the red flags became so clear, it was crazy. I could give a list a mile long of all the things to watch out for.

    I'd like to offer my tremendous appreciation for this video - you prevented my wife from being scammed!
    We're in the process of looking for another dog to be a friend to our current family pup - she's super friendly but grew up with dog friends and seems lonely. My wife found someone offering some adorable puppies near us, and started the conversation. After watching this video weeks ago, I thought it was important for her to see it.
    It was - she recognized the scam as soon as the other person asked for a rehoming fee, and a deposit. She hit them with lots of questions, and the story fell apart.
    Thank you for doing what you do - it's hard work keeping yourself safe from this sort of thing, and videos like this are a great way to prepare for the new vectors scammers are taking.
