  • Having gone nearly 13 years without an Elm Street, I've been feeling the hankering for some new adventures with Freddy. And since that's not happening anytime soon, I figured what better way to help satiate that need than to watch one of the classic sequels. Because this one went from one of my least to one of my favorites and a lot of that has to do with Robert Englund and Lisa Wilcox. So join me as I get all nostalgic and dive into Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.
WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: bit.ly/3jS8FYu
Written, Narrated and Edited by Tyler Nichols
Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols
    Executive Producer by Berge Garabedian
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Ahhh the 80's. A simpler time where the blood ran red, the tits swung freely, and the weed was copiously smoked. A time where rampant killers were simply excuses for excessive sex and over the top murder. Yes, we're looking at an era where the slasher movie ran wild over cinemas everywhere. Today, we're looking at "Real Slashers."

This is my personal fave nightmare. It oooozes 80s. The intro song from Tuesday knight kicks ass...plus we have drama Rama with anything...and the fat boys with ready for freddy (wasn't in the film though)...it was a little disappointing how they killed off the 3 heros so quickly...but I loved Freddy's resurrection sequence...."you shouldn't have buried me..I'm not dead". Directed by Die hard 2's renny harlin...this movie has its share of action sequences, the final battle kicks ass....I am...ETERNAL!

    35 years old!
Still the most fun entry in the franchise particularly when it comes to the special effects
The movie is one of my favorites in the series; a rocking 80s soundtrack, a likable cast of teens, solid pacing, way more creative ways of Freddy slaughtering his victims, plus this is also the birth of Freddy using his infamous one-liners
Renny Harlin makes this so much fun to watch plus Robert Englund enjoyed this as his best performance as Freddy
The film takes advantage of the surrealism of the landscape of the mind, the imagination, the dreamscape, of an individual victim’s nightmare
The death scene involving the cockroach transformation is so grisly and will always stick in my mind; it’s another one of those phobias that turns on the person who has it to full effect
Lisa Wilcox makes for a very interesting lead too being she’s a character that’s gaining a trait every time one of her friends dies which will build her strength to face Freddy so she grows in terms of her arc too going from timid and shy to confident and active
There’s also a theme of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ next to the philosophy of Aristotle of when you dream your soul walks free although Wilcox’s casting is a bit on the nose
This was a rushed production and it was heavily impacted by the writers strike of ‘87 yet Renny Harlin makes for some big action set pieces in a ‘Nightmare’ film that basks in its excess being colorful, inventive, and imaginative
It’s like a giant music video given this was the MTV generation
‘Dream Master’ leaves a great impression despite most franchises being so fatigued by so many fourth entries

Before even starting this video….Tyler, you’re 100% correct! Nightmare 4 RULES. It’s my personal favorite of the entire series and always has been. It was my first “new” Nightmare movie (not sure if it was the first one I saw or not, though that might be Nightmare 3). To me, this is “my” Freddy….the character was perfectly crafted as I knew him from his media blitz at the time. In fact, whenever I’d watch the first two movies, especially the original, I always felt as though Craven and Shoulder hadn’t quite gotten Freddy “right”. Obviously I know what came first, but those first movies always felt like the character was still being crafted.
And that cast?!? I love all of those characters and the fact that the actors themselves are such wonderful people in real life? Perfection. I wanted to hang with those teens and still wish they were part of my friend group back in the day!
And that soundtrack?!?! COME ON. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Despite the cringe elements, 4 is one of my favorites because of the character Alice. I loved the whole concept of how someone who is lost in her dreams would be a powerful foe for Frederick. Alice had clear elements of a Schizotypal personality disorder. StPD is not anything in the schizophrenia spectrum, it's a type of personality disorder that includes excessive daydreaming to the point of generally interfering with daily functioning. But in this case, it was Alice's superpower.

I never miss the opportunity to point this out... I'm disappointed so many Nightmare fans keep incorrectly making fun of the revival scene. "Ha ha, Freddy got resurrected by evil dog piss."
Freddy was already awake and coming back (probably because Kristen kept talking about him) ... Kinkaid just saw his dog before falling asleep so the dog was in his dream... And the rest is just Freddy putting on some crazy dream theatrics, as Freddy typically does. Kinkaid didn't just have a psycho junkyard dream all by himself and then accidentally trigger Freddy's return.
Basically Freddy's deal was "well, time to rise from the grave... gotta freak this guy out while I do it... I know, I'll use the dog."
But no, people act like Freddy said "oh man, I'm so dead... wait, is that dog pissing flames? Perfect, just what I needed!"
    Come on, now.

I took it home that night, the VHS box still wrapped in cellophane. I like to believe I was first person to see it on home rental in our town lol. It was considered quite a shocking horror movie and had a 21 age restriction - I kid you not, good old South Africa in the 80s my friends. My fav sequel has always been 3, thanks to Arquette and that horrible 'snake' Freddy. It had an awesome cinema poster for its release in Thailand as well. Dream Master is a definite second place. Alice is one of my top 3 "final girls" of all time! And she got a kicka$$ movie as her introduction, absolutely LOVE this movie!

I was about 9 when I watched this movie the first time . I just so happen to be eating a sausage pizza during the meatball scene. Still to this day I don't eat pizza with sausage on it 😂

I don't know, maybe because I saw this movie when I was 8 or 9 in the actual theaters, Tuesday Knight has a special place in my heart. Probably because I had a crush on her as a kid.
Her, the main female vampire from Fright Night part 2, Sorsha from Willow, and the blonde from Twins. And Probably many others. 🤣

This is CRAZY - in all theses years I never knew that was the same character as Patricia Arquette. I thought it was some "throw-away" character added. Been a couple of decades since I watched 3 and 4.

Would love to see you cover tales from the crypt demon knight, fav freddy film by the way, the first to center around Freddy more than the rest of the cast

What?! No mention of Linnea Quigley, scream queen legend, and her brief role - c'mon JoBlo.

I loved that you used the actual scene from JoBlo horror intro, instead of just the audio, now I know why I always thought of this movie whenever a video started, just kidding of course, NOES 5 was the first Freddy movie I saw, because was going to see Freddy’s Dead in theaters at age 11 or 12, so went to rental place to watch some more but 5 was for SALE not rent so got that one instead of renting some others. I can’t remember what order I watched them in, but I remember my uncle bringing over original when I was 6 or 7 and going outside because I was too scared and my jerk cousin scaring me around same age by trying to me telling me 3 was based on a true story but not first. I figured that was too detailed to be a lie, ironically later I found one original was based on true stories. Ah…memories that are fading with age.

I had always thought and I swear I read somewhere that Arquette wasn't brought back because she had gotten married and/or preggers when they were shooting elm st 4.

If we need Renny to return for a sequel. It should be for his actual classic…The Adventures of Ford Fairlane.
