#warhammer #nonmetal #ageofsigmar - Zábava
I love this dude. He's just like "This is SIMPLE and EASY" and just proceeds to create the best paint jobs I've ever seen.
This is why I follow him so closely. He approaches it from an art teacher perspective rather than a strictly miniature painter perspective. I've really enjoyed painting with sketches and limited palettes. Being able to use single pigment paints really cut down on my clutter of paint bottles and helped the budget as well. There's also more freedom once you cross that line out of hobby paints where you can do more out of the box ideas. Knowing the basic principles more let's you tinker better with more control and precision.
Nice summary and 100% agree :)
It's kind of like watching Bob Ross, you look away for like 10 seconds and it looks like he spent 5 hours on it
Like Angel Giraldez; he's all "Take it easy, relax and enjoy," makes a couple squiggles with his brush or airbrush, and BOOM. Art just happens! Astounding.

@12:45 Agree 100%. Reality is not our goal. Belief is. We want something that makes the model look great and helps immerse us at the table!
"What doesn't kill you still leaves a mark on your armor" absolutely brilliant! 👍🤣👍
I love this guys tutorials. He's the Bob Ross of painting minis. Clean, concise instruction with easy to follow visuals. He's changed my workflow.
When Marco said he was proud of me for predicting the next step on the color wheel I felt that.
Watching you is getting professional painting lessons for free. You are very generous thank you.
Id love to see how to paint Copper/Bronze.
Never done NMM before, but my daddy Lion is on my painting table and deserves the best. Gunna give this a try. Your video gave me the confidence to do it, tyvm!
Light green 💚
Marco - your command of art theory and technique, and your ability to ‘transliterate’ these advanced topics into the practical actions of a hobbyist is second to none - because no one else is doing what you do. Your impact on the hobby cannot be understated, and it has yet to be seen just how far reaching it will be. As not just your viewers, but other creators and influencers implement your innovative approach to techniques and (especially) traditional mediums, I predict that the tabletop standard will see a dramatic increase in both quality and stylistic variation, in no small part due to you my friend!
You are without a doubt one of the best artists and teachers the hobby painting community has to offer! I so wish you would come to Australia and do some courses!!!!
Id pay to go to them.
I've watched your videos for 3 years now and you still absolutely blow my mind in your approach to problems or complex subjects. It's crazy. Thanks a lot for what you do!!
I find NMM relatively easy to paint but really difficult to explain 😅 so my solution is to show you in detail a bunch of practical examples starting from the simplest and most intuitive I can think of 😁 This will be a long long series lol...
Just in time too starting a storm cast army and my favorite painter comes out with this. Keep up the good work
Haha im in the same boat as Joel, recently bought some Stormcast because I wanted something different to paint and bought some Annihilators. Your videos are truly a joy to watch and an amazing way to learn. Thanks Marco!
great video! its almost like a 2 for 1. the first half doubles as a "how to paint leather" tutorial!
How does nmm work on large surfaces? Ex. an Imperial Knight? Monolith? NMM on figures is rather easy, just like you said that once you get the eye for it. But large model nmm, doesnt seem to exist and is therefore hard to study.
hello , sorry for asking you this , its about an old video you made, i realy like your job and i was wondering wich color (oil) you used for the main bones ( Ossiarch Bonereapers ) / last question , im using bomb paint for the base, do you think a white one is better or grey for Ossiarch Bonereapers ? thank you alot for your time :) and your job ! great artist for sure ! :)
Thank you very much. I will be practicing your technique for gold nmm.
I'd love to see you use this method on Hulkbuster Iron Man from Marvel Crisis Protocol!
I'm glad to see a CZcamsr using acrylic gouache on minis! They're a great paint and it seems nobody knows about them yet
What is the difference?
I've seen Gouache in my artists store, but wondered about the applications.
@@AceMcTomb I'll list some of my reasons here: acrylic gouache is better than many miniature paint brands for a lot of purposes and is like half the price by volume. They're generally single pigment so they mix predictably with other colours. They're hyper matte and barely need thinning right from the bottle. They come in a dropper bottle. They're available in every art store in dozens of colours. They have great coverage and are highly opaque. Fine art supplies all speak the same language so you know what you're getting (burnt umber is burnt umber no matter what, because it's literally umber that has been burnt and ground up into powder then mixed with medium to make paint). At the end of the day there is very little, if anything, unique about "miniature painting supplies" vs "fine art supplies". Even seemingly unique paints like contrast paints are just regular paint that act like they've got some flow aid and maybe some gel matte medium added to them.
