@@Jay-n262I say JJ & honestly I think JJ is a better overall plyr too! JJ was just a beast yo! He just wrecked games! He was almost unblockable during those 3-4 yrs he had b2b2b where he won two DPOY awards! I think b2b DPOY too if I'm not mistaken..
Watt is so loved in Houston that he can live here for the rest of his life and not have to spend a single dime. I'm not kidding, we love him and everything he did for our city, even my friends who have no clue about the NFL know him and appreciate him. He's straight up royalty in this city tbh and I love that he has mutual love for the team and the city.
Even when he was the enemy on the opposite side of the team, I will always respect JJ Watt. And I will always remember him for his role on the Houston, hurricane relief efforts
People forget his rookie year, when 3 little kids lost their parents and were all hospitalized after an accident. JJ told his people to go take care of their bills while he also visited them and let them know they were not alone. He just said that he heard their story and being new in Houston, he could empathize with being alone. Also swore everyone to secrecy. If a hospital employee hadn't blabbed, no one would have ever known.
Houston Texans fan here - this man was huge impact against any team. Requiring double teams, TE's to block, taking so much attention to one side no matter what side he lined up on. I forever and always will say that he deserved MVP!
Houston Fan here! JJ Watt is the one dude I can think of that signs a $100,000,000 contract and no one thinks that it was an over pay. Saying he is beloved in Houston is a major understatement. On the field and more importantly off the field, he was the absolute best
I moved to Houston a month after hurricane Harvey and lived there til 2020.. I was expecting absolute destruction but they came together and recovered faster and stronger than I ever could have imagined and the biggest contributor to that was JJ Watt and let me tell you that city absolutely loves JJ Watt.. JJ was so loved in Houston he was Houston.. at any given time anywhere in Houston you’ll look and see at least 1 person wearing a 99 jersey.. the city had some of the most spirit for all of their sports teams of any city I’ve ever been too and the people are great and so hospitable..
I am confident that there are a few qbs and offensive coordinators who were very happy with his announcement of retirement. I imaged getting hit by him and all I can think of was a quick and very painful trip to the emergency room. The man was a beast. HOF first ballot for sure.
If his body didn’t start giving out on him, he’d probably be a top 3-4 defensive player ever. 3 defensive poy awards is crazy and that was just the start of his career.
Even though he slowed down a lot and became injured, he still always got double teamed making a pretty damn big impact on the game. I feel bad he got non-stop injuries, but I'm glad I got to witness him. Great player, great human being.
JJ Watt is a dominant defensive lineman in the NFL who has been in the league for a long time. He’s a future hall of famer at that. He was big and strong athletic player who never won a Super Bowl.
He was the most beloved player in Houston besides Andre Johnson who also played for the Texans. I hope the Texans will retire his number someday. He retired at the top of his game as a result of being so good at his position.
To anyone doubting JJ Watt, beyond all the sacks, go look at the all time TFL in a season leaders. JJ has like 4 of top 5 ALL TIME. Dude was setting records for sacks, tfl, and on top of that was batting and intercepting balls. What a game wrecker. 😊
@@dafuzzbear7711 Problem would have been the salary cap, cause there is no way JJ Watt would have taken a pay cut to just play with his siblings. Considering the reason JJ retired was partially due to health concerns, and partially due to his newborn child, unless the Steelers can match Watt's contract demands, there is no way he is coming to Pittsburgh on the cheap (Steelers also only had $11M of free cap space, Watt's contract with the Cardinals was $14M on average).
Man, the image at 1:46 took me back. I met JJ Watt at some private event by an oilfield company in Midland, Texas in 2012. We had a chance to ask him some questions so I asked why he wore 99. He said it was because he wore 9 in high school, and when he wasn't able to wear that number anymore, he decided to double it up and go with 99. It was a much more interesting answer than I expected honestly, I thought it was just because it was the biggest number but apparently there was more to it than that. This may not be the most interesting fact in the world but it's a special one to me.
JJ is who you want kids to pick as a role model. Works hard, gives it his all, and never gave up. Both on and off the field he was a positive impact for many. Stand up guy.
As a Texans fan that watched every game I can confidently say JJ was the best player I have ever seen play… I’m not old enough to have seen LT play but JJ was a special player and was robbed of an MVP award.
