I think so, but when Messi thinks that his effectiveness is Ali, and he is faster than Maradona, and he also creates chances and scores many goals, and he dribbles better than Maradona, but Maradona has Ali’s skill.
But when I look at the difference in time, Alan’s numbers, and the circumstances that helped Messi think that he did not fully acquire Maradona’s strength
I mean, the difference is that Maradona has a higher athletic repertoire than Messi and Ali than any player who has reached a much higher stage of mastery.
There are positions on the ball that only Maradona can do
      But Messi's influence is amazing
I still have no doubt that Maradona is better than Messi

As an Argentinian that loves Messi, everytime that I saw DIEGOD'S videos, I ask to myself:
    WHO THE HELL IS MESSI?
WHO THE HELL IS EVERYONE ELSE?
Answer: NO ONE, COME CLOSE TO DIEGO!!.
First single detail: The pitches, ball weight, not diets, not ref protection againts defender's that make Pepe look like a girl.
Todays players: "Hey ref, a butterfly touch me, that's a penalty"
Maradona: "Break me all you want, I won't cry, won't protest, I will keep playing like a man and will give you hell"
DIEGO IS A GOD LIKE A PLAYER, YOU CAN'T PLAY LIKE DIEGO IF YOU ARE NOT DIEGO AND THIS VIDEO SHOWS JUST A 10% OF WHAT HE COULD DO

You said it in the very beginning: that goal reminds you so much of Messis goal against Getafe.
Maradona scored that goal in a world cup quarter final against a nation argentina lost a war to just four years prior and he did it right after scoring the infamous "header" which he himself called made by the hand of god. After that win he carried his team which was far from being a favorite to the world cup victory.
Messis story goes like this: he scored against Getafe in a semi final, Barcelona won that match 5:2 but didn´t reach the copa del rey final due to a 0:4 loss in the second match. And you really want to tell us these goals are basically the same?

    • @jaysimoes3705
      @jaysimoes3705 Před rokem +6

Exactly. The goal of the Maradona is against one of the best teams at the time at the highest stage possible. But okey: it is not one goal that determines these things. When you tak ea look at Maradona from all sides and not just a WC, I believe you must be a Messi chauvinist to conclude Messi was in any way better than MAradona as a player and as a teammate. It is how Maradona won with mediocre teams against the very best in the world (Italian competiition) and so concistently they became champions. Maradona gave twice the energy, not just waiting for balls but fighting all over the pitch and not just in the WC, but in the competition as well. ANd we need to look at how difficult it was for him. Form age 15 he played at the toplevel in Argentina and had no personal life from that moment on. He lived like it was Covid all his life. Never being free to go out and enjoy. From Age fifteen. Not protected by management. But he did it. On the worst pitches possible btw. Not these topquality pitches Messi and Ronaldo play on./

Diego's goal is perfect, it's just him and the ball because no english player was able to tap it during the run... every move looks premeditated, just as Victor Hugo's commentary during the match, another piece of art.
Messi's goal is also crazy, it's a demonstration of what that youngster was going to become in the near future... but let's not forget Diego did more goals of that kind, not recorded or with very poor quality. Look up "Gol Diego vs Deportivo Pereira" and you'll see ONE example.