Anyways.. This is very long for a CZcams comment, lol.
I would encourage anyone to pick up even just one bottle of acrylic gouache next time you run out of a colour and see for yourself.
Happy painting!
@@the_elder_medium Thank you very much for your "long" answer^^
I'll definetly pick up some colors. Marco inspired me to use Oil Colors and create everything I need by mixing them, so I'll definetly Gouache a go then :)
@@AceMcTomb you're welcome! I'm 99.99% into minis for the art and 0.01% into them for the games, so I find using fine art supplies also helps me transfer between minis and canvas or whatever I'm working on. Enjoy!
I've got some oil washes and some oil paints to paint my word bearers. Honestly the oil metals just work so much better. I was getting over the hobby and all the oil paints and such has really made it exciting again. I reckon GW use oil paints and washes to get those perfect looks that you just can't get with acrylics.
Finally! I've always been displeased with all the NMG I've seen or practiced for Space Wolves, but this is GRIMDARK. So creative
A similar technique can be used for ice when painting Space Wolves. My successor chapter has blue ice for the trim that really uses a similar process.
I tend to end up painting Non Metallic Garbage, so that acronym actually fits
You using paints with normal names was so helpful!
I'd love to see a video on high-shine metals like chrome, one on painting NMM on larger miniatures like vehicles, Imperial Knights, terrain, etc., and maybe a more ambitious one on worked metallic finishes like Damascus steel...
(Not that I've even tried basic NMM yet myself, but this video is inspiring me to try it!)
You are often working with airbrush and that makes the process quicker and more precisely. But not everyone has an airbrush-set. Just like me. Pls keep that in Mind 👍 :)
I have one pot left of „Snakebite Leather“ from 1996. The Citadel Colours are very durable and with little Afford And a bit of Water once in a Year, they still lasting after more than 25 years. That’s incredible I think.
Hey hey! Here for the skills!!! ❤️🙏☺️
Hmmm - it looked like during the early stages, the actual light reflecting off the satin base coat was actually mapping out Marco's brush work. That was very interesting.
You're a great teacher, thinking about how to teach things that are easy but hard to explain. As a teacher, I learn a ton from you. Thank you.
My friends tried to get into painting minis by recommending me lots of videos, but it was yours on the limited palette with gauche that got me really interested, since there was a lower initial invest with just 6 colours. I didnt follow through with minis but I now use liquitex's gauche has my medium of choice for art work on canvas. I still learn lots from listening to your explanations of your layering techniques here. I wasnt happy with some of my older work on some armour, so im looking forward to adapt this method in my next work!
Ha Snakebite Leather! Imagine me returning to the hobby after many years - They stopped... WARHAMMER FANTASY??? Amazingly helpful video man thank you, stippling isn't as easy for me as it looks, but feels like I'll get somewhere with it. Thank you!
Really Beautiful work my friend
Love your work
Loving your materials and easy flow of commentaries! Good piece :)
A chrome tutorial would be apreciated, I REALLY love the way you explain technical things , despite pf the accent 😜 Take care 👍
i already know im going to be re watching this one like 10 times. Bravo Marco.
This is a phenomenal exploration and explanation of NMM gold. Even the brief mention on your silver method and seeing the results along with your explanation for gold has made that simpler in my mind. I have just painted my first all NMM model and would love to see your version of NMM red. Keep up the amazing work, truly inspirational
Many thanks. This will help me with my next small step forward
Marco ogni tuo tutorial è un gioiello ed ogni miniatura un’opera d’arte! Se capito a Bologna o dintorni per un corso contattaci così partecipiamo, in modo da poter portare sul nostro canale contenuti sempre più professionali!
You are such an artist. Thx that you share your experience!
That is a pretty amazing paint job.
