- In this DIY video I show you how I aligned my hood on my GM A-Body. This is something you can do with a little knowledge and moderate skills. These same principals will apply to all GM A-Body’s including GTO’s, 442’s, Chevelle’s and GSX’s.

Thanks for this video. Finally got my hood sitting flat again. I went from trashy to classy in 10 minutes.
So happy to hear you found the video helpful.

I was having difficulty adjusting the hood on a 68 Cutlass. The car had been in an accident before restoration. It actually had one 1968 hinge and one 1969 hinge (different designs). I bought another 68 hinge, but the rear still would not drop down on one side when closed. I discovered and sent them to Wilson's hinge rebuilding. They straiten damaged pieces and replace the pressed pivots along with additional work if needed. That was enough to get the hood back to specs and then could be aligned to close properly. Thanks for the videos Dan.
Your most welcome.
Great video! The hood on my '65 442 was sitting high on the rear passenger corner for years! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
If this doesn’t work for you, add a thin shim behind the front hinge bolt on the passenger side. It will move it over.
Really helpful video I have just been battling getting my bonnet to sit right on an xc falcon is Australia 🇦🇺 was a real headache
Glad I could help.

You mentioned rebuilding your steering column. Where did you get bearings? 1968 columns are an oddball.
I had a specific issue where my steering wheel was catching in one spot. I initially thought it was a bearing issue. However it turned out during testing of the steering shaft. The real issue was the inner bearing threaded retainer ring behind the steering wheel cog that was slightly to tight. I played with the tightness and was able to get rid of the catching issue. I also greased all exposed moving components. On my column it looks like inner bearing races are sealed. These types of races should be available by measuring the old races and checking google searches.