I was born in 1979 so I wasn't old enough to see the 86 world cup. I'm not a religious football fan but not long before the 90 world cup my dad who at the time was a maradona fan and he's English as am I, got a video documentary about maradona and I watched it and was in awe. So between the 90 world cup, an Italian football league programme at the time and that video is all i saw maradona in when he was still playing. My generation didnt have you tube etc to watch football on. To this day I'm still not a religious football fan I'll watch world cups etc but I can sit and watch maradona video on here all day he's a complete joy to watch. He's to the football world what Michael jackson was to the music world god like status and those sorts of people only come alone once in a blue moon. So to say a younger generation who didn't see the 86 world cup at the time which I didnt can't appreciate what say maradona did isn't right cos I've never watched another Footballer as much as him maybe with the exception of Roberto Baggio who I also got into in the 90 world cup - if you don't know who he is go check him out - he should've been a more appreciated player he's 1 of the best Italian players ever but his career was injury plagued.
If maradona had the protection the players have today back then he wouldn't have been kicked out of the 82 world cup as he retaliated to the constant fouling on him for which noone got any type of card for. Listen to what Gary linekar says about the pitch that the 86 England v Argentina game was played on it was a disgrace and he was in awe of the 2nd goal he scored in that game not just cos it was good but also how he managed to score it given the state of the pitch. If maradona had that level of protection now and played like he did now he could probably easily wipe the floor with them. He was fouled when he was playing for Barcelona and suffered a serious ankle injury. He's played injured for Argentina in 86 and 90 world cup. The English player who clipped his foot scoring the greatest goal ever actually injured him he had to wear an ice pack on his leg after. And yes he regularly got challenged and got straight back up so if he didn't get up there would've been a genuine reason why. Many say he's a cheat for the hand of god goal which by the way it's the fault of the refs to let it go ahead, but I don't think he's ever cheated in the way of taking the piss rolling about on the floor and faking being fouled cos as you can see he was constantly fouled.
Both of my parents are big messi fans and were a wreak watching the world cup final last yr. I'm glad messi won it to be fair I'm sure maradona was dancing in his grave. But messi went to play straight for a top team ie Barcelona maradonas career started in Argentina then he moved to barca and as I've read someone say he's probably more loved by Argentina due to him building his fanbase from starting there. This man didn't just lead Argentina to victory in 86 he brought napoli up from nothing hence why he's also so loved there.
You cannot deny maradonas passion for the game he was always passionate about it even after he stopped playing. Just a huge shame drugs was his downfall though watch the Maradona documentary that came out a few yrs ago and you'll see that from another point of view.
He's definitely the GOAT to me and it's a shame he died when it was covid because it would've been an even bigger thing than it was. Pele dying wasn't as a big as a thing as maradona's was in covid. Even Pele admired him he said when maradona died he hoped to play football in the sky one day and what a thought that would be now pele is up there with him.
Definitely watch that docu and find a vid of him called life is life probably the greatest warm up ever

The true GOAT. That goal against England was voted the greatest ever world cup goal. Look what he did at Napoli, a team that was almost relegated the year before he arrived and then led them to two league championships and a European trophy. They only won their third ever title and first since he left last season. They had never won anything until he arrived. Messi and Ronaldo have only ever played at top sides that were always competing and full of star players and he did it in a era where they were competing against AC Milan which was the best team on the planet and the Italian league was the best then.

  • @jerryrossi6920

Diego Armando Maradona is hands down the GOAT. Put Messi or any of today's players in the time when Maradona played and they wouldn't do what their able to do today plain and simple. Defenders tried to break your legs. If Maradona played today he'd have much more freedom to do what he wanted with the ball and would have a lot more goals because he would be much more protected vs back when he played. He is the most fouled player in WC history. If they gave out red cards with the tackles they did back them to him as they do today the field would be wide open for him. Maradona was a stronger player physically. You had to be to survive in during that time and with the way players would challenge him. Gary Lineker said it was impossible for what Maradona did to score that goal against England in WC 1986 with the way the turf was at the Azteca stadium. They had just laid down sod days before the game and eveytime you went to turn with the ball the sod would slide/shift over from under your feet. You can even see the ball bouncing like crazy as Maradona takes it down the field and scores the goal. What he did was simple not possible for any other player. Take a look at some of the games that were played on some of the pitches back then. There were times the pitches were literally mud. They don't play on that today. Try kicking a ball on mud. If you want to compare Messi then put him in the same environment and rules that Maradona played and then we'll see what he does. He'd never survive it...not a chance. I seen both players and Maradona's to me is the GOAT.

You are😮 entitled to an opinion however Messi is not on maradonnas level just on his achievements which say it all. You don't just need to see someone live, you can look at their achievements for clues as to their ability. What maradonna did at napoli proves he is the GOAT because it would be like Messi going to Rayo Vallecano and then immediately winning the Spanish league 2 years running and destroying Barca and real madrid along the way. Napoli were newly promoted to italys top league, which was the worlds strongest league in the 80s, with team like milan, juventeus, inter that were amongst the best best rated teams in the world at the time. Maradonna turned up and just destroyed everyone in the league week after week, it was just crazy what he did. What maradonna did in the 86 world cup was beyond ridiculous, he was like an OP playstation character, all these clips here are from 7 games in one tournament, thats how good maradonna was in every game he played, he was actually a one man team in every game regardless of opponent or importance of the match, he was just ridiculous as a player. I would recommend the tribute clip that's on CZcams that shows some of his skills and goals to get more of an idea about maradonna. I would say to anyone, please don't say maradonna is like Messi because firstly maradonna came first and second he was way beyond Messi.