Hi Marco, thanks for the video. Cool painted, but to be honest Id rather see how TMM with good contrast is done. There are a number of problems with nmm for gaming miniatures. A bit too long for a general mini. NMM need to be worked to make it work (lol) and that makes its the main focus - so or it all about nmm or don't bother with it. And generally, minis have loads of tiny details nowadays.
So would be really great to get TMM done, but not as a dominant thing on a mini, but it be rather "interesting" rather usual "base with silver, add ink over, might be brown/black wash over - done".
Just more explanation, it might be just me, but I find it kind of confusing when miniature painted with vivid colours "fantasy style" and having metal parts done with TMM that looks 'realistic" on themselves.
Bravissimo video!!!! Amazing class, here a new subscriber, the way you paint the hammer, looks unbelievable, Ne ho bisogno di piu
I managed to find Snakebite leather the other day, I feel like its the holy grail but utterly unnessisary!
I like that you are using "normal" artist paint. My personal journey was warhammer in the 90s and then a break till ~5 years ago - when I started painting again. Then stopped - and started watercolor - which has a traditional palette of colors. Coming back to miniatures I feel constrained by the paints I own (typical gaming colors) and have been considering buying something similar to my watercolor palette for a while now. I think you have made my mind up. Thanks marco.
love it
That looks amazing! Thanks for taking the time to show us, and for all your other great tutorials!
Love this new series! Great instruction, Marco! Cheers!
Beautiful!
Another great vid... thanks so much for sharing...
Burnt or singed metal would be great...!!
Definitely the best channel to learn miniature painting. Thanks Marco!
thank you marco.
A rainbow reflection would be nice as a video.
Great job man! Congrats.
I swear Marco can predict what I need to learn before I know that I need to learn it. Just started a project that I’ll need this advice for. Thanks Marco!
Incredible Marco. You are a very skilled artist.
You are amazing Marco. I'm so glad you started this channel. You opened my eyes to so many techniques and I thank you. I never would have started exploring into the realms of oil paints/washes if it wasn't for you so I cannot thank you enough. Keep up the amazing work!!!!
This is an incredible paint job. 🤩
C'est magnifique j'aimerais avoir votre talent , moi je peint assez bien ,plutôt avant que je choppe ce diabète qui ma rendu quasi aveugle du droit , je peint toujours quand même , même si ca m'épuise ca m'inspire vos vidéos
This was a great video. I have a lot of difficulty finding good references that match the minatures that I'm trying to paint. I'd love to see some more guidance on finding quality reference materials and then how you use the information in those references to tie into a miniature that's not wearing the exact same thing.
Great stuff friend 👏 👍
You continue to amaze me Marco! Such a great display on how nmm is approachable!
Gonna be great seeing all sorts of different colors, material types, temperatures, and lighting schemes as this series progresses.
Amazing work as always!
I would love to see some black armor painted in oils!
Ooo, I would really love to see some weathered steel or maybe a polished copper.
Your ability to explain complex concepts is quite incredible, very didactic, congrats :)
I took notes for this one in a big way, because dang it, I am bound and determined (with my absolute lack of art training) to get a better handle on this NMM voodoo. I'm as self taught as it gets and videos like this are a huge help for me. Good work, Marco! *looks at his primitive dabbing and sighs*
When I saw the thumbnail I didn't even realize it was nnm, it looks that realistic!
My problems with are mainly 2. First, wich colors to use, i see ochres and browns work for gold, blues and grays work for steel (mostly) but, many tutorials use greens, reds or violets..sometimes i dont understand.
Also i have problems when boosting reflectivity, high reflecting chrome nmm is impossible to me, even with references, everything i try becomes dull or worn in best case. I see NMM is hard to explain, but also hard to ask for advice on it 😅.
Nice vid Marco, looking forward to the rest of the series. Thanks
Grazie Marco! I really appreciate not just the detail of visuals, but your explanations of what you are doing theory wise are nice and simple too. Light physics can get very complicated, so the theory of making it 'believable' rather than ' realistic' takes a lot of pressure away and opens up greater opportunities artistically. Having multiple similar references to look at while painting will be a big help also - hot tip! Cheers mate from Melbourne, Australia!
This is inspiring!
Thank you! This was something that was missing for me :) , I can't wait for the upcoming ones
Awesome as usual!
