Greatest footballer ever. Most gifted ever. When he played football was so much harder and brutal, if he was protected like Messi is today I don't even want to imagine what he would have done. Cristiano can barely dribble one player, Diego used to dribble 4 or 5 constantly in the 80s. His prime was basically the entire 80s but especially when he played for Napoli because Serie A then was probably the toughest league ever.

Napoli were nearly relegated the season before he arrived and he led them to two league championships and a European trophy in an era where they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet. Napoli only won their third ever title last season, the first since he left.

    • @1972dsrai

People completely ignore how much the game has changed since he played with far better pitches and offensive players given a lot more protection than they did when he played. He faced tackles in virtually every game that would be red cards today and he rarely if ever dived. He would just get straight back up and carry on running and only stayed down if genuinely hurt. The fouls players get free kicks for now the ref would have ignored and allowed play to continue back then. It was very much a contact sport then and Maradona tbf gave as good as he got. Eg his last game for Barca against Bilbao is a classic for all the wrong reasons, but shows how tough he was and not afraid to get stuck in.

@@MrPOZNEG He was just being modest. How would he look if he said he was the greatest ever? He always said he just wanted to be remembered as one of the best ever and appreciated the talent of others like Ronaldinho.

People saying Maradona resembles Messi never actually stopped to pay attention.
Messi plays nothing like Maradona nor was he ever able to behave and have the same charisma than him.
The only common points is that they are both short very technical n10 Argentinians.
After that, reality is that they played different positions, had different roles, had completely different attitudes towards the game, and had completely opposite careers.
Maradona is much more of a player that would willingly take on several players in his runs. Much more so than Messi who will make the right pass and only attack players straight on when the play demands it. Also, Messi spent his entire career much more of a finisher than Maradona. Maradona didnt play so high up.
    Differences are abysmal.

Thanks Diego!!! The world, the Argentines and especially the Boca Juniors fans are always going to love you! You were pure inspiration, the example that when you love something you do, you can create perfection. When you played ball you were always in the present moment. No external problem mattered. You were like a child ... happy, cheerful, passionate and wanting to have fun doing better and better. They say that we are creative beings parts of a whole, individualized on earth to experience that creative essence. You are a faithful reflection that we can create our reality, for better or for worse. You lived what no one else: to be venerated in life. Not everyone has the balance to endure that and you were no exception. Nobody is an example of anyone, although we are reflections so that others can define themselves and decide what they want and what they do not want to do. Thanks for being one of the best mirrors in every way! May you rest in peace and joy and until the next life! ❤
Gracias diego!!! No importaba ningun problema externo.

I would also like to talk about the World Cup 66 quarterfinals England - Argentina (German referee) Germany - Uruguay (English referee) The German referee expels Rattin (Argentine captain) after 33 minutes said that he had insulted him, without knowing the Spanish language. England won 1-0 with a goal from Hurst in the 77th minute with arbitration that favored them throughout the game. If the robbery is done by the power of the Football organizations, from the shadows, is it more acceptable for a football player to do it in full view of the world?

The whole crazy legs thing was popularized by Denilson and Ronaldo in the late 90s and was soon imitated by players like Zidane (and it wasa useful skill for players like him who ers not natural dribblers).

First of all, the average number of goals scored in games back in Maradona's day, wasn't as high as it is today. It was a lot harder to score back then. Maradona didn't score many goals by today's standard partly because of him playing a true midfielder #10. Not a forward like Ronaldo and Messi most of his career.

He actually reminds me way more of Ronaldinho than Messi because he so often uses the spectacular choice or trickery to solve Pressure situations. You can feel the same joy on the ball. Messi is way more business than the other 2. I think the usual comparison with Messi is based purely on their height which leads to having similar strengths in the dribbling department.
Nonetheless the true difference between Maradona and the others is his attitude. Watch the hymns between England and Argentina 86 and just look at the determination in his face. Messi never had that. It's the difference between a kid from the street that had to claw himself to the top vs a kid who got carefully crafted by Top Coaches and one of the greatest surrounding casts to ever exist.

With forgiveness from the best players of all time, but Maradona is much more than Ronaldhino, because he surpassed him in speed, the speed of Maradona is not the same as that of Ronaldinho Maradona was explosive at every moment he grabbed the ball and faced and It happened to you from a 4, then it is not comparable with Messi since Messi is not as technically complete as Maradona, Maradona made you magic inside the court he made you all over golkers from all sides, rabonas, Chilenas, roulette, pipe, hats, On the other hand, Messi does not make you a rabona, he does not make you a Chilean, he does not make you roulette, Messi is more a scorer than Maradona but Maradona is more complete technically speaking, and then with the other great players in history Maradona is an extraterrestrial Others come below, I do not think another maradona will be seen again because he had all the technical qualities he had everything, passes, speed, luxuries, goals, courage, born leader, what else could this player ask of him?

What I meant is; Maradona... did alllllllllllllllllllllllll THAT while being yanked, kicked and fouled time after time after time, yet like some sort of phoenix he rose up to the highest of occasions. Maradona's greatest moment came in WC quarter final. Messi's came against Getafa or something.
Yanked, kicked and fouled. Now, you tell me, what player Maradona's style looked like. Did you see the azzuri ocean that was around him, yet he came up with what should be a stunning-assist, yet abused by the lack of talent of his team-mate. Now, who has done anything like that in WC game? Or the assist against Brazil 1990 WC? With a broken foot? & so on & on...

First of all Messi/C.Ronaldo are Hulks compared to this man.
Comparing modern footballet to before the 90's real aggressive football is a sin. The rules have changed the game beyond recognition. It is like comparing the greatness of Mike Tyson to Hulk Hogan and claiming both are great martial artists. Yes Hulk Hogan's are goats. Goats that Fifa milks for money. Now enjoy the WC of footballet in Qatar, for you never know when they dilute it even thinner, and breastfeed you (football fan) with more goat milk. Peace! ✌