Maradona did so much more to help Argentina win in 86 than Messi did in 2022. Maradona was brilliant match after match. Messi just had so much sycophantic press and coverage. He played pretty well sure but what did he really do? He scored a bunch of penalties. He had a couple of excellent assists and a couple of relatively easy goals. What he did wasn't too memorable. I think there was just a massive will from everyone to get Messi a crowning moment for his incredible career. He had an excellent world cup whereas Maradona had one for all time. And I'm a Pele fan first and foremost. Followed by being a Messi fan. Messi's club career is untouchable. Absolutely extraordinary. But Maradona in WCs over Messi easily.

Similar to Messi? I have never seen Messi doing all that actually. This guy is so much more versatile he passes the ball in every way he likes, he passes people almost regardless if they attack him and another huge difference: he barely falls and when he does he always tries to carry on. That is crucial as to why he seems so spectaculr. Not only is the way he dodges it like a slalom skier, but also because he carries on there is no freekick given. Hence the defending team cannot reorganise themselves. That does happen all the time with Messi and Ronaldo.
When we look at his carreer we see he was extremely succesfull at a young age. When he was only 16 he was topscorer of the Argentina Primera Division. And that was quite the competition, they won the worldcup for clubteams regularly from 1975-1984 (Argeinian, Urugauyan and Brazilian teams). So not easy at all. But if I am correct, he became topscorer every single yer after that one! SO when he was 20 he already was 5 times topscorer of the country!
Just look at other clips where you can see him passing balls perfectly with bicycle kicks etcetcetc. Just on another level and no Messi is not close.

Maradona and Messi are for me the two greatest players to ever grace a football pitch, put them in any order you like, but too me many younger fans don't know just how brilliant Maradona was, his 1986 world performance is the greatest in the history of that tournament. Messi is perhaps the goat because he lasted longer in football, but no one was ever more talented or gifted than Maradona

    • @jaysimoes3705
      @jaysimoes3705 Před 4 měsíci

Even that is not true. Maradona was already 3 times topscoerer of the Argentinian premier league (one of the best in that era) when MEssi started his professional carreer at age 18. So 1977,78.79.80 and 81 he was topscorer. Did you see the defending here. He got that right from the start at age 15 when he started playing in the Primera Division of Argentina. In 1994 he was still essential to Argentina, age 34. In Europe and with the Argentinian squad Maradona never was in the best team. He was in mediocre teams. So stats tell you just so much when it comes to individuals, when there are 10 others the result, the chances you get etc will depend on the others.

The Newbies to soccer and younger generations consider Messi to be the greatest, understandably so. But the OGs have seen their share and know better! Maradona is the greatest. The guy was a wrecking ball competing against a generation of legends and he still topped them! Messi is a world class player, but he’s nowhere near the level of Maradona’s endurance or creativity. Unlike Messi, Maradona was a boss and could carry his whole nation. Messi is a nice guy and more of a Spanish Club player, outside of that he’s been inconsistent and lackluster. My two cents.

But by 2012 it was clear he would not be that good, he misses creativity and an iron will to go on and on to get the victory. He was rolling over the floor, asking for cards, crying like a baby even though they were not being rough on him at all in 99% of the cases. he lacks. he lacks creativity, he lacks tha t araay of possibility to pass balls that Maradona has. And soon Messi to me became a bore, always the same kind of actions. Effective for sure and excecuted really well. But most of these actions were copies of eachother. With Maradona you never knew what would come but it would mostly be exciting.

Who can afford watching a single players career watching him at every stadium. Thats a ridiculous comment. Diego was more of a dynamite type of player that would run his ass off across the entire pitch and Messi is more of a slow jog breaking into defenders. Very different players. Diego was exciting Messi is also exciting in a more slow motion type of way. There is not even a question if Diego is a GOAT. This was one world cup. You coupdnt make a video this long about a single world cup Messi played in. However, his time at Barcelona WAS epic!

Incidentally, to gain context, all complete games are available.
Also, the field was different and those brutal fouls! Most fouled players 1st , 2nd and 3rd places belong by far to Maradona according to FIFA stats. I mean, the guy was fouled once 23 times in a single game. Soccer nowadays is a very different game the fouls intensity and frequency being the single most important difference.

