It was a whole different thing and vibe. I was born in 1993, rented movies from blockbuster, never rented original 80s freddy but for some reason was always drawn to new nightmare. It wasnt until i was 16-18 when i watched the nightmare on elm streets from

Its definitely in no universe a 10/10....The makeup looks awful and cheap, alot of that thanks to Englund from the sound of it wanting "easier" to apply makeup that started around 4. Once they get to the hospital the movie really starts to unravel, that freeway scene is just god awful and pretty lame. Pretty lame too that the "lair" of the demon looks like a broom closet and LMFAO he's afraid of and killed by fire LMFAO. Cause ya know, demons are never around fire.

@spikeohara4lifeyeah sadly the closest we have to a Freddy video game is Freddy in Dead by Daylight but it’s the remake Freddy as ig thats the only rights they could get as the rights New Line has is going for a lot of money as they want the rights to go to the right people and not have a repeat of the remake
I think Blumhouse or A24 could make a good Nightmare movie as they have been on the ball with horror movies recently people just have to realize that Robert can’t play Freddy forever and eventually have to pass the torch. Of course no one can do Freddy like Robert did but people have their own ideas on how to play the character. I think the remake would be good if it was a standalone movie and not a remake of a classic horror franchise

  • @The_Texorcist

Talk about missed opportunities with Johnny Depp saying had Wes asked he would have been part of the funeral scene but sadly Wes thought Depp was too big of a star and would have passed.
With Elm Street being his first movie and how big of a part he had in it he would have been a great addition to the scene ESPECIALLY if he would have been one of the people in the movie who had been having nightmares of this movie’s “Freddy”. Heck considering all that I wouldn’t have been surprised if Depp would have been willing to do that at a hugely discounted price because of it.
But as to the movie as it is I love it, the only nitpick’y thing I would change is the final shot of “Freddy” transforming before he is vanquished, the demon effect doesn’t really work especially with the bug-out eyes.

My biggest complain with this movie is that Wes claims in the movie that Nancy has to be the one to defeat Freddy because she was the first to do it. So? She was killed by him. If anything it had to be Alice, Katerine or even Jacob since all of them actually defeated him and got to live.
I get that the whole idea of this movie is to recreate the first. That´s fine. But then Wes had to come up with a better reason for Heather to be the one to fight Freddy one last time.
    As for my ranking:
    1. Dream Child
    2. Dream Master
    3. Dream Warriors
    4. Freddy´s Revenge
    5. New Nightmare
    6. Nightmare on Elm. St.
    7. Freddy´s Dead
...and I LOVE Freddy vs Jason but I don´t include it as part of the franchise.