I remember watching the first game he came back after wearing that club. When he got his first sack he hopped up and start opening and shutting that hand like a claw at the camera. Everyone in the room and the crowd went wild for that lmaoo
His last few years he was hindered by Injuries but he was well on his way to HOF and I do believe his outstanding work for his community is what set him apart
As a Houstonian, we love JJ. Man deserved a Super Bowl. Wish it would’ve been with Houston but just in general he should’ve gotten a win or even a game
As a Texan fan he was fun to watch I still have his jersey in my closet in mint condition. Just wish we had better coaches back then he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame 🤘🏼🏈💯. Not only he help during hurricane Harvey he paid for someone funeral expenses
The best because he played for my team at his position and what he did for us enough for even my Mom to know about him even though she’s not a sports fan at all like I am.
To be fair, offensive tackle is a lot closer to d-lineman than tight end. He easily could have asked to play the position at his original school and see what the coaches say, considering he is a physical freak of nature, I'm sure they would have considered it
In my mind watts 2014 season will go down as the greatest season a non QB has ever had, it was the most deserving of the MVP award that any defensive player ever achieved. Had a Hall of Fame career and one of the biggest what ifs, had he not been riddled with injuries he might have given Bruce Smith a run for his sack record.
He is the greatest defensive player I have ever seen and to me with all these reporters comparing all these new linemen to Lawrence Taylor or being like LT. JJ Watt is the ONLY defensive linemen that had the legitimacy numbers wise and eye test wise to ACTUALLY be compared to Lawrence Taylor and have actual validity
As a a grown man seeing history from my childhood house to support Houston Texans. I was so upses with JJ’s dominants. I was 8 years old at the time when I hear him was drafted and see his dominants in 2012 all the way to 2019. That’s how good he was. Until the younger manager drop JJ and D. Hopkins. And that’s another down fall for the Texans. Two good players at the time for the Texans were A. Foster (runner back) and a Wide receiver, Andre Johnson, before Hopkins comes in after Watt was chosen for the Texans.
As a perpetually disappointed Texans fan JJ was the only reason for me to watch a Texans game. Soon as he was done I was done with the franchise. I refuse to give time, money or energy to such a poorly run organization that wasted the talent of so many amazing players. If he had a training staff that would've kept him from doing crossfit bro style workouts he never would have gotten that completely preventable back injury. Thats something they left out. He like so many other players was injured by lifting weights.
His injuries were such a shame because in terms of peak performance he is right up there with Reggie white and Aaron Donald as the greatest defensive linemen to ever play
It bugs me how ppl forget how dominant jj was because he had injuries at the end of his career. Recency bias is a btch. One of the most dominant defensive players in the history of the NFL in his prime. Thank god for wade phillips for insisting on that draft pick. Also bugged me how he raised all that money for houston after it was devistated by a hurricane and ppl baselessly accused him of stealing the money even though he made all of where it was going transparent throughout the whole process. They were looking for a reason to hate him then.
I just wish he won a Super Bowl.
It’s sad he wasted his career on the Texans he was just to loyal

One of the most fearsome DE in his era. And an even better man in real life.
Watt deserves the HOF and so much more
He’s a first ballot Hall of Famer, no question about it. I also agree, JJ Watt is a great person as well.
Watt did so much for houston, hes a great guy.
The big brother every man deserves

Bro, I watched this man play his entire career. In his prime, Watt was A PROBLEM. He should have won MVP in 2014.
Definitely should have won MVP. When the race is one defensive player and a qb. They should have picked the defensive player for the fan candy
I think they should’ve too. He deserved it. Plus it would’ve cemented his legacy as the best or easy top 5 defensive players ever
YES. Dude was unreal.
Defenders who wreck games are far more valuable than offensive players who control a game. Watt deserved it over Fraudgers.

Here we go Steelers
Same. Gotta hope this past season was an outlier for TJ and not him following in his brother’s footsteps injury wise
As a Dallas fan, you're welcome. Our dumbass coaches thought a soggy Taco was better than a Watt because of "scheme".

This man transcended from athlete to saint in Houston. You would be hard pressed to find ANY city that loves ANY athlete more than Houston loves JJ

It is scary to think how good he really was. He was a HOFer as is. He would’ve SHATTERED records if he would’ve stayed healthy.
