- Ever fight getting your hood to line up when you shut it? We are sharing what gets us great results and it’s fairly simple just one socket and ratchet should be all you need to make it happen too. Our test mule is a 1969 Firebird which is similar to all GM hood hinges from the 60’s and thru the 70’s

Thanks for this vid. Mechanic couldn't get my hood aligned after he had the motor out and I'll do it myself now with way more patience than he showed.
Right on!
Great info! You’ve just given me the incentive to try “again” to get my Chevelle’s hood to lay flat at the rear.
Really bugs me to have to make a trip around the front end to push down the rear corners after every opening and closure of the hood!
Lol that’s funny because that is what have done on my GTO for years. Until I oiled the hinges and it fixed it. Who would have thunk that’s all it needed. Good luck of course.
Thank you so much! My hoods been off for years and I couldn’t figure out why, but now it looks great!
Great to hear! love it when things work out.
Excellent video man, I am going to have to watch this a few dozen times when it comes time to reassemble my '67 Bird
Thanks buddy. BTW it’s only 75 and blue skies here today.
Great video brother absolutely right there's no other way to do it but just taking your time little by little
Yup and I can’t say it enough clean and lubricated Hinges is step one. I have had success with alignment issues being repaired by just lubing the hinges.
thanks for this video. im about to install a new hood on my 68
Welcome. Lubricating the hinges is the most important step. I should have said on the video I have had success with hood alignment by just lubing the hinges only and made no adjustments. It’s that important.
Awesome Video! Hopefully i will get to use your tips in a few weeks.
Good deal. Just remember most important part, lube the hinges good first.
Great video, the 67 firebird service manual also explains this method (wherever I put it), there are professional body shops that don't even know how to do this.
Yup see it all the time and it drives me crazy knowing how simple it could be to fix it.
@@VinylVillageGarage I haven't adjusted mine properly yet.
Great info! I'm doing the samething on my 70 GTO and the hood alignment is giving me fits
It can be adjusted to look great. Lubricate it first adjust the hinge height then adjust the hood front to back and done.
My 69 gtos hood does this a bit, thanks for the info!
Very welcome, the crazy part it seems when you move the hinge up the hood goes down so small movements and then test results.
@@VinylVillageGarage Right on!!!
My Camaro hood has been slightly raised on the passenger side rear corner for years. I haven't really thought about it because its not much but I think I will go fix it now.
Yup. Step one lubricate then minor adjustments until you get it.
Thanks so much
Anytime
Great info as usual Jon, enjoyed your video.. but i was wondering if you had any adjustment advice for when the wife becomes unhinged..?? I took your advice & tried lubricating her but that seem to upset her even more. j/k'in
That’s too funny, I might try these tips too just small adjustments and slow and steady wins the race.
Alright 👍
Welcome
Thanks! Did you ever make a video showing how to lower the center section of the hood, or could you at least share what the process would be? I have a 79 TA where the center section sits too high. Hinges are a little sticky and wobbly, can't seem to find any crease where it may have buckled/bent the hood. Stumped!
As a matter of fact… I have yet to do that video. Sorry about that, It will be the next one for that car so until then. How I bend hoods is really quite simple. This should be done before painting to Prevent damaged to the finish, I can be done after but there is a risk of paint damage. Step one identify what the issue is. Mine has the rear corners are to low. Yours sounds like the rear center section is too high. With that information i then remove the hood place it on a firm level surface, pretty side up of course then in your case I stack some blocks of wood or bricks under the rear corners to the point they are supporting the hood, basically a 4”x4” should be enough height. Then literally step on the “high” spot using body weight to pursued it into shape but ONLY step on the edge of the hood where the pinch welds is located you don’t want to dent the metal only reshape the frame then The trick is to know when to quit, because the only way to know when you get it is after you reinstall and check it might take several attempts to get it right. I suppose that is clear as mud I hope to get back to that car soon and do the video it makes much more sense seeing it. Good luck and and
Keep me posted on your progress
@@VinylVillageGarage Thanks a bunch for the quick response! No worries, I know how it feels to have several projects. Please let me know when you post that. I’m gonna try some adjustments first since my paint is pretty!
Will do!! Thanks for saving another bird and keeping it road worthy
@@nairblab4061 just finished the video on hood adjustment should be posted in the next day or so.
@@VinylVillageGarage Awesome! Thanks for keeping me posted
So how do you fix the high rise in the middle? Having the exact issue on a different gm car. At my wits end trying to figure out the solution
Well this might help with that exact issue. I
Straighten out this hood in this video.

@@VinylVillageGarage thanks a million for the link, managed to get my aftermarket hood pretty much spot on.
Fantastic news! Most panels need a little persuasion. Good job.
SO WHAT DO YA DO WHEN NOT ENOUGHT ADJUSTMEN TO LOWER HINGE AREA?
The hood still is to high? Will it push down like I did in the video?
@@VinylVillageGarage no it's still to high