"Can you guess what color I'm going to use next?" Green! I bet it's green!
Is this Blue's Clues for painters?
I would love a full soft NMM with zero to none battle damage. I usually approach this style with full opaque layers and glazing the transitions. Some subtle texture would be allowed, but only for the purpose of showing the nature of the material. Cheers Marco
Thank you for your informative and educational videos.
It would be nice to see you approach a variety of weapon shapes in silver. A sword with a single edge, a sword with a double edge, and axe with dual blades, etc. This would allow us to better understand the specifics of shapes and volumes and also see where the similarities of these objects and NMM occur.
Thanks a lot ! It's amazing. I would love to see something about sky earth non metallic metal
Absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing with us!
Maybe not next, but at the end of the series I'd like to see an excursion into comic style NMM!
Questions for you Marco. Perhaps you have another video on this that I haven't found, but I'm struggling with Zenithal highlights to prepare for NMM painting. I'm using Vallejo Black Primer (airbrushed) and Liquitex Professional Acrylic Ink (airbrushed). I've achieved a fantastic sketch (thanks to your other educational videos), but when I go to apply a first layer color (brushed), the ink pulls off. How can I fix this?
shiny silver, also, this is awesome
I'm trying to paint a dull gold nmm with an ambient light from a fire, I'd love to see how you'd be able to do that since the colors are so close in color!
Great vid. Really great! To continue the “simple nmm” series, how about a video teaching us how to paint nmm on a bladed weapons. But doing 3 or 4 types at same time. Maybe a double edged sword, a halberd, a spear and a katana (covering majority of shapes and types we paint). 28 or 35mm scale. Using the brush specially for 50%+ of the process. I find my nmm on weapons goes well on one mini and then terrible in the next as the shape and angle changes. It would be amazing to be taught a “simple” approach that would give me a foundation to always fall back on. Hopefully others would see the value in this too.
I notice you're using the Acrylic Gouache more and more on your channel. I'm glad to see that you like it, it's become one of the main tools I use ever sense your initial video with them a year or so ago.
Cheers Marco!
How do they differ from “regular paint”?
Extremely shiny silver armor. Working up in the high whites and how to keep it shiny working with the lighter color paints that are sometimes hard to keep smooth.
Great video as usual! How do you handle viewing angles? One front, one back?
@MarcoFrisoniNJM Which yellow do you use? I have problems finding a good covering yellow
And thank you for a great video once again!
Matt aluminum with a twist of “unearthly” vibrance 🖖👽✌️
video pazzesco!
Great video, thanks for sharing! Will definetly try this technique. For the next effect: red nmm, please :)
And one question: why do you lately work with acrylic guache?
Thanks, I'm going to try on my gecko's armor :D
It will be nice to see how you paint dark metal, and bright metal like aluminium
Has he won some Golden Demon awards? I have a crazy feeling it would take him a day.
Pls show high reflecting steel armor
One idea this inspired me to do is to do more fantastical colors that metallic paints don't come in. During a red or blue metal for thousand sons armor is a good example. And it's easier to get otherworldly colors reflected onto the armor from an "offscreen" warpfire source.
literally easy af to do with trye metalics just use chrome and spray with blue ink.
Academic exploration of nnm. Perfect! I have a squad of liberators I explore in this way since I don’t play AOS. How long did this take to complete?
NMM with pure oils?
Neat!
What are your thoughts on the new scale artist kickstarter sets I’d be interested to hear since you use the original sets a lot?
Fantastic. 👏👏👏👏Subbed.👍👍😉
😊😁😊 Welcome on board!!! Thanks a million 😉
I would love to see it in oils
hello, I collect Blood Angels, what colors should I use then if I want my mini's to be in red NMM ?
Do you thin the Molotow primer?
Can you do this with watered down acrylic paints or is it better to use gouache?
Here I'm using acrylic gouache so basically just an high quality acrylic paint 😉
I have a true metallic question for you: I've been wondering whether any artist grade oil metallics are as good as Vallejo Metal Color? Metal Color is hands down the best acrylic metallic paint I've found, but I see artist oil metallics and am curious if they're as good or better for TMM?
