- Vecna from Stranger Things or Freddy Krueger? When it comes to being the Dream Master, only one entity can wear the crown. Back in 1984, Wes Craven created the ultimate dream boogeyman with Freddy Krueger in A Nightmare On Elm Street. Freddy was revealed to be the bastard son of a hundred maniacs, who became a psychopathic child killer. When a technicality got him off scot-free, the parents of Elm Street came together to enact their own justice by burning him alive. Little did they know that he would return in their children's dreams to get his revenge.
Vecna is rather new to the game, but was revealed on the latest season of Stranger Things to be the puppet master behind all of Hawkins's misery over the course of the show. He started out as a young child with incredible psychic abilities. When he decided to straight up murder his whole family with this newfound power, he was sent to the secret government organization to find out where exactly his abilities came from. After a run-in with the powerful Eleven, while trying to escape, he was transported to a mysterious new world. There, he realized his true power and began looking for how to come back to the real world in order to take it over.
Both of these characters use dreams, trances, and visual trickery to attack their prey. With their abilities, they are able to overpower their target and instill in them a great deal of fear. The rules also apply to both that if you die in your dreams, then you die for real. But only one of them can reign supreme. Who will be the ultimate nightmare boogeyman? Vecna is a wet blanket compared to Freddy. Let's be honest lol.
There's no way Vecna wins against Freddy Krueger. He's simply outclassed in every way. The upside down would be a playground for Freddy.
A major difference between the two is Freddy LOVES chasing his victims in the first movie. When Tina runs, he cackles and runs too. He knows he can teleport but loves giving his victim a false sense of hope in running away. Vecna merely walked over to his victims or chose to hover.

This is a joke right ? Vecna doesn't hold a candle to Freddy in a single category on this list. Also kind of living in the moment aren't we ? Vecna's been around what about 2 hours compared to Kruegers over 30 year's and numerous films.

Freddy wins as long as vecna does not pull him into the real world
While both Freddy and Vecna are terrifying villians, Veca is especially chilling in that he preys on your insecurities and past traumas, making you vulnerable.
Freddy does that too, more so in later movies (especially #6) but due to the campy jokes, people tend to forget the seriousness of the victim's traumas.
Pennywise does that too...
It's a tie for me. I grew up with Freddy like many of us, but I appreciate the Duffer Brothers thought out concept of incorporating bad hallucinations into their own demise, and watching Robert England as the first victim was absolutely brilliant!

I just finished watching Stranger Things! Holy crap! I think we found the people to make the Nightmare On Elm Street remake! So many Freddy vibes! So scary! If there is a God, please make this happen!

I think Vecna's design shows that if they ever want to reboot freddy and bring him back, they need to redesign him without a nose. It's scarier and makes sense, you wouldnt burn alive, and keep your nose.

vecna is not ruling the Upside Down. Because there is something that you always don't see. Who stroke him with Lightning Bolts? The only known eldritch being that can do that is a Mind Flayer. So Mind Flayer is behind all of this, possesing young henry creel's mind, showing himself in his visions, and Henry started know the truth that humans shound not exist. then he was leaded by mind flayer to meet him and wake him up from deep sleep, so Both of them, Mind Flayer with his assistant, Vecna can restore earth from Human Damage
The fact that this comment section is filled to the brim with "Stranger Things sucks" or "Freddy is the original so he's better" comments, despite ST being the world's most popular TV show at this point in time (or, at the very least, top 10) shows exactly how most people have next to no critical thinking and solely form an opinion with the help of the good ol' nostalgia goggles. The fact that one is older than the other doesn't mean it's better (which isn't even an objective thing by the way). I mean I like both Freddy and Vecna and I don't see why that would be bad. Vecna's new, that's all. Everything in this world is new at some point. I'm sure ST will stand the test of time and Vecna will himself become one great horror icon just like Freddy is now. They deserve to share the stage together, among others. This hatred and aversion towards the newer stuff is the expression of stubbornness, fixations, low intelligence, narrow-mindedness, hypocrisy and immaturity. Grow up folks.

I'd like to point out that we've had nearly forty years of Freddy Kruger, but only less than a year of Vecna. Do we really know enough about Vecna to truly make these comparisons yet?

Dude stop being a fanboy. Everyone and everything starts from somewhere. ST is extremely popular and genuinely a good show. And Vecna is a very compelling villain. He's just new, that's it. Freddy was himself new at one point as well. Now he's an icon, but he has to pass the torch at one point, you know. 40 years from now, they'll likely both be icons.
No one could ever beat Freddy Krueger. Except maybe Art the Clown. There's a Face Off I'd like to see.

I grew up with Freddy, and I've watched the original films (and Freddy vs Jason) numerous times, but I firmly believe that Vecna is a more compelling villain. The first Nightmare was a great horror film, but Freddy is largely remembered as a camp horror icon whereas Vecna manages to embody tragedy as well as evil in its purest form. Stranger Things has always been entertaining, but season 4 Chapter Seven is easily the highlight of the entire series for me.
Stranger things sucks