Being honest here, i don't have watched much of Maradona, but i don't think that he is in the same level of Messi. I think Messi have a more complete carrer than Maradona.
And Pelé is Pelé. I don't think we will see someone like Pelé soon, Pelé literally created everything of football and did everything.
On the internet you can see many footage of players trying pretty hard to hurt him and screaming at him, it happened because of envy and racism. First World Cup at 17 years.. Thats crazy...
He was so ahead of his time, nobody could stop him and he was like running and driblling everyone.. Everyone wanted to watch him play, and thats why i think that Pelé is incomparable . He did so much for football and everyone that is playing right now, like Messi, football would be totally different without him.
And by the way, we only have 10% in images of what he did.

Boy i have seen both of them play messi can not survive the maradona era, the video you just watch is real and not fake and that's a prove that maradona is well documented and if you don't know maradona change football forever, what he did for Naples and Argentina can never be repeated again by any other player if you don't know he is the only top player in history to make a decision to move to Naples a club that has never won any league titles in their history and made them league champions and also won them an European trophy and his performance at the 86 world cup is the greatest individual tournament performance ever witness in the history of of football, truth be told the maradona performance can never be repeated because today players have protection which maradona never had today players play their games on a much better pitch because if you look closely you would have seen it clearly that when maradona is making his runs with the ball the ball keep bubbling all over the place and that keep slowing him down and today players don't have such challenge so there's know how you can compare today players to maradona and today we have VAR all because of maradona because he scored the most foul goal in football history and also don't forget that player like Messi have all this protection because of maradona because he is also the that have the record of the most foul player against him on the football pitch meaning he pays all the price for today players may his soul rest in peace no wonder Messi himself said if i play for a million year i will never come close to maradona as a player because to him maradona will always be the greatest

Bangso you can be a Messi fan and all that you want, you have the right to ... but you cannot put Messi up with Diego Maradona and Pele. Those guys played at a different level, with much much more diffcult conditions. Youve seen it, and how they had to do it. Maradona and Pele were much more inventive, creative, strong, more skilled, mentaly tougher and more influential team players than Messi ever was. Maradona and Pele beat world champion teams in world cup matches, Messi never did it in 90 or even 120 minutes. He could only win in penalties. He only beat 1 world champion, and thats France in penalties. Messi didnt even beat the Netherlands (2 time finalist) in two world cup games, only in penalties twice.
Maradona and Pele did beat Germany, Italy, England, Uruguay, Maradona beat Brasil, Pele beat Sweden in the finals behind their home fans, Sweden players played all in serie A .. Chekoslovakia, Hungary, France .. all very tough tough teams. They did not have to play Arabia Saudita, Iran and those 3erd level teams in world cup matches. They never won in penalites, scoring penalties, like Messi did (6 gifted in total in Catar 22).
Messi is a great player but never on the level of Diego Maradona and Pele.
Pele had a career 0.96 average goal scoring per game, the highest ever - 1284 goals. Between 1959 and 1962 he averaged 1.26 gpg, a Guinness record. He was 10 times straight highest scorer in brazilian league ... also a Guiness record.
Diego Maradona was not a scorer, that was not his position or responsability, he made forwards score ... but he was so good that he indeed scored wonderful goals also.

You even forget to mention the strenght of the teams that is a crucial factor here! Today we see Haaland on the verge to break one record after the other. Haaland is strong physical striker that can score wtih his head, his feet, taking the right runs at the time, and has way better awareness og were the ball will plump down in the penalty area. Maradona and Messi don’t have that same thing first of all because they would be the player on the ball providing those loose balls, rebounds etc, that a player like Haaland could benefit from. But back to strength of the teams. If Haaland joined City lets say 5-10 years ago he would never score even remotely as many goals because City weren’t as dominant back then.
When Maradona played clubs were only allowed to have 3 foreign players in the line up. You would never see matches were one team had 80% or more in ball possession. Obviously you will score more goals if the ball constanly is in your opponents penalty area..
Messi fans point out that you can’t deny stats.. But at the same time, when they admit when seeing that football was more brutal back in the days, that is still something You can ignore... Cherry picking..
Messi is by far the best player in the last 12-15 years, but lately, like the last 3-4 years Mbappé is more dangerous, stronger, and faster dribler.. Age beginning to show.. Now it’s not about the goals anymore..😝 Maradona was like a Kung-fu movie.. Nothing could have been so perfect and fluint unless in a movie. That was thensensation youngot when watching Maradona in his prime. Indeed the highest level ever!!