In this film, Freddy is depicted much closer to what Wes Craven had originally intended for the character, much more menacing, much less comical, with an updated attire and appearance. However in 2015, before his death, he would admit he regretted changing his appearance and said: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Which was why he kept Ghostface's mask the same in every Scream movie.
The events in this film revolve around Heather Langenkamp having a stalker. In real life, she did have a stalker, and Wes Craven got her permission to weave it into the story.
The television show appearance was inspired by a real encounter. According to Wes Craven: "Robert Englund and I did an appearance together on public television in the San Francisco area. It was about whether this kind of movie was bad for children or not. There were parents in the audience and then kids. All the kids leaped to their feet and started chanting, 'Freddy! Freddy! Freddy!' I remember looking at the show host and the parents, and they all looked horrified."
In reality, Heather Langenkamp's real husband David LeRoy Anderson is a special effects man, as he is in the film.
The film has no opening titles to blur the illusion of whether it's a film, a documentary or something else altogether.
In the ending credits, Freddy Krueger is credited as himself, even though Robert Englund reprises the role.
The basic premise of the film, Freddy invading the real world and haunting the actors and crew responsible for the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films, was originally intended to be used for A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), inspired by the movie Return to Horror High (1987), but the idea was rejected by the studio at the time.
Before making this movie, Wes Craven watched all of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films. By the time he was finished, he claimed that he could not follow the storyline at all. He further regards the sequels to be weak compared to his original masterpiece.
Robert Englund has said this is his favorite movie of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise along with Freddy's makeup being his favorite look.
Wes Craven's daughter Jessica Craven appears as a nurse.
David LeRoy Anderson, who is Heather Langenkamp's real-life husband, declined to play himself.
Miko Hughes has kept the sewn up Rex dinosaur since filming. Wes Craven had an original copy without the scars.
The "bio-engineered" hand and glove that Freddy uses in this film (as opposed to the glove used in the prior films) is actually derived from the artwork of the theatrical poster and video box covers of A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).
Heather Langenkamp and her real-life special effects artist husband David LeRoy Anderson had a son named Daniel (born 1991), serving as the basis for Heather's family in the film. Tragically, Daniel died in 2018 at the age of 26 as a result of a brain tumor, the same condition that had already taken director Wes Craven's life in 2015.
At three appearances, Heather Langenkamp has played the protagonist in the series more times than anyone else. However, none of her appearances have been consecutive.
At one hour and 52 minutes, this is the longest film in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise.
This is the first and, as of 2022, only movie in the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" franchise that doesn't have any opening credits.
At around 35 minutes) When Heather Langenkamp vomited in the morgue, she was spitting up a combination of clam chowder and bean soup.
The credits call Robert Englund's wife Patrice. In real life, his wife is Nancy Booth.
The scene where Freddy tries to swallow Dylan whole, is similar to the scene in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987), where the Freddy Snake tried to swallow Kristen whole.
After Heather makes the decision to play Nancy, the version of the house she enters has a blue door, like it did in the original. All the other sequels showed the house with a red door.
At around one hour and 40 minutes) In the final scene where Dylan stabs Freddy's tongue outside the oven, you can hear the famous Psycho (1960) shower scene music.
Freddy's death in this film is similar to his original death when he was burned alive by a group of vigilante parents.
This the only Nightmare on Elm Street movie where Freddy does not kill any teenagers. Every character killed in this movie is an adult.
    Body Count: Four
In A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), the movie that Glenn watches on television to try to stay awake is The Evil Dead (1981). In this film, the movie that plays on television is A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

I have special bond with original A Nightmare On Elm Street I'm 4 months older then the original. While seeing the 2010 film I was asked by teenagers how many original films. I was like 7 movies. And while some sequel completely forgot who Freddy is and was and while 84 film had dark sense of humor.

David Leroy Anderson is not in this film. That’s an actor playing Heather’s sfx husband.
But I’m gonna say this, one of the fx guys who die in the beginning is none other than Matt Winston, son of legendary creature creator Stan Winston.
I absolutely love this film, and was lucky enough to watch it in cinemas when it came out. I was 14 years old and loved every minute of it. What a film!

Love the darker tone of the series, so I've to give Nightmare on Elm Street, New Nightmare and Freddy vs. Jason the top 3 ranking here.
Hope they do a reboot by going the Halloween route, ignoring everything after Part 1 (or again doing the New Nightmare "everything's a movie" thing) and give us a frightening Freddy that make us shit our pants at night.
I wanna fear falling asleep again...

I saw this movie on TNT when I was about 10. I had never seen a Nightmare movie, but had heard the stories. So, this was my first introduction. I was pretty terrified. I still really enjoy this movie, but it does have a made for tv quality for it. Even simple color grading would enhance the movie. It probably my favorite after the original. Unpopular opinion but the 2011 remake is my third favorite. The whole child predator angle was awful, but I do like the imagery and the modern scares that were able to be done. It had a great atmospheric quality to it that was scary.

I love New Nightmare! To me tho I don't count it with the rest of the series even tho it is part of it. I look at New Nightmare as a spin off kind of. I look at the Elm Street timeline from the original-Freddy's Dead then Freddy vs Jason takes place after Freddy's Dead & Jason Goes to Hell.
Also I'd like to see a Rob Zombie take on Freddy Krueger! I loved Rob's versions of Halloween even tho a lot of people don't. I think it would be good!

My favs are the og and Dream Warriors. My fav Freddy is the demon Freddy from FvJ. It’s definitely time for a re-reboot. My pitch: Start with a movie about the Springwood Slasher. Have it be a cat and mouse type film with Nancy’s dad, the chief of the pd. A trilogy progressing into the culmination of burning Krueger alive. Then another trilogy with him as the dream stalker. The end. Pay me millions New Line.
