On "My Car Story" we're in the Suburbs in Phoenix AZ.
We're riding in a 1954 Jaguar D-Type that is the REAL DEAL. This car is not a replica.
This car is a “Factory Team Car” in 1954 and has lots of race history.
We’re riding with the Care Taker of the car Terry Larson. Terry is a Historian, a Restorer of D-Type’s, and the Author of the Book C-Type, D-Type, and Lightweight E-Type Registry.
Being able to video and share a car like this is a real treat.
ENJOY!
Fantastic. I only live about and hour and half from where this was made and I remember seeing it at a very wet Goodwood in 99. Fab video

Hi Tommy Chuckles, Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Me too, such a treat, and my pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Lou, the sound of that handmade DOHC Jaguar six and the whine of the straight cut gears in the racing gearbox is music to the ears. There's a story about Norman Dewis driving one of these down to Le Mans from the Coventry factory to enter the car in the 24 Hours race at the last minute that is spellbinding. This car is pure world class racing history. And check out that aluminum Jag front end in the weeds providing backdrop. My hat is off to you and Mr Larson and thanks to you both.
Hi CustomKey, Happy to read you enjoy the significance of this car :-) Good news! I think you'll enjoy this one too, Lou czcams.com/video/Vcf-vQDuo3U/video.html

One of the best and coolest race cars EVER!!! I have several 1:64 scale die-cast versions of it. Great video! 192 mph!!! Unbelievably fast back then! Hell, that's pretty fast still!

Hi Joshua Herpolsheimer, Happy to share this car / ride with you :-) Glad to read you enjoy the sounds, Lou
I almost wanna break out singing, "Go speed racer, go speed racer.., go!" Who knew Moss was the real Speed Racer? Not me - not till now. I just knew the cartoons had the whole backstory wrong. And now Mr. Larson carries this legacy forward as, the new Speed Racer. Forgive me - but I still pronounce it., Jag-whar. But its always said with respect. If the purists don't like it, they can just not ask me to pronounce Jaguar and then we all can be happy :-)
Let me just say - WOW! I love this car!
Hi ImTheDaveman, High praise for this "Speed Racer" car :-) My pleasure sharing this one with you, Lou

Hi Hensley’s Hobbies
, Happy to receive an "Oh wow!" :-) Glad you enjoy this one my friend, Lou
They had kiddie rides in Coney Island with cars that looked a lot like this one. They were on a slotted track that had what looked like railroad ties. I drove real carefully, turning when the track turned, keeping it real straight on straightaways. Till one day, the thought crossed my mind: maybe this car is in the groove of the track like my HO slot cars, and that it wouldn't make a difference which way I steered it. I was about 6. The track went left, I boldly and daringly spun the wheel right, and lo-and-behold it stayed on the track. Never rode them again after that.
Hi Rudolph Guarnacci
, When duped as a kid, that leaves a bad feeling for a long time :-( Lou
@@loucostabile
It really did.
Geez, Lou what a showoff. I'd give a weeks pay to go for a ride in that LOL I remember watching Sir Stirling Moss race back in the day, one of the benefits of being old :-) Thanks for sharing the video of this piece of motor sport history.
Hi Rich, If this is being a "Showoff" I hope I can showoff A LOT MORE OFTEN :-) Cool you seen Sir Stirling Moss drive. My pleasure sharing this one with you, and you're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile I never saw Sir Stirling in person but back in the old black and white TV days of the 60s they did occasionally show highlights of races from Europe. I think the name of the show was the Wide World of Sports but I could be wrong. I do remember that Jaguar was the leading marque in European racing and as you know Sir Stirling Moss drove for them. That TV show also broadcasted NASCAR and me and my buddies watched it and tried to "soup up" our cars to run as fast as possible. We owned 50s era Fords and Chevys. If a big Chrysler, Lincoln, or Cadillac engine came into the local junkyard we'd be on it. This was the early/mid 60s and we were inner-city kids that couldn't afford a new Chevy 409, Chrysler Max Wedge, or a Ford 427. We did by what today's standards would be laughable to make our old cars run as fast as possible but it was fun. What a time.
💘 that Jaguar Growl!!
Just the way we like it :-)
Nice video Lou that's quite a car .
Hi steve s, You're right, this one is "quite a car". Happy to read you enjoy this video :-) Lou
Nice car Lou., love Jaguar. Have a XJ 98 model year small V8.
But between 1400-1500, is that a gray Jaguar in the background? Look like that. Funny,
Hi Ollie Nilson, Happy to read you have a fun Jaguar :-) I think that is this car in the background. Enjoy! Lou czcams.com/video/LQT7aQsJt7k/video.html
Absolutely Beautiful
Happy to read you enjoy this car :-) Me too.
14:00 It's a wonder his wife let him buy that car! 😄😄😄
That's a good wife :-)
Now up for sale I see.
Hi Tommy, Please share a fresh comment with the link, as I reply to all first time comments. Thank you for the tip, Lou
Neat historic car. I can see similar lines in the Shelby Cobra, so I would guess that design influenced other sports car designs.
Hi Steel Assault, Happy to read you enjoy the design of this car :-) Good news! Here is another link to a video of a Jaguar I think you'll enjoy, Lou czcams.com/video/Vcf-vQDuo3U/video.html
classic racing in a classic car
Well said :-)
I recognize the driving footage from a video released on this channel in 2017.
Correct - new review.
Interesting they actually started Le Mans as a foot race!!
Hope you're not slow across the start line :-0
Safe to say slightly more valuable that a 260 Cobra????
I tad bit more :-)
Sounds like this fellow is kind of a Jaguar Historian and Guru...
Correct.
Amazing mechanical quality, all analog, dorsal fin is cool! Love to have that baby in my garage Lou! What is the dollar value?
Hi Ron, Happy to read you enjoy the fin. Not exactly sure what a car like this with this historical significance would sell for, Lou
I guess I’m thinking this thing should be in museum......... wow he has drove it 20k miles....... I would be so scared of some idiot crashing into me😢
Hi Top Shelf Innovations, A driven museum piece, and happy I was able to share the ride with you, Lou
THIS CAR LOOKING FROM THE SIDE
LOOKS LIKE PEANUT SHELL😂😂😂😂
Hmmm, maybe that's where the Designer got the idea. I can see him thinking....."What if a peanut was a race car, how fast could it be?" Turns out, pretty FAST :-) Lou
Is that a C type bonnet sitting in the weeds? 14:47
Hi Dan, You have great eyes! Enjoy! Lou czcams.com/video/Vcf-vQDuo3U/video.html
Sounds like you were going 200 mph. Who needs a hemicuda, lol
Hi Chris, You're right, this car has wonderful sounds and really adds to the ride :-) Lou P.S. I'll take that old Hemi Cuda if no ones interested :-)
